RSD is hot, hot, hot this April - very nice video Steve - like some of choices, very interesting - hope you get them.

Nice little quip on video # 10,983 ! LoL !!! 😵‍💫I love your Miles " On The Corner" complete CD box.. watching now.. Marble Phrogg gonna listen to in a bit. ✌
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147
Yeah, gets a little much so I might as well make fun of it lol. I have all the Miles CD box sets JT, they are the pride and joy of my collection. They are one of the only things to survive the flood unscathed, they were very high up and that book case did not collapse like most did

Yes, seek out that OG and look for used albums in the store. A lot of times, stores will put out a lot of really special albums for RSD. I got an RL Houses of the Holy for $10.
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147
Wow, what a score Michael. My guy will do that too. The first rush just wants RSD, by the time I come I take my time looking in the bins for something interesting. I may hit a few stores if I feel up to it

Great picks Steve. I support some of those for sure. The Miles on the corner sessions would be one I'm interested in. I bought the other RSD editions but I already know I won't play it much. I am at capacity! But you're nailing it on the head. Why by colored editions for $30-35 when you can find an original for the same price or less. I go into this with the same thought process. Regardless I hope you find what you're looking for though
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147
Hi Dom. Though I don’t have the same excitement I use to have for that day there are still some great gems. I do hope most still find it to be a exciting day to add some treasures to their collection. At least now it seems easier to find the albums afterwards

Steve, excellent breakdown of RSD. I go in thinking no firsts. Right now I’ve got two back on my list. This is my list. Chet, Roy Ayers, both Lacuna Coil albums, Poe, and In This Moment. I think that Roy Ayers - Stoned Soul Picnic or whatever the title, is one I need to use your formula for. Can I get an original cheaper? Good video. Peace ☮️ Namaste 🙏 the Zonkman
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147
Crazy when you look at some of these albums Steve. I crossed a ton off my list because it was cheaper to get a good copy of discogs. I like the rare stuff, wish there was more of it. Great list, even some jazz, you jazz head

I'd be happy with Miles and Pearl Jam. You made so many good points. I find I "need" less and less and to your point. Just buy the OG, it's cheaper. I will keep my eyes open for Marble Phrogg.
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147
Mark, 10 years ago they would find me a box to put my RSD titles in lol. Those days are done. Pearl Jam is your band so that would be exciting to get. Temptation will still rear its ugly head and convince me to get a few more nonessential albums lol. I am weak

Hi Steve, I have a love/ hate relationship with RSD. I love the camaraderie of the queue outside the store, But I know I have purchases from previous RSD's that I probably wouldn't have bought on any other day. I think the key to successful day is research and planning. I tend to go for the more unusual items. Unfortunately Phrogg is not on the UK list, but Flash and the Dynamics is too of my list. Cheers Mike
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147
Mike, couldn’t agree more with you. So many things I bought, it was exciting, adrenaline is pumping , wallet is open and then comes the hanger over the next day as you spin it once and shove it away for eternity lol. I’m trying to be better and I have cut back. I wonderful used OG generally will bring me more happiness. I hope you also find that Flash, I really loved the groove that the music had.

At the moment i have 21 items on my list. I know i won't be able to buy them all. I'll buy what i can and leave the rest. BUT you got me confused Steve, i thought it was our responsibility as record buyers to spend obscene amount of money on records without thinking. Thinking after all, is dangerous, you might realize, you don't actually need to buy that record right now. Later is just as good. NO sorry that was out of line. NOW is the operative word on RSD. And i'm ready!! Pasi
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147
Lol Pasi. Believe me, I was one of those who spent obscene amounts of money and had to sneak the records in the back door. A few times they found a box for me to load my records. Lol. I had an issue, still do but I am working on self control Pasi. Call me a work in progress!

I remember when you’d be the only guy in a lawn chair outside the store on RSD. 😂 This is an interesting video. It has a little bit of a preaching to the choir to it. I’m sure you are doing what many record collectors do for RSD, sales, and buying in volume. Seeing your thought process spoken out loud is fascinating. You’re speaking the words that go through my head when I’m out buying records or even ordering online. You bring up many of the points that many collectors ponder. Great video, thanks for letting us step into your head.
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147
Lol Eric. Yeah that was a fun 4 week opening. I am not responsible for anybody who steps into my head and the actions that they do afterwards. I use to not research RSD, but also knew nothing about discogs. I would just go in and scoop up records. Now I do spend time on this and buy a whole lot less Eric. An OG of some hard to find album gives me greater pleasure

I haven't even looked at the list yet! On the other have only been to a record store on RSD once, by accident. I didn't even realize it was RSD! I picked up a bunch after the fact, but I have never bought anything where the originals are easily available.
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147

