Sadly after a little over a month of having Francis, and despite him being active, eating and growing, Francis sadly passed away. However this is not the end. Having Francis has opened our eyes to keeping stick insects and I’m sure in the future we’ll have another stick child. 🤞🏼❤️

It looks like an Indian walking insect, I got a other type that are pretty common I just trash the eggs cause they won’t survive too be trashed cause they won’t get the right temperature. You can use bark too have at the bottom. They live normally around an year but rarely up too 1,5 years. Remember that if it get nymphs(babies) you don’t want too have more than 6 stick insects in one cage other wise they start biting and killing each other. This will also happen if you house an very old(around 8-12) months old stick insect with an young one(around 1-4 months ) They shed 8 times in their life that means after the 8.th shed its their last and can be around 1-4 weeks befor they die, this come from my experience. You see if it are an indian stick insect when it gets older if it gets a reddish color on his front legs (it will only have that color on an little spot on each front leg) that means it can lay eggs! Hope you found this helpful, this is based mostly on my experience with an help of researching for a long time. If you have any questions reply too this coment and I will answer!

Notice: I do use exo terra for mine but it are a litte bigger, what you showed should be fine, have the plans be in it or you can give new leaves each day and take the old ones out if wanted. Just spray the plant very little twice each day but be careful if it are on the plant!

@nataliiadikunova3695
@nataliiadikunova3695 5 лет назад
So, I did some research, and found that it is most likely an Indian Stick Insect (just like you said). It will grow to be about 4 to 5 inches, so when it's an adult you will have to move it to a bigger tank (at least a 10 gallon), focusing more on height than floor space. They do come from tropical forests, so they need a humidity of 75-80%. You can feed her Bramble (blackberry), raspberry, privet, hawthorn, oak, rose, and ivy. Make sure they are fresh cut and get replaced when they are dried up/eaten. Any food must be free of insecticides and herbicides or it may kill it. They're also asexual, and she will start laying eggs soon. Sorry this comment is so long, but hope you found it at least a bit helpful :)

I’ve had Indian Sticks for years, mine eat ivy which is easier to get than privet or bramble, it may depend on what they are used to. I’ve not had any problem getting the ‘ova’ (eggs) to hatch they take about 4-5 months depending upon the temperature. My home made net cage is in a south facing window, I leave ova on the bottom of their net cage and they hatch, I love them when they’re small, they need delicate handling. I use cling film over the vases and poke the foliage through to stop the little ones drowning. Because they are watered I only feed them weekly as the foliage lasts. I spray them with water daily as this helps them when they climb up to shed they exoskeleton. It happens four times then they live about two years dropping hundreds of ova. When they’re fully grown the females have red under their front legs. I have had two males, they are much thinner than the mothers and are rare. Your net cage looks great perhaps you can find a piece of wood to go in the bottom so that you can use a jar to put foliage in with water, I use vinyl on top of the wood, it’s easy to clean. I can hear mine eating and dropping ova on a night. They must be one of the cheapest pets to keep they don’t need heat if you’ve got central heating. Hope you enjoy your new pet. 😊
@leopardgeckotalk
@leopardgeckotalk 5 лет назад
oo thats so cool :) yeah I try to leave handling to a minimum at the moment as shes so delicate. Basically whenever I give her new leaves, or like in this video I held her. Thank you :D

Our bearded dragon LOVES eating Vietnamese stick insects. LOVES. THEM. We started with 3 juveniles and ended up with LOTS of them. Too many to just keep. If the insects are eating privet that can be bad, but bramble is ok. Not too nutritious as a staple, but as a fun treat, they're great.

@EvieDiamond
@EvieDiamond 5 лет назад
I kept stick insects for a while. I'm 99% sure Francis is an Indian walking stick. My care advice is: - Use paper towel for substrate so you can keep an eye on poops and eggs - The small jar is good for now but as she gets bigger you will need to find something much taller, at least 3x her length - My stickies didn't like brambles, they much preferred ivy. But make sure it's dark green or else it can make them sick - The net cages are not good at all for humidity, so I recommend a tub with some mesh at the top or even an old glass viv if you have a spare one thats tall - You can spray them down to get humidity up and they will actually drink from the water droplets. Even at her size now you can spray - I recommend something like this: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stick-Insect-Leaf-Insect-Cage-NEW-Slimline-Plus-Twig-Pots-Keep-Leaves-Fresh-/401684920473 To hold your feeder plants in, keeps it fresher for longer and stops any accidental drowning

i studied entomology heavily back in my day and can tell thats a common stick insect and not a leaf insect cause most leaf insects in their nymph stage mimic ants.

yeah funnily enough we went to another reptile shop recently, they were selling these for £2-£3, whereas this shop that labelled them as leaf insects were selling them for £15-£17, crazy. Francis didnt look like a leaf insect to me as they tend to look a little more... leafy lol

Your stick insects antennas are broken off. This is probably because when an enclosure is too crowded, the stick insects will bite each other’s limbs off, including antennas. Do not worry he/she should be fine, this is quite common.

haha he escaped from his overrun cage, then hitchhiked his way out of being eaten by a house gecko, his story is quite something for a little stick insect haha

yeah i did once, I had a rogue locust in my cricket box but my geckos weren't interested. They're fine to feed I just find you dont get as many in a pack in comparison to crickets.
