14 years ago I was diagnosed with AIDS.I was 24 and I’ll be 39 next month.If I could change one thing.It would be the time in which I found out.Had I found out earlier I could’ve avoided some of my sickness.2 months after my diagnosis I went undetectable and I remained undetectable since.My CD4 is great also! I don’t have any lingering complications.I just want to encourage people to get tested PLEASE!!! Think about it this way.Go get tested and if you are positive you don’t have to tell anyone.Take your meds and keep living.It’s just that simple.Please don’t wait like I did!! Early intervention will make a world of a difference...My best wishes to all of you out there🙏🏽

I have a bestfriend with Hiv we randomly went to get tested going inside laughing joking i went first came out quick then it was his turn n i noticed he was inside a little bit longer than i was. Once he came out he didn’t say anything he walked pass me and was like “come on”while crying. We got to the car n sat for a minute while he cried about it. I made sure i reassured him that i still loved him and that i don’t look at him any different. Shyt broke my heart becux there was nothing i could do. Still til this day i get emotional about it because as a friend i wish i could have protected him from it.

I’ve only shared this with a few other people but your story time took be back to a life changing moment in my journey with HIV and AIDS. My story occurred before there was even a name given to HIV / AIDS, so this is back in the early 1980s. Even as this disease began to be heard about it was considered to be something that only happened in the White Gay community (not true but that was what the media was saying). I had a very close friend who got sick on occasion but nobody ever really thought about it much. People just get sick, so we would say. But one day I got a call at home (this before cell phones remember) from a local hospital that a friend of mine wanted me to come visit. I had to call the hospital first to get the information. That was just so odd, I thought. Why would a hospital be calling me? And who was this person who had them call me? When I called the hospital I was told that the person who had been admitted was dying and that they didn’t want anyone to know. But they we asked to call me so that I could come visit. I was shocked. Who could this be? And then they told me who it was. I just couldn’t believe that my friend could be dying, and from what? They didn’t know. So I went to the hospital - I didn’t call anyone else since I was told that my friend didn’t want anyone else informed. When I got to the hospital I was escorted to the nursing station, because this person was in isolation. The nurses then instructed me that I had to wear protective clothing - mask, gloves, gowns, shoe covers, hair cover, no exposed skin was to touch the patient. I was getting scared out of my mind. What kind of disease would require this kind of precautions. As I was led to the room I was repeatedly warned not to touch the patient. At the door were all types of warning signs and caution labels. I didn’t want to go into the room. I was afraid of what I would see and might catch. I entered the room with all of this clothing on me. And I saw my friend lying in the bed attached to all sorts of machines and tubes. He couldn’t speak because he had a ventilator tube in his throat. When he saw me his eyes became real wide. And I know he could see that I was frightened and hesitant. He motioned with his hand slightly for me to come over. I did very slowly. When I got close he just started crying. I started crying. He was moaning through the ventilator tube, grunting strange sounds. And then it happened. He motioned for me to hold his hand. I didn’t want to touch my friend, even with gloves on and this protective clothing. But a voice said inside, just hold his hand. I reached out to touch him. The latex glove made the touch feel unreal. And I didn’t know why then but I knew I had to touch him without a glove. I took off the glove and held his hand. I took off the mask and kissed his face. We just continued to cry and do this. Finally I understood him to say, I wanted to say goodbye. I told him I loved him. And I left the room. When I got back to the nurses station they saw that I wasn’t wearing the gloves, and they said, “You didn’t take those gloves off? You’re gonna catch whatever that faggot has.” My friend died about 9 hours later. For the rest of the week I couldn’t sleep or eat. When his family came to claim his body they didn’t want to tell anyone he was gay, or why and how he died. They wouldn’t let me come to his “funeral”. Awful experience, awful memory. A few years later we learned that the disease that claimed my friend would be called AIDS. As a result of all that my life had changed, and unfortunately began a long series of saying goodbyes to many different friends and acquaintances. Compared to those times today is so much different - there are drugs now that help people cope with HIV. But I’m ever glad that I’m HIV negative, and would hope that younger folks take good care of themselves to avoid exposing themselves on purpose to becoming HIV positive. Thanks for sharing your story, Tripp. Hope my story helps someone, too.

