I feel like 2024 is the year of calm. It seems like all the creatives I watch are feeling this way and I am here for it. I feel like the “hustle” mentality is out and calm is in. Doing what you can is much more important than stressing yourself out always feeling like you never get anything done.

I agree! Although i have to admit I don’t think running a business will ever truly feel “calm” 😂❤ I’m just trying to be more mindful of my stress levels and breathe in tough times 😂🎀🤍 these vlogs sometimes make it seem smooth sailing and relaxing but it’s often quite stressful especially in the run up to a launch! lol 😂 so we are all about bringing the calm vibes here in 2024! 🧘‍♀️

I use the same diary and in my notes section at the end of each week I write down what progress I made towards my big goals. Some weeks I get an F because other things got in the way. Sometimes I do better. But it helps keep the big goals in mind while I work on the more immediate stuff.

Catherine you'd LOVE my Nanas collection. She was a theatre lady and adored anything dancing/singing/costumes. Her teddy collection is from 30+ years ago, so well looked after that when she passed, we all got to keep them. All were character teddies 😍 the ones I personally have from her is the Lion from Narnia and a dumbo. Very OG lol. Bless her she was such a sweet lady.

Catherine, I love to see you planning out your year. It reminds me a lot of when I worked in fashion. You might look into how clothing companies do their season lines. What you are doing is so similar to how they plan out a season. In that industry it's all based upon when the textiles can be produced and shipped from the mills (which I think runs parallel to when you have stickers or plushies outsourced), and then the clothing company works "backwards" from there, to start the sample making to see how a garment works in a particular fabric. Once that is set, they ship samples to market to see what sells, and then decide from that what to order for production yardage from the mills, and then they proceed tp produce the line to ship to stores. Frequently seasons will overlap so that when a company is in production, they are also working on market samples for the following season. I intuit you would benefit from researching the way dress manufacturers plan their seasons, as you might find some planning methods that could resonate with your process. HTH! ❤

@@KatnippStudios Actually they might start shopping fabrics a year in advance, if they design it themselves, but this is usually for the larger fashion lines (I'm talking haute couture!) Usually seasons (depending on how many lines they do a year) have a 10-week production time, which translates to 5 seasons a year. Why 5? because there is a cruise/holiday in winter time to catch the holiday buying spree, of course! This means the soonest they will start to work on a season is about 2.5 months ahead of the ship date. So you might want to plan your seasons from the web launch date and see if 2.5 months is a good time period for you to plan your line, It might be too long, but then you can adjust. Remember that what really controls the fashion houses' production schedule is when the mills ship the fabric to them. They can't start creating a line without any fabric to cut it from! That's not a constraint for you. But a similar concern for you might be around plushies. So plushies might be the product that controls your production schedule, since they rely upon manufacturing overseas. That's why you'll likely plan around the item that has the longest production time. If you work backwards from when you want to launch, using the production time for, say, a plushie, that's when you 'd want to start your production schedule for a given season.

Man oh man, I really love watching your studio diaries! I have my own small illustration/ screen printing business and I will put on your videos while I'm prepping product, sewing in labels, prepping packaging and (this is going to sound bizarre) it's kind of like I have a work buddy! I actually do a similar sort of planning at the beginning of my year and it makes me feel good to see others making their plans too. Always, always, ALWAYS look forward to the weekly vlog! And this one was incredibly helpful. For someone who has so many thoughts and ideas and "ooooh, let's do thaaaat!" to write down or think about and tell myself "eh, I'll remember it, it is a baller idea" and then... blank spaces and crickets take over once I get around to remembering to jot it down. But I definitely am happy to see what it is that you do for keeping track of what you have going on. I've started doing something similar, but it needs tweaking for me to be able to utilize it correctly for my daily schedule. Can't wait to see these new launches and what you come up with!

Thank you so much for sharing your production planning, absolutely love to see that because I'm such a planner-nerd. ;) I have the same issue with goals that are 'out of sight', so.... I've made a big visual paint plan that's front and center for me to see! My top art goals are on my phone to read everyday. By the way, I also love that you divided the collections into quarterly sections. I wonder, you have 21 things in the first quarter....!! *-* that's so much! if you don't make your own deadlines are you moving them over to the next quarter....?

If I struggle to do all the plans, like last year, sometimes i will cancel them and move them to the next year (Like I did last year) or I will move them to later in the year or the next quarter! Often I over plan but Im hoping this time these will be more Achievable!

Thanks for this video. I think perhaps my favourite types of videos are those with my favourite small business RU-vidrs (yes, that’s you!) showing off their planning and productivity, because that’s where two of my majors interests collide in a burst of happy rainbow bubbles. Throw in Notion and …steady on! I’m always looking for more new ways to integrate Notion. I’ve got a household running workspace, one for my children’s education (I home educate them), and one for work. Any chance you can do a tour of your to dos/daily Notion thingie? I keep running through different pages and haven’t found one that works yet. Perhaps I’m looking for the Holy Grail that will somehow link my home stuff with educational stuff and work stuff? 😅

You work so hard and it is admirable. But here is some older lady advice that you didn't ask for 😂. Please don't wait until you are burnt out before slowing down as that is too late. Consistent and steady is better than always rushing and pushing. Rest can also be productive.
