Instead of saying “you have to actively steer the wheel back to center” I like to describe it as guiding the wheel back to center as it takes far less effort and the wheel is moving back to center on its own just not as fast as typically expected. Excellent videos! Keep up the great work and thank you.
that's true! we are just not used to that behaviour compared to our modern cars. now i can't even feel it anymore!! thank you very much!! new videos are in the making.....
Thanks for answering everyone’s questions. It’s super helpful hearing from an owner that has the final production model! Excited to watch more content as I anxiously wait mine. Sadly I am in the US so it is going to be awhile!
hope it won't be too long for you guys. but it's worth the wait!! I assume once they have sorted out the current issues, deliveries will be quite fast...
Great video thank you. Steering feeling was one of my concerns as well. I’m fortunate to be one of the few that’s driven a prototype on road and I must say I got used to the steering almost immediately. It’s really no big deal like many of the reviewers made it out to be. The Speedometer off-centre also really worried me, but my brother who drives a Tesla confirmed, it’s something you think about for the first few days and then it just becomes normal and you forget about it.
i completely agree with you!! both items are really not a big deal. i had one car with head-up-display and one with conventional speedometer....whenever i changed cars it took a few minutes to find it - but u adapt really quick. i guess the benefits of the better view off-roading outweighs the little "training" needed to find out your current speed....
I added "helicopter tape" to the same place on the door sill of my Land Cruiser for the same reason. It is thin, flexible and transparent. They also sell the same or similar as bicycle frame protection tape.
Just found your channel and subscribed. This will be interesting to follow along with your ownership experience. The Grenadier is probably the most exciting new vehicle to come into production in a long time. It may be a while before we see them here in the US however. Safe motoring.👍
Thank you very much! Especially the on-road steering was criticized al lot in the press reviews and i was really concerned about it. But as you sowed it in your video, i think it's all fine! thanks again!
Having not been able to get hands on here in the Midwest, I greatly appreciate your insights and videos. My questions are: 1) what does the key/fob look like? 2) was there a keyless entry and drive option? 3) is the truck permanent awd? Or front wheel drive switchable to 4x4 on loose terain? 4) what does the rear view camera look like and where is it positioned?
Hello Paul! Thx a lot.I will try to show those things in one of the next videos (maybe when I talk about the Infotainment System...). Here's a short answer: 1.) it is a conventional key, you can fold it into the body of the remote. you actually have to turn the ignition to get it going. the key has 3 buttons on the remote part: open - close - panic (which sounds the horn) 2.) keyless entry is not an option, only central locking via the remote. 3.) permanent all wheel drive! you can lock the center differential on all cars. front and rear diff locks are an option. 4.) the rear view camera is underneath the spare wheel. it keeps quite clean there even when going offroad and i like the fact that it shows the tow ball as well!! i try to add some footage to one of the videos!
This vehicle together with the Defender, Gelandewagen, Land Cruiser 76/79 /Prado/300 are the only ones on the market where you do not get baked like a microwave potatoe by the sun in the front due to their more upright profiles. Especially driving into the direction of the sun. Here in South Africa they work especially well.
that is a really good point!!! when i was in the desert with the Grenadier, it snowed 🙈🙈🙈. but the next time i'll check. So would you go without Safari windows?
Yes to be honest I wasn't worried about, the criticism regarding the steering, having, driven, my defender, for the past 22 years, I have had to,,actually drive it, they are, unique, in this regard, and definitely not like any, modern type vehicle, quite used to it now after covering 270,000,miles.and hope I have the opportunities to drive my Grenadier, same distances, when it finally arrives, thanks for the videos, very envious 😅🎉!!! .
@@grenadier_exploring hi there yes , it's a td5, this one, I have owned others over the years, so , this Grenadier, is the first new vehicle I've ever owned, so looking forward to this very much, after following the story from the beginning, seen and sat in one but never driven one, so am buying it blind really, my gut feeling tells me it's built right and built to last , I suppose only time will tell, atb.steve.
i am the same. first new car ever, reserved it before i saw it. ordered it after driving as a passenger in a prototype. hope it is as durable as it looks/feels!! one Grenadier takes part in the "SuperKarpata Trophy" in a few weeks. One of the toughest off road events....looking forward to see that.
