I can finally say, I'm going to be a genetic counselor!! For the past few years, I've been preparing for Masters's programs in Human Genetics & Genetic Counseling. WHAT’S EHLERS-DANLOS SYNDROME?
The Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes (EDS) are a group of more than 13 genetic connective tissue disorders that affect the joints and ligaments, blood vessels, gastrointestinal tract, and autonomic nervous system, among others. The most common type of EDS is hypermobile EDS (hEDS), which used to be known at type III. Some of the most common symptoms and co-morbidities of hEDS include chronic joint pain, joint instability and dislocations, dysautonomia, and GI tract dysmotility.

Congratulations!!! I am over the moon happy for you! I was officially diagnosed with Dysautonomia/POTS last fall at age 46, in addition to several other chronic illnesses. I also didn't get interviews at Stanford, JHU or Columbia and totally related to the ups and downs of this video. Congrats on Mt. Sinai! I'm glad this year worked out for both of us. Congratulations!!! I found you because I have EDS and was finally diagnosed at age 53. Well, this week, at age 54, I was diagnosed with ASD. And I hear that it is more common in people with EDS! We NEED you as a genetic counselor! We need more of genetic researchers too! Anyway, Congratulations!!!

Congratulations izzy!!!! I am so proud of you and everything youve accomplished! But, girl if you’re thinking UCLA - talk to me I've been through every part of that hospital- ICU, pediatrics, adult/general wing, CV ICU, genetics w/ eds, CMT4C etc! Honestly worst patient experience, after finding my genetic conditions disregarding them and not testing my spinal fluid... They sent in the psychiatrist and told me I had "hysteria" when in fact I had gullian barre syndrome. We need more genetic counselors like you!

I bet you end up in Boston, one of the top places for EDS research, treatments and management. I can see it now, the best experts are in Boston like Claire Francamano God Speed

Dr. Francomano is actually in Indiana now! The society opened a clinic at IU back at the end of 2019. I got really lucky to be one of her first patients in IN, and she really is the best!

That's amazing they opened a new clinic! She also helped me and talked to a surgeon when I was in hospital for diverticulitis, the guy who took the call was an intern who pretended to be the surgeon and didn't tell anyone she called or me for three days after the fact. That hospital almost killed me for real, I'm still scared to go back and that was almost a decade ago. God Bless EDS Doctors......and Geneticists! Much Love and God Bless

5:11 I wonder is this just for people trying to get grants or is this for everyone no matter if they just slap down cold hard cash that has to go through this process? If this is for everyone no matter what then what are your thoughts on how the higher education system should make differently to help more people get he education they need and deserve? When you mentioned you have EDS I couldn't help but laugh, because UCLA Health actually currently doesn't have any GCs or geneticists that see patients with EDS 😂 congrats!

That would been awesome if you could have gone to Vanderbilt, they’re hospital is good. I trust them with my health and well-being! But they didn’t give you a interview… that’s their loss! Your smart and very talented person! They’re missing out on what you could have brought to the table! Makes me wonder what the heck was wrong with them?