Stay positive, take good care of yourself, and stay on top of it (taking meds on time, routine doctor visits) rather than it staying on top of you -- and you'll be aite. 👌🏽😎 That's for ANYONE that's positive. Glad we are now living in an age and time where it's considered a "chronic disease" (like Diabetes) rather than a death sentence, like it USED to be. 🙏🏽

I am hiv+. Unfortunately many in the gay community are. I am not ashamed of my status. I am upfront about my status. I tell people my status so they can make the decision for themselves. I have been positive for 15 years. I have been undetectable for the last 10 years. My doctor says that my life expectancy is that of a normal male. I can see why people don't tell their status because there is still a stigma surrounding hiv. With the meds that are currently available it is very easy to control.

WHAT DOES UNDETECTABLE MEAN, WHEN YOU GO BACK TO THE DOCTOR IT SHOWS YOU ARE NEGATIVE? THERE ARE ZERO STRAIN OF IT IN YOUR BLOOD AND IMMUNE SYSTEM? I KEEP HEARING THIS UNDETECTABLE AND I GET CONFUSE BECAUSE IF YOU ARE HIV POSITIVE, TESTED MULTIPLE TIMES, YOU ARE STILL HIV POSITIVE AND WILL STILL END UP DYING FROM COMPLICATIONS OF AIDS.
@tasiawood
@tasiawood 4 года назад
@@applecandyfolks7979 This is why people need to do their own research. if you're undetectable, your still positive its just that there are little traces of the disease in your body because of the medication suppressing it. Taking an HIV test will not pick up HIV but it does not mean you are cured completely. The medication works well enough to where HIV cannot be detected by testing. But let someone stop taking the medication for a long time. Months at a time or even a clean year, The body will slowly come out of being undetectable and you will have an open disease that anybody can catch. Id probably say it will take up to 3 years to catch aids but up to 5 years to probably die from complications if you stopped taking meds completely.
@applecandyfolks7979
@applecandyfolks7979 4 года назад
@@tasiawood had they quarantine victims from intentional making of it this problem would not have occured. I do not like when people say they are undetectable as they use it as a greenlight to not disclose their status to people hence wilfully infecting them. I think medication or not a person will eventually die from complications of aids as your immune system and biology was never built to be fighting an aggressive virus that impacts your entire system

I was an AIDS volunteer in the early 80's when men were dying in a matter of days, and the media was labeling AIDS "THE DESIGNER" disease because Halston and Willi Smith died of AIDS. I volunteered at the Gays Men Health crisis center. I volunteered because a church member of mine contracted AIDS. He asked me to help people who couldn't help themselves. I volunteered for 6 years. Those patients educated me not just on sex, but on life. Those young men told me their fears, regrets, mistakes, their loves, and their lessons in life. Those jewels those men gave me have kept me healthy, wealthy and wise. Now sadly I am helping women with HIV because of their deceptive relationship with men. Now the wisdom imparted in me by those men, I now share with these women. I thank GOD for those 6 men who in their dying days, they cared enough about me to help me live. I can definitely identify Tripp for sharing your truth. I enjoyed this story.