@grenadier_exploring really, well that's great, will the rally highlights of the Grenadier be on utube? They must be confident, to enter the vehicle then ! Which makes me less nervous!!
Please keep the videos coming. I am in the U.S and scheduled to see and test drive one next month (just 20 mins off road with no on pavement driving). You mentioned on road driving as it relates to "micro managing" steering inputs when going straight. I can only assume it is not unlike the older Jeeps. If you one is not accustomed to driving them, one wants to constantly over correct the steering when going in a straight line. But that is just an assumption. Thanks for he video.
the term "micro managing" was brought up by a jeep owner. unfortunately I never drove one for longer periods, so I can't compare. The steering is definitely "different" in the Grenadier but it does not require crazy inputs going straight on a highway
Can the raised air intake be added later if it is not ordered with the vehicle? By the way, love Austria. Ich habe in Wien gewohnt und Österreich ist eines meines Lieblingsländer.
oh...schön! ich habe auch 20 jähre in wien gewohnt!! as far as I know you can get all the accessories from Ineos also afterwards. Most of them are fitted by the dealer anyways and not in the factory!
great info, what are you grabbing above the door there to get in? also, is there a rust ring around the hubs on the steel wheels, noticed it in showroom production model. thks
there is a handle up there! I am just off for work abroad but I will check the hubs as soon as i am back. mine is so dirty - hard to tell without having a closer look ;-).
Hi. I definitely would do it again!! Also exactly in the same configuration as I ordered it. I still love the car and it's a joy to drive every day. no matter if it's as a daily driver, hauling trailers, working in the woods with the winch, going off-road or overlanding. I have and had really nice cars including sports cars and convertibles.....the Grenadier is something very special. Of course not everything is perfect but it is good, reliable, built to last and has some really nice features. the engine is great as well and there are many possibilities to customize it. The big advantage now is, that there are so many aftermarket products and accessories. I didn't have a lot to chose from and had to wait or develop/design it on my own. You probably have seen the current status of my car and all my toys and parts....only missing a few inches of lift and a protection for the fuel tank, which I definitley wanna get after driving off-road quite a bit (as mentioned in my "How To? - Eposide 06").
Hey, thank you for the content you're sharing so far! I would however recommend uploading in 1080p to say the least because the quality really butchers how good the grenadier is :( Thx!
The information you are providing, is very helpful, over deciding if the Grenadier, is worth a closer look at. Do you have and driving issues, in the foot well, with regards the foot pedals and the left foot angled or sloped rest foot plate too, as we heard complaints over this on Right hand driver versions of the Grenadier? As your vehicle is a Left Hand Diver, is there a difference here on drivers foot well spacing? We would be interested in a Left Hand Driver version of the Grenadier Petrol vehicle, but fitted with 360-degree driving and parking digital camera system, for use in the UK and Australia plus New Zealand, towing an Australian All terrain caravan, but equally driving across Europe and Canada too!
i have the LHD version and there are no issue at all - no hump. only drove the RHD for a few hours...didn´t realise any problems but i was overwhelmed by impressions at that time. that 360-degree camera is for sure helpful...it´s a big car!!
it only requires minor inputs. i don't even realise it anymore. that's why i took the video as well - to check! i really like how it performs on the motorway
Just discovered your channel 👍 A lot has been made about the poor wiper position and the fact on the RHS model, vision will be quite badly affected at the a pillar. But looking at your position on the LHD model, the wiper marks leave a good bit of your screen near the a pillar uncleared. So do you think both sides are poorly cleared?
i have a clip when driving in the rain. i am just planning to add the spray function as well at various speed and will post that soon. I think the wipers could be better (both - LHS and RHS steering) and there is a part uncleared towards the a-column. what i hear from the Ineos engineers, they are working on an improvement there. i didn't find it too bad going through the rain and snow...
