There are so many exceptions to all of this. Such as, if your husband has cheated, it's really not healthy to spend your time trying to empathize with them. I know this is not the intent, but the end result of this video is the wife takes on the responsibility for figuring out my husband's problem for doing the emotional labor of helping him figure out what's going on with him. All while ignoring that he's leaving the mental and physical labor for the wife, so she's at that point willingly taking on the loan for both of them, while doing his emotional work for him as well. I get that in a previously healthy relationship this is good advice, but if this is the pattern from the beginning, this advice is codependent.

Hi Rachel, thank you for sharing these videos. They have been helping me to understanding my ex partner who has been depressive and had suicidal ideations. Are there any books you will recommend that can help me to take on a supportive role?

His anger has just yesterday caused a loss of a large circle of long time friends, which I am mourning. He verbally assaulted a friend who was rude, and shared to incident through texts to other friends. This was a time when anger was not better than his depression.

Most of the times it feels like he's angry with me. He says things that hurt me so much. What can I do? I really love him, walking away is not an option for me. Help me!!

Ironically im the husband in the situation and my birthday is on the 2nd of September😂 good video tho it really helped
