How do I know how much weight I can apply without hurting myself? is there any kind of general rule to it? because I think I might have started off too light since I haven't touched the gym for around 9 years.
David - did you use a bodybuilding program to get your bench up above 300 lbs? Or a strength program? Appreciate if you could share what you did, and how often you benched. Thanks
I've always had a bit of a hybrid approach. I like to hit bench twice a week. Heavy in the beginning of the week with an emphasis on free weights and in the 1-5 rep range. And then later in the week high reps 7-15 with shorter rest periods and more isolation exercises. If you go to gentechnutrition.com you can get a free program that I’ve written. I can’t say I’ve ever been to a planet fitness. But from what I know they have limited free weights. So anything on there that they don’t have equipment for just find a machine exercise that is similar and substitute it with. Hopefully that’s helpful!
