My Hero Academia 7x7 Reaction and Commentary: Inflation 

I appreciate how in depth yougo with Toga's character and themes in discussion, Toga has always been my favorite character and I get kinda disappointed in other people either just going for "she's crazy" or like just kinda jokes and lip service to her and Ururaka, so thanks for actually like talking about the themes that Toga presents in a serious and meaningful way

As to why Erasure doesn't affect Shigaraki's hand growth, it's because Erasure can only totally prevent Emitter (shoots out stuff) or Transformation (become something else)-type quirks. Mutant-type quirks that are innate abilities (like tentacle guy) are largely unaffected since it's more like they're just using an extension of their natural body. Shigaraki said so himself that the hand growth is treated as a natural phenomenon, just like hair or nail growth.

Toga's been rejected for her thoughts and feelings her entire life. She wants to be normal, but her definition of normal oppose those of society meaning that she is outcasted and rejected just for being who she is and her love of blood and hurting others to show affection. The League never rejected Toga for who she was and even accepted her "normal". Toga's been reaching out to try and understand, talking to the people she likes and wants to date or be friends with like Ochako and Deku and gets rejected again and again when she is only being genuine self, and it keeps hurting her. After getting rejected by Deku - who said the same thing she's heard her whole life - she's lost hope on bonding with the average person and realized the only one's who could ever care about her are villains and outcasts. And Tomura's promised to create a world for the League without heroes and people who reject her way of life.

Toga's so cute :( she deserves the best!! Uraraka and Deku shouldn't be so mean to her. so whaat if she kills a few NPCs??? no but jokes aside (only that last NPC part was a joke, tho) I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU!! my take is that Deku and Uraraka COULD change her, like, her entire trauma is centred around being ignored and treated like trash for being different than others, which has caused her to act out and not know how to be "normal". in my opinion, if not for the Shigaraki threat, the best move here would be for Midoriya, Tsu and Uraraka (all people Toga is in love with) tried to talk it out with her. Deku can't be here? ok, then he should say "I don't know if I love you yet! lets talk! after the war is over!! please, talk this out with Uraraka and Tsu in the meantime!!". I feel like that would of really gave her hope and have made her more willing to talk things out just like she wanted to last arc when Uraraka completely rejected her. I feel like if they indulged her, she would be so willing to learn to be herself HEALTHILY, in the way her support system failed her back in civilian life. HEROE'S SAVE PEOPLE, RIGHT!? MARRIAGE IS A VIABLE WAY TO SAVE SOMEONE!!! one of these sweet boys or girls on the battlefield, marry Toga and treat her with absolute love!! love solves everything.

Can't wait for you to see more of Toya's story and give thoughts. He's more of a wild card than people believe. His speech he delivered and keeping his identity shielded for so long, then so publicly displayed in Dabi's Dance, was all his own ploy. The League became something to him, more than just a means to an end, but a catalyst none the less he always intended to use to keep spreading his flames. His ideals spread wildly between similar avenues of others- Shigaraki, Stain, All for One- yet if asked he always guides away to a parallel different angle and not the same. I find it interesting to hear what he says, as a player in the villain field who keeps his cards close, until he plays them with devastating results.

The Doctor theorized that one day people wouldn't be able to physically/mentally handle their own Quirk. All For One noted that giving someone more than one Quirk usually resulted in brain damage. The Nomu were created by attempting to bond more than one quirk to a person, with monstrous results. Shigaraki's surgery was to create a perfect body that can naturally adapt to anything, circumventing the physical/mental blowback of multiple quirks. Can't use his quirks? Weaponize his body at will.