Alberto Daniel Kerlegand Martinez God bless you! I don’t have HIV but I have sickle cell and there’s a stigma attached to us about our disease because people are simply uneducated, including medical providers. In fact it’s so bad that a lot of us won’t even go to get treatment because of bias and judgments receive that when we finally do it’s too late and we end up dead. I never used to tell people I had this disease because I afraid they wouldn’t like me, judge me ect. I had a guy in high school stop talking to me because he thought he could “catch it” 😒Little did the ignorant uneducated, bastard know this condition is hereditary and there’s no way anyone can “catch or develop” SCD. You are born with it because your parents either have the full disease or they carry the trait. Anyway I said all that to say continue to be transparent and open about your condition, maybe start a YT Channel, get out there and advocate because that’s the only way we’re going break these stigmas and receive the treatment we deserve without bias or judgement. Each one, teach one. I wish you well on your new journey. Sending you tons of love, light and positive energy!! I hope you really start a Channel or a blog....something so we can follow your journey or you can just update me here in the comment section!! There's a lot going around out here. I think fear kept me safe for a long time. I was convinced everybody was positive and It kept me from having sex. My 1st BF had AIDS and didn't tell me. Luckily we had protected sex all the time so I was not affected by him but it scared the shit outta me! I never went through the "hoe" phase of life a lot of people go through out of fear. With time, age and wisdom i've learned enough to not be so afraid. That it's up to me to protect my health. I've even knowingly dated an HIV positive man. Now I have to figure out how to date. I think i'm on the short bus when it comes to dating, lmao. I've been alone for so long I sometime wonder if I'll even know how to be with someone. Sometimes you can't win for losing, lol.

Very first time I used a hookup app the guy was HIV+. What messed me up was that he was a few years younger than me and was gonna have to live the majority of his life with it. Luckily he was a good guy and told me he +ve and talked with me about gays / sex etc. Been terrified of random hook-ups ever since. Plus there was a gay serial killer in my city so I never took any chances.

I know the feeling. I have lost a few friends from it which breaks my heart. As we speak I have been celibate for almost 10 years in 2020. I just don't even try any longer. I am really sorry @TripperPlugged. I worked in a hospital in my teen years and that really shocked me mentally and scared my soul off. But I feel bad now that when someone confesses they have interest in me I just don't know how to accept or receive it. Just because I don't have the energy to sleep with one eyes opened. Thank the universe for prEp, medication and science. The world is changing and I hope they derive a cure real soon.

I am very confident and comfortable with who I am bro; resolved that many years ago. You just usually affirm me in ways, which make me smile actually. Yes, I agree, deliberate effort should be made on the behalf of us both, to remain in contact. Like you, I consider and value calling one a friend. A little about me, I'm one of your older cuzzos. Age, experience, and all that comes along with life has taught me to recognize real truth. You give your truth, I recognize it and I keep listening. Like I said before, I'm an older cuzzo, 58 y/o, disabled, wheelchair bound, but one who seeks and values his independence. I celebrate life daily man, because there have many close calls for me, but HE has been faithful. I keep myself busy, as a professional therapist, which I thoroughly enjoy. I really have no complaints about life or my life situation. I like yourself, hold on to all possibilities and hopes, knowing everything will come together for me. In the meantime, I don't sit twiddling thumbs, as if life is not to be valued and pursued, in the midst of my life situations. I consider myself like you, a good guy, with a history similar to yours, not growing up with a lot, but never allowing those limitations and/or barriers to be a restraint to me. Pursued and gained precious nuggets through undergraduate, graduate studies, and life itself. That was the avenue by which God helped me to be a blessing in helping get my family into better situations. So, I understand a lot of what you share with the family. Again, let's do stay in touch, both here on your RU-vid stomping ground, and perhaps on my favorable ground, when I establish one, other than texting. Sharing with you in here, a part of me, my thoughts and my heart, will continue if you give me the space. Keep doing what you do bro with conviction and realness; stay focused, stay on your grind, many need that from you, at this point of their lives. I value and appreciate good people like yourself. I'm sure you know the motives of those who reach out to you. I encourage you, not because I need to, to continue taking the slow route to some things, and enjoy the scenery as you journey. You're going to draw/attract the one for you, to you lil bro. In the meantime, continue enjoying this part of your journey, because each day, though you may not see it, new and good things are being added and attached to your soul and spirit, in preparation for all of what and who is to come. Know this, cause we both hold on to our spiritual roots too, you haven't seen anything yet, the best of what God has for you, has not even manifested itself into your life yet man. Enjoy bro, enjoy, it will all find it's way to you, without you becoming "thirsty," and going for it. Not so much the tangible, but the intangibles, the things and people and love, will find their way to you; stay alert though. You think you've been blessed now, which you obviously have, raise your level of expectancy lil bro. As for me, no backdoor, slick approaches about me lil bro, like you, I'm as real and straight up as they come. I have no need to prove that to anyone, unless they choose to set themselves into my sphere of influence, and experience me firsthand, allowing me to do the same with them, as we exchange and build one another up, regardless. Thanks for responding, you didn't have to do that. I hope we hold each other accountable to our word, keep connecting, staying in contact. Allow me to insert, I understand you're a busy brother; don't need the clingy/attention seeking, unhealthy friendship, but one which will add value to the both of us. I'm open to authenticity though. Know I'm praying for you regularly lil bro (hope you're not bothered by me referring to you as such), at least I did not call you "Unc," ...lol. Looking forward to our next exchange. Stay safe man. Love you lil bro. My bad, if this post might be a bit long for ya, with a few errors, I'll work on that...lol.