@@TantersD3 thx. I really love it - even if it might not be perfect for everyone. but all the off-road cars are customised by the owners anyways ;-). trying to get the video online next week (have to work in my real job a little bit as well ;-))
Mmh...interesting. Thank you for your videos. Perhaps you wouldn't mind answering a question: I have my Grenadier for only 5 days so far and I cannot get into low range. Vehicle stopped, engine running, foot on brake, transmission in neutral, then... Lift collar on transfer case lever but it absolutely WILL NOT move back into low range. I can engage diff lock smoothly without a problem, but low range remains out of reach. I am feeling very stupid...
@@grenadier_exploring An update: I kept on trying and eventually accidentally moved the transmission into manual while parked on a slope. My next attempt to engage low range was successful, so I tried again, and succeeded again. Drove around a little and was unsuccessful no matter what I did. HOWEVER, I think my Grenadier realised I was not going to stop trying and now lets me engage low range. Not easily and a certain amount of swearing is necessary, but the initial problem has gone (I think...) I am now fully occupied trying to find the 10A power outlet under the bonnet which is certainly there, but currently invisible. Perhaps it will reveal itself at the next change of the moon. Thanks for you help encouragement with the gear shift.
good!! just need to be persistent 🤪. that power outlet is just below the brake fluid container. i will show them in a video i will release in a few days!
fuel consumption is like Ineos´ numbers. on the freeway (130-140km/h) it's of course high (13-14.5l/100km) and when you drive normal roads up to 100-110km/h it goes down to 11-12l/100km. on average I am currently around 12-13l/100km. I am not holding back to save fuel when I drive and those were my numbers so far (a lot of motorway and mountain passes and a bit of off-road as well). (if u need it in MPG i can calculate that as well)
When going 130 Kph what is the RPM? How hard is the engine working at that speed. I’ve heard some say the car needs a 9th gear to settle the engine a bit at highway cruise speeds.
In my video "Dimensions, Stowage, Cargo" I briefly point the locations and amount out. I will release another video soon about the Infotainment system and electric panel/outlets. There are 2 USB outlets in the central stowage box and another two in the center of the passenger foot area (each USB-A and C). Two 12V outlets (central stowage and Cargo area). Hope that helps....
I’ve recently ordered a commercial five seat Grenadier in the UK. There are a few issues that could be improved or should be but cannot. There should be grab handles to assist entry on every door, just like my old Land Cruiser 100. The rear seats can’t fold flat, but this is less of an issue for my choice because it has a metal cargo barrier fitted behind the rear seats anyhow. The right hand drive vehicles have a big lifted area in the left of the floor, which is also on the passenger side of the left hand drive versions. his is intrusive for the driver because it means his foot rests at what is effectively brake pedal height. Not great for legroom or comfort. Surely BMW could fit a vertical rather than sloping exhaust manifold and pipe, so as to enable a wider flat floor. On the ones I’ve seen so far, it is possible to close the small rear door first, which results in a dented exterior panel if the large door is shut after it. I have one concern that I have not tested because I have yet to see another commercial version, and that is whether the rear seat backrest is further forward than seen in the video, which would mean it was even harder to climb on board than shown. It is somewhat of a pity that they have not yet fitted a hybrid system with battery pack under those rear seats in order to improve fuel economy and stop/start smoothness.
many valid points. I am also installing a customised drawer system to level the floor once the seat are folded....should be ready in a few weeks. I guess a hybrid system would have made the (already heavy) car even heavier....
I've already made up my mind that I'm getting one but how is the visibility out of the windows in the rear seats? Are they too low to see out of if you're about 6' 2"/ 188 cm? The ceilings are very high so that's good but I'm wondering if it's even possible for tall people to turn your head to the side and see out the window.