Alright we got the separate layered battles of the 2nd war. Seeing the team layouts was worth it combing the kids and heroes at various different locations. A great deal of matchups make perfect sense narratively and physically. But one is neither. All-Might here’s a fun fact to you. Iida is WEAK to fire and is prone to overheating! And you put him on the Dabi field team?! At least the sidekick Kido is weak to fire with a long streak of redirecting fire to be with Endeavor all these years! (But having a speedster that rivals Gran Torino is good IF he can deal with the fire) AFS body growth is just SO disturbing. This is how Garaki decided to STABILIZE the quirk stockpile so he could more effortlessly combine quirks without it causing pain to the AFO holder. So based on that we can assume AFO isn’t always the most comfortable when he combines quirks so much it expands his body with the arm made out of arms. We might be able to get some actual enlightening info on how AFO has functioned all these years. And with the ability to use the still completely unknown amount of quirks, the INSTANT quirks reenter the picture he can completely remake the battlefield in anyway he wants. AFO at max potential against Nana made a LANDSCAPE of quirks. And he’s setting the stage to be able to make it look like child’s play. Mirko might have a stockpile of new robot limbs (this girl is ACTUALLY planning to lose limbs that many times and KEEP GOING. ) but her bruising abilities just got a LOT less useful. And why WOULDN’T 2 of the most stubborn characters have personality conflict. Bakugo only respects Aizawa and Jeanist here. So GREAT time for Bakugo to Bakugo. Monoma can’t release erasure now he’s officially stuck in for as much time as he can manage. Because the next BLINK can be all they need to lose. And Jeanist says we can win without OFA! (BJ…this is the 2nd time you’ve devalued Deku as nothing but his power. In season 6 he said AFS has to have the will to overpower 8 collective willpowers…while not counting the 9th. Methinks he’s not a kid kind of person. Good thing Deku isn’t still TEETERING on the awful apathetic emotional space! Not like he just barely recovered.) And now we got the Toga field. The Nomu REALLY like exploding their bodies with shattered spiked bones it seems. Woman (yes that is what Garaki named her) from Season 6 exploded her shins, the Nomu from the jailbreak that killed Briareos exploded its gut, and now this thing! Throw in Moonfish keeping the heroes away from Toga and now it’s just Toga and her 2 loves. (I’m going to go on a limb and say Bakugo gave Present Mic a narration because that STRAIGHT UP sounds like Bakugo told Present Mic to call him a nerd. GREAT continued progress) When she confesses to Deku he has very amusing response as he panics. So at the school festival after the “Hero Too” concert, he spends the day with Eri and Mirio sure, but unseen in that episode he spends a great deal with Uraraka where they spend the day doing EXACTLY what he just described what it meant being in a relationship. Uraraka mildly panics realizing what that meant and now Tsu needs him OUT of there. Toga now that she has her answer that she is NOT the same as Uraraka stabs her and she’s trying to hallow out the love she once felt for them. The obsession is still there. And it’s plausible that Toga can still use Uraraka’s quirk. (God forbid she realizes how strong it REALLY is if she DOES get it) Deku activates Fa Jin in just 3 kicks, so his Faux 100 is easier to charge. More proof Deku is at his higher stockpile level. His Faux 100 as of this point is Mach 22.5 at a 75% level (Deku’s 100% would be 75% of All-Might’s Mach 30 level in season 1) and with the gloves that work at 20% air flow, he’s stabilizing at Mach 4.5. (20% of his 75% level) Which IS fast but when every second counts based on a BLINK, the 2nd has to check with him and see if he’s considering the stupid things. 1 being injuring himself at 100% to speed things up. His bone damage is a LOT less now so it’s not something COMPLETELY out of the question. Good thing Deku is hoping to avoid his bloody mess decisions against AFS last time. And then there’s the interesting one. Is he going to use the 2nd quirk? Deku says he wants to, and the 2nd says ABSOLUTELY NOT. That’s a final gambit. So we don’t have an answer for what it is YET but we know the 2nd considers it as stupid as blowing your skin off right before the final battle. Dabi honestly just daydreams about how Endeavor isn’t looking at him. Literally WHILE melting. And Shoto uses the weird stabilizing flame of sorts from both sides in different colors. In the manga, that shot was 2 hands of frost. He CAN use his quirk both sides however he chooses. And as I’ve said in the past because how DNA works, the ice quirk and fire quirk can’t possibly be held to any one side of the body. And he seems to have finally gotten to the point he can do it with fire and ice now at balanced levels. And he has to focus on cooling himself as Dabi literally burns the city down and is melting away. Next time, we find out what really made Dabi.

Deku definitely RIZZING Toga with his RIZZ for all quirk lmao

Mineta X Toga was not a ship I was expecting to see, but your argument is pretty solid. Both envy those around them, Mineta wanting to be cool like them and Toga wanting to become them. Both have their worst traits brought forward by their personal Lust, and deciding they're going to be themselves even if the world's going to call them horrible people for it. I could see them being good friends in an alternate reality, but neither character is the other's type, so any ship would have to occur after some serious personal growth.

I think you're absolutely right when you say Toga needs a foil to realize the way she's going about love is...misguided to say the least. It's also interesting to see that her personality is basically Quirks influencing personalities to its logical extreme. She has just this innate desire to drink blood and for whatever reason that crossed wires with affection. It'll be interesting to see where this goes. Thanks as always for your insights, I always look forward to these for the broader commentary you give.

Togas desiers in the present are definatley bad because they have driven her to hurt and kill others. She definatley needed more help mentaly but at this point its too late. We don't really know if there even could be a healthy way for her to express her lust for blood especially by the present. Your toughts are your own as long as you don't act on or voice them because then you can't really be surprised if people see you in a worse light. Of course the fandom has somehow managed to fail to understand that Toga killing and borderline raping people for their blood isn't meant to be endearing or cute hell many LGBTQ individuals identify with her by equating their sexuality or identity with a uncontrollable lust to murder and rape people witch would mean that their parents would have every right to disown them since by their own logic they would be doomed to become criminals. Of course this fandom isn't exactly known for its amazing and not at all bad takes because clearly someone like Kotaro who at worst slapped his son once and pretty much instantly felt regrett and remorse for it is clearly irredemable while someone like Tomura who is a serial killer is just a inocent victim because he got slapped once. The objectivly awful take of abuse being worse than murder because if you abuse people then you can't be redeemd but if you kill people and have a mildly sad backstory then you can do no wrong.