Wow..I'm glad I heard this. I wish I knew you personally. You are a good hearted man. When you said you deserve to be loved and someone loves you I cried. A couple months ago I was feeling down because I thought nobody loved me and I didn't matter. I was in a dark scary place all alone. I was contemplating taking my life and I prayed and cried so many days & nights. I was planning on doing it around my bday. On my bday I was just going to go see my dad. I had nothing planned but my best friend & sister did and they put a get together for me over my dads house with a cake. I love cake and I was also down because I missed my mom so much. She passed away in 2011. Every since she left this earth my family slowly unraveled and things wasn't the same since my mom was here. That small get together with some neighbors really made me feel so much better. It really made my day and week so much brighter. I had so many people sending me messages on fbook that touched my heart. It made a huge difference. I was on fbook maybe a week or two and came across this lady talking about God and singing. I told her how I was feeling and she stopped and starting praying for me. She said my name and was praying so hard for me. I was crying and listening to everything she said. I closed my eyes and just prayed that God would help me out of what I was thinking of doing. I'm so glad I made it out of that storm alive. I have a different mind set and see things very differently now. I thank God for saving my life and changing my thoughts. Everyone deserves love is right. Everyone is special and deserves respect as well. I have a couple of gay friends living with HIV and they take their meds everyday and look like a normal healthy person. I call them my brothers and they are so nice & the sweetest people. I forget that their positive until they mention it. I haven't taken a test yet and been putting it off for awhile now. I have a appt coming up soon and I will mention it to them and take one. Knowing is half the battle. This story touched my heart and made me think. You clarified some things for me. Cousin Tripp, What a heavy subject! Glad you're using your platform to discuss this important subject! I was in a relationship with a man over 20 years ago when the medications are not like they are today. I knew he was HIV Positive, when we were dating, but I really fell for this dude. Anyways, when he got AIDS, I took care of him in the house until the last week of his life. My story, like the movie Philadelphia, is something I wish would go away. But at the same time, they are a lesson for everybody. There is a reason for condoms besides pregnancy! Sexually Transmitted Diseases. Nowadays, HIV is a chronic medical condition. When I have sex, it's just the same as assuming somebody has the Coronavirus, I always wear a mask, and always use condoms! Love from Orlando

There is still a stigma but it still is a disease until we finally find a cure for it some people think there is all ready a cure but the government is hiding it from people I don't know about all that but I hope we find a cure soon.

Education and knowledge is key. Everyone always have a bad reaction when they hear HIV which is treatable these days and more manageable than high blood pressure and diabetes; however, people need to be more honesty about their health status. Since we are in a jackd and Grindr age people are more concerned about their next hookup session.

@@teddygianni1371 I completely agree with you Teddy; however, statistics have shown more people had passed due to Hypertension/Cardiovascular disease than HIV.

@@Cephus508 I'm not completely sure that's correct or in the some vain but I could be wrong. I just think statements like "HIV is more manageable than high blood pressure and diabetes" does a disservice to young people who think "oh it's nothing" not realizing the level of sickness it takes before getting to undetectable. IF you get to undetectable. Not to mention you can't give someone high blood pressure.
