I don’t get how people can play blindfold. I tried simply following someone else’s game while blindfolded and I lost track after like 4 moves so I can’t even comprehend how some people can beat multiple strong players in a blindfold simul

@@justinbieber8028 @Justin Bieber My rating in blitz is between 2000-2100 and I play blindfolded chess sometimes. What I would say about playing blindfolded chess is that in my opinion you unlock that skill when you surprass a decent rating and once you improve your visualising skills. But I have to admit that even when I play against significantly lower rated players than me when the position gets complicated I have to concentrade and pay lots of affort to trying to keep track of the pieces, which is really challenging. Also, there are many factors that affect your blindfolded gameplay, of course. And yes playing blindfolded simul is probably exteremly hard (I haven't tried it yet) but it's not impossible for a GM.
@wsemenske
@wsemenske 2 года назад
Blindfold chess gets easier when you can tell what opening is taking place and then once it gets to the middle game, there's less to keep track of. It's partly why playing a beginner can be weird because they just play weird moves

I remember both your parents very well from their time as active chess players. Your Mum was actually one of the best lady players in the world at the time. Your Dad I remember mostly for the Bellon Gambit. I remember spending hundreds of hours analysing it when I was younger, particularly in the critical Nf7 line, and the f4 variation that Kasparov recommended against it. It really is a fascinating idea, and gives rise to razor sharp, rich chess.

Pretty wild to see that two GMs playing each other in the 70s could end up in a +2 position after 7 moves. This was before engines had dissected openings to death, so pretty logical, but still pretty crazy.

@@nobody27019 could you expand ? . Was this about him hating engines ?
@26183
@26183 2 года назад
@@VARMOT123 basically, fischer said engines will kill the soul of chess, which was, according to him, the creativity that human players introduce into the game. With engines, top level play is almost always some pre-prepared engine line that almost inevitably leads to draws.
@nobody27019
@nobody27019 2 года назад
@@VARMOT123 And to add to what Jeffrey said, Fischer's view on engines is why he created Chess960, also known as "Fischer random". Super GMs can memorize thousands of lines of play, but all those lines apply to only one of 960 starting positions. In Chess960 the number of possible lines explodes to millions and tens of millions. No one could ever hope to memorize all of them. There was also this game between Alexander Grischuk vs Magnus Carlsen at Chess960, in which Carlsen basically lost in 7 moves. If the World champion of Chess960 was accepted as the main World chess champion, maybe Carlsen wouldn't be the WC anymore. Maybe he relies on memory more than anything else, and Fischer was right. True that he is a beast at endgames too, but a little Google search shows results of Carlsen getting crushed hard at Chess960.