Also one more question is there a way to turn off most of the screen leaving just the speedometer on? I'm going to get an aftermarket speedometer to put in front of the steering wheel anyway and if you can't turn the screen off I'm going to have to make some homemade cover because I like the screen off while driving at night.
ok. i understand what you mean. i am 5`11 (180) and and visibility was good when i sat in the back. but i didn't really pay attention. let me check from a slightly elevated position when i am back home (currently working)
Ingmar, thanks for the first hand experience sharing. Can you say something on the fuel (diesel) consumption? Would be curious how thirsty the engine is;-)
of course... fuel consumption is like Ineos´ numbers. on the freeway (130-140km/h) it's of course high (13-14.5l/100km) and when you drive normal roads up to 100-110km/h it goes down to 11-12l/100km. on average I am currently around 12-13l/100km. @@grenadier_exploring thanks Ingemar. L/KM is fine. I thought a little bit less. Just saw my car today at the dealership and signed the admin stuff for the registration.
@@patpie3703 nice!!! congrats. I am sure you can get it significantly below my values....as I said: i had a lot of fun with the car and wasn't saving fuel ;-)
that's just a quick reference to see if the wheel is centered, especially for off-roading. Additionally, there is also a steering angle indication on the screen in one of the off-road modes.
everything on this car seems to be designed with a pretty big margin. i don't think i need to change anything for my planned setup! of course i will talk about that in my videos as well
i´ve been told they changed the way the switches work on the production cars. just recently i recorded a video regarding the diff locks and various off-road modes where i engage all of them and talk about it. will go online very soon. whenever i used/tried them on my car they worked fine.
that depends on the country you are getting one. in Austria we have an additional tax (42% on top of 20% VAT) which makes them quite expensive unfortunately. (this configuration was 116k EUR approx.80k without the ridiculous tax)
@@grenadier_exploring I thought it was supposed to be cheaper than the Defender, even without your extra tax that price is hilarious for an unproven vehicle made by a company that never made a car before.
i won't deny it is a risk! but after looking at all the components they used and given the company that developed the car (MagnaSteyr - they built the Pinzgauer, G-Wagon, ...) it is a monetary risk I am willing to take. only time will tell if I was right...
this week i has the chance to pull a heavy trailer (a tractor loaded)! it has 7700lbs and it was very smooth and nice to drive. i‘ll try to include that in a future video…
Great real reporting. Interested in your view of rear seat foot room - I find it very limited and actually a worse issue than the (RHD) driver footwell. Decent sized boots will be very cramped and there’s no way this will seat 5 adults. Also, your real world fuel consumption experience would be great to hear.
i spent a few times in the back and i find it ok...but as you said: not for 5 adults. the foot room on the middle seat is way too small. I like the slightly elevated seating position in the back row - so you can see quite well from there. fuel consumption is like Ineos´ numbers. on the freeway (130-140km/h) it's of course high (13-14.5l/100km) and when you drive normal roads up to 100-110km/h it goes down to 11-12l/100km. on average I am currently around 12-13l/100km. Ref the diesel engine ,what is fuel usage @100 Km per hour and @130 KM per hour on B roads and motorways.Very important given it's weight and size for long trips. I sat in one @Goodwood revival in September and was impressed with interior fit and finish.Price is good to. Its way superior to the land Rover discovery in my opinion. Reliability of the L -Rover u.k brand is very bad,has been for many years And they do not modify ,fix the problems in design at factory.
hi. I am impressed by the interior as well...and how comfortable and relatively quiet it is - even at higher speeds. my current consumption is around 12l/100km but I am not a "fuel saver" plus I had to drive on motorways a lot recently. On normal roads you should be able to get it to 10l and on the motorway it goes up to 13-14.5l when driving 130km/h (depending on wind/uphill...) (last trip over 350km, mainly motorway, climbing two mountain passes, cruise control at 133km/h (except im tunnels etc), I had 13.1l/100km at the end)
No OFF ROAD?? Purpose-built off-road vehicle and no off-road videos. And I'm hoping for ones where it gets cross axle and have to use the locker not just a dirt road
hello Ronald! i thought there were so many reports about the off-road-capabilities out there, that i focus on every-day issues first. but i am planning a video about the offroad functions within the next few days and some offroad driving in the next 2weeks. pls bear with me cause i am at work (abroad) right now...
