Good show Brett. Looking forward to future episodes. Love hearing old stories on how people were first introduced to Video Games. I had a similar story over Mothers day weekend in 1982 (I was 6 at the time) where all my cousins were in a room playing Atari. I never heard of it at that time, or played a game until then. I remember my cousin left and went to Wal mart and bought Pac-Man and we all played it the rest of the afternoon (despite it not being like the Arcade). A couple of weeks later, my family was in Wal-Mart in the Electronics section and my brother and I were standing over where the cassette tapes were and they had a huge pile of 2600's. My brother convinced me to ask my parents to see if we could get an Atari, because being the youngest, he said I would have more "pull". I asked, and I didn't even have to beg. My mom looked at my dad and picked one up and put it in the shopping cart. (I was thinking, holy crap, that was easy!). Anyways, on our way out, we were passing by the Atari Kiosk display and for whatever reason, the glass front fell out (It didn't break), but my dad just reached in and grabbed Pac-Man. From that point forward, my life was ruined :). Still have my original 2600 back in the day. My parents played it just as much as we did (My dad would play Ms. Pac Man and have gamer rage...lol). But they picked up games for us without us asking. Space Invaders, Video Pinball were among the first titles we purchased.

My first memory was on a machine by Sega from 1972 called Sea Devil. It was a great electromechanical game where you shot manta rays with a harpoon gun. It was old by the time I got my hands on it (1976) and I had to have a foot stool (which they kept at arcades when I was a kid) to play it!

Great story....... Im younger, I didn't get into gaming until after the Crash. I didn't get my NES until maybe 1989. So I was introduced to the Atari 2600 in 84 when I was around 5 years old. The best part about getting introduced to Atari after the crash, is that I have great memories of being dragged along to garage sales with my mom and picking up boxes of Atari stuff at those garage sales for next to nothing. I was able to aquire a lot of Atari stuff really quick. I have been hooked ever since 👍

Good point about the systems that came out before Pong. It's easy to forget them because like you said, there was practically no press for them. Pong was the first home game I'd ever seen back in the day too. I was so happy to get Breakout because as cool Pong was, you had to have someone to play with which I rarely did. Good intro video. Nice choice of music. It's the theme song from Frogger if I'm not mistaken.

That’s awesome! That’s a great story and I’m sure a lot of people can relate to that. I mean who didn’t go to a relative’s house that was an Ali Baba’s cave? I remember being very happy every time I could go to some of my cousin’s place ‘cause I knew I would be able to play games I didn’t have. Great stuff can’t wait to hear the rest. Keep up the good work :)

An excellent debut episode! Always love hearing personal stories from those whom love and appreciate video games and their rich history! P.S. Admit it, you and your brother surpassed your cousins at Pong because they were sleep deprived and hopped up on fast food and candy. :P ;)

Better than my first episode for sure. My first video game was Punch Out (Mike Tyson, not the Mr. Dream Bullshit). Now my 5 year old demands I play it for him. I'm so rusty at it I can't beat Soda Popkinski.