Make some noise!!!! I've watched them all & counted Mike & you are absolutely correct that it was video 10,083! My RSD picks if I'm lucky enough is....Sparks: A Woofer In Tweeters Clothing & S/T, The Verlaines: Bird Dog, Jonathon Richman: Jonathon Goes Country, Half Japanese: The Band That Would Be King, Jazz Butcher: Dr Chomondley & Pearls Before Swine: One Nation Underground & yes Mike I agree I will be checking the OG prices first, but just keep my list to your self so no one else beats me to these bad boys. I don't usually get stuff on the day...mainly because the last 2 years I've been away. It's amazing how much RSD stuff you can still find well after the day at a decent price, although I still think all RSD stuff is waaaaaay over priced! Ok I'm looking at your shelves again & again woah!!! Misfits, Cramps, Cale/Reed, some Zambia shit and those other ones that I like the covers but don't know what they are!!! Your shelves are more exciting than RSD Mike!! The Godfather of fusion "Leave the gun, take the canoli" I believe they said. Sadly RSD really inflates the price of easy to get cheap 2nd hand records.Remember the old days when their were no RSD releases and you'd turn up to the record store & they'd have discounts, bands playing live & free beer!!! Maybe that's just Aus, but I miss those simple days. The Midge Ure...he sounds like he was a small bloke ha, ha! Mike enlightening & spiritual as usual. I have several Nuggets on vinyll. The OG, Nuggets II, West Coast Nuggets, The LA one, The Soft Pop Nuggets &b of course Down Under Nuggets & non of them were expensive at the time. Totally agree with you that most RSD stuff are dust collectors. Cheers....Mike
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147
I don’t line up any more for RSD either. In the afternoon I will head out to a few record stores to see what I can find otherwise last year I was finding stuff I wanted 6 months later. So many stores have a ton leftover. It never use to be like that, if you missed it it was gone. Now even albums that print only 1000 I can find probably because there is so much to choose from. You got a heck of a big list of some pretty cool albums. Now how many will you listen to later Mike. Yeah my wall has some favorite OGs, they make me happy, Happy Mike, Happy Life as the VC saying goes
@marciap-vc
@marciap-vc Год назад
I certainly won't be in line for anything but I'll stop by some stores late morning-early afternoon as usually it's the other things the store is doing that day to get my attention, like live music, free swag. You're right about live albums, sadly I am drawn to them, I like them, but I don't pull them out for normal listening. Thanks for brining this to my attention.
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147
Marcia, I generally don’t go until later now also. I travel every week and I can find most of what I want in other stores. Generally my local store will have what I want and since it is usually a little stranger it is waiting for me.

Hey Steve. Phrogg is on my list. Hoping to get the Nuggets box set too. Don't have much psyche in the collection. I have the Coryell already. He's been a staple in my collection. I hoped you were going to say it's worth a lot 😊. Roy Ayers is another favorite. I've been exposed to so many bands from past RSDs and that's what I'm talking about. Good luck 🤞.
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147
Sorry about the Coryell Greg, let’s just say it is worth a lot to you. That Nuggets is tempting but I will stick with my CD box set. Most of the albums I chose were new to me, I do like that aspect

Nothing on this year's list will cause me to drive the 360km to the nearest record store! I will be heading to the site sometime in may and I expect to peruse the few leftovers. I would probably get Eddie Money Covers, a couple of the 12" releases, and not a whole lot else. I regret some of my purchases from last April's RSD as they are collecting dust, so that is the lesson I learned too.
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147
Dean, that would be quite the drive for a couple of albums. If you really want something you can find most on line for the retail price. I drive only 2 miles now. After that in my travels I check the RSD leftover and usually find whatever else I wanted

Really interesting review Steve. It’s so easy for the weak amongst us (me!), to get overheated and ending up buying too much on RSD. I started with about 20 in my list when the list first came out. I’ve probably narrowed that down to about 5, and hopefully 3 maybe 4 on the day. Joe Strummer’s Streetcore is also a must for me. Superb album (last album, released after his death). Orange vinyl I believe. Also, Elton’s (don’t tell Ben Rankins for God’s sake!), releases his 50th anniversary Don’t Shoot Me……. It is re-cut, remastered and colored with a bonus record of demos from the making of the album. Don’t know why this isn’t just an ordinary release? Also, looking at Slits, Siouxsie snd Pixies. Thanks for your thoughts Steve! Mike🎸
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147
Slits and Siouxsie is not on our list Mike. I use to buy so much they would put my r3cords in a box lol. That was over a d3cade ago. With time I buy less and less thanks to the ease of researching it. We will see what I come up with

I could do w/o the colored vinyl and picture lps for good cover art and black vinyl and a lower price. I just can't pay such prices, but you do make an eccentric case via discogs of how a person could see some as deals.
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147
It was crazy how low some of these went on Discogs already. I really don’t understand dropping the prices that much already. They are losing money. It is a gamble. Agree with finding a way to lower prices but I don’t see that happening any time soon

I like your reasoning about the RSD reissues. There are a lot of albums in the list that I would like to get but I know they're gonna be over $40. It would be cheaper to get an original or an early repress. That Generation X album for example. I plan to pick the Ramones record and Pixies live for sure. Everything after that only if I have money left (unlikely).
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147
Will I had seen the Gen X, an album I had been wanting. I considered it but then a copy came into my local store for $15. I would always much rather have a OG. It is still a fun day but I have decided to finally be smarter about it. A old dog learned a new trick lol

Going to have to check if mine has the trumpet inside, never noticed that little touch. Yeah those Coryell LP's should not be expensive used, I might even have that 7th Galaxy one, that is when those expensive reissues don't make sense, why plug up the production pipeline for a $30 coloured vinyl pressing of something people can buy an original of for, let's say $5-$10. Will I listen to this again, that is what I am asking myself more and more these days as well. We'll see how it goes...cheers Steve!
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147
Doug, I am so with you on the question of will I listen to it again. Starting over a collection I tried to be more selective but have constantly failed at it. I think I'd definitely opt for an OG than a RSD version - espcially if an OG was cheaper. RSD relleases are definitely worth collecting though, because I'm not really interested in them and I have an infalible sixth sense when it comes to avoiding profitable investments.
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147

Hello 😀Steve; RSD, a must to avoid. RSD the New Years Eve of record collecting. ( Amateur Day ) With no list price structure & prices created by companies based on demand. Pressed in limited quantities by questionable sources. If their is a record you need & cannot find in decent condition at a reasonable price then RSD or Discogs may be your only option. Good of you to do a PSA on this issue. Good luck with your RSD wants. 🙋‍♀Tina & 🙋‍♂Pat!~
