LAUGHING...."Who eats 8 cups of vegetables a day, I do." So funny. I became sick. Hard to walk a few feet without gasping for air, fatigued, horrible muscle cramp in legs, feet, biceps, palms of hands, ribs...heart racing, constant thirst and getting up 6 times a night to urinate. My sister knew I eat a low carb diet and never eat processed food or add salt to my food. She said to try salt. I poured 1/2 teaspoon on the palm of my hand and ate it. The effect was immediate. The next day I was able to walk a fast mile in 10 minutes without getting out of breath and was energized. I can sleep at night. The amazing thing is the thirst is gone. I had complained to doctors, was referred to specialist for asthma which I don't have. I was referred to cardiologists but no heart problem. No one fixed the problem until I began consuming salt. I am completely fine now and blood pressure stays at 110/60 and I am 68 yrs old. I take salt every morning now in my hand because I don't care for it on my food, unless I eat eggs.
Pretty much the same story. Around 10 trips to the ER and Primary couldn’t figure it out. Once I added fat and cut back excessive water drinking to thirst, it was smooth sailing from there! Was getting edema 2x per month post additional salt until I started eating more (healthy) fat and no longer diluting sodium and electrolytes with all that electrolyte deficient water. I’m vegetarian.
Wow: THANK YOU! Suffered from tormenting leg cramps at night for DECADES--& doctors had no meaningful advice. FINALLY realized the need for more Magnesium, Potassium, Sodium. EXCELLENT interview.
Wow! This video is old (by internet standards). I recently heard on a carnivore video that pink salt (himalayan) is for iodine, and grey salt (celtic) is for magnesium. Some people alternate (switch from one to the other). to cover both minerals. I have never restricted my salt intake, but, I wondered if I was making a dangerous mistake. Thanks for setting my mind at ease. Thumbs up!
Himalayan salt and Celtic salt or not the same as table salt. Table salt is the key nutrients which plays a role in The body. It is vital to one have correct electrolytes balance.
@@armando9293 well, my migraine are bad enough. it doesnt matter. if it helps then it helps. at one time. i thought i would go crazy from pain or met my maker. so there that.
Amazing. I take Mag 200 mg BID, and have recently been having a return of symptoms...HA, toe and calf cramps, eye twitching and trouble sleeping for extended periods. I thought I was having a return in previous inability to absorb nutrients, and am currently in the process of switching out my citrate oral to glycinate powder due to this. Listening here, I find that I definitely need to increase my salt intake. No wonder I LOVE my fermented veggies, and my Sunday dinner (bacon and eggs). I am salt deficient! Thank you for enlightening me.
keep in mind that 200mg is such a small amount - most of it doesn't absorb, so taking more is better since if you get too much, it will excrete from the body. I think nothing of taking 1,000mg/day but not all at once. One needs enough potassium to absorb the magnesium. Taking various kinds of magnesium is best because each have different functions. For instance magnesium L-Theonine helps the nervous system. I order various kinds of mag. from bulksupplements.com (or they can be found on Amazon)..
I know I’m late to this party but this is so key to fixing my issues! Summers in New Orleans is no joke, I drink lots of water but still have issues I see it’s salts/mineral depletion
20:30 - well this could explain why my teeth have rapidly degenerated. I'm only 37 and my teeth are almost whittled down to the gum line. I've been low salt for many years - and no doubt not getting enough trace minerals in other ways. I was also doing lots of Reverse Osmosis water with nothing in it over the years which can just flush out more minerals without replacing any.
Very grateful for this info! Many thanks! One small pet peeves...could Dr. DiNicolantonio stop saying " what people don't understand" ? We are not stupid, just uninformed. How about saying " what people don't know"? That would be right on!! Thanks! 😊
eat himalayan salt instead of table salt. i eat good amount of salt and salt my food everyday. i try to avoid table salt as much as possible. sea salt use to be good but nowadays, our sea is so much polluted.
Sugar should be what we should be afraid of not salt salt is my lifesaver because I have Addison’s disease I have to have more salt but I find out the hard way
I got my brother to watch this video. He has edema in legs, diabetes, wounds that won’t heal. He said why can’t sailors drink salt water? He thinks all his health problems began when he started eating anchovies years ago. When he has a lot of salt in his food now his lips crack, fingertips crack. Any idea what might be the problem?
I cannot tolerate salt. It increases my blood pressure immediately. No doubt in my mind! I have an active lifestyle and exercise daily I am able to do this with a daily kelp supplement and also frequent doses of a sea moss concoction I prepare myself. As a result of a total absence of salt from my diet, since I turned 55, and the inclusion of kelp and sea moss I have complete control of my blood pressure and symptoms of heart disease Admittedly when I didn’t pay attention to replacing the benefits of salt and iodine in my diet I had consequences. Felt lethargic and had nutritional deficiencies. I wish I had eliminated salt from my diet many years ago. We just have to know how to do it well without causing nutritional repercussions. It’s just not for everyone. We can replace the nutritional value of salt and iodine by using other products.
great interview Mark. Just wondering if sprinkling a little epsom salt in tea is a good way to increase magnesium (on the cheap compared to supplements).
Not the preferred source but -- Yes it is a cheap source of dietary magnesium. Caveat: I'm not Mark and I'm not a doctor. Practice magnesium dosing at your own risk
Soooo in regards to nuts and omega 6s, are you saying it's ok to eat nuts/seeds with sunflower, canola, peanut, and etc. oils on them...or why do we have to eat them raw if it is ok... or you saying naturally nuts/seeds have omega 6s in them not necessarily add them by bad for you oils
MSEDUB Raw seeds, yes. Raw nuts, mostly yes (almonds are pasteurized and still labeled raw in the US so import them). Roasted nuts and seeds are more risky. Canola oil is a big no, the manufacturing process turns it into trans fat. Other vegetable oils are ok ONLY if they are cold pressed, expeller pressed and stored in dark bottles. Absolutely avoid all vegetable oils found in prepackaged foods, even breadstuffs. They are damaged.
MSEDUB He's saying bottled oils are separated from compounds (such as vitamin E) that keep them from being oxidized. The takeaway is that omega 6 from whole, raw food are very healthy. The research backs this up as well. Limit standalone oils in general, but you can cook with a variety of hard to oxidize oils: peanut, avocado, coconut, animal fat, olive oil etc. Eat your raw nuts and seeds to replace your unhealthy body omega 6 with the good kind.
Dr hyman, Love to show.. please restrain yourself and stopped interjecting vocally with :'yeahs' and there is essence and interjections. let the man speak for himself, let The Listener listen, stay quiet and peaceful in your seat with your mouth closed and all will be well until it's time for the next question
From Dr. Hyman to the comment section it's so obvious that people are leaving logic and healthy skepticism behind to embrace their addiction to salty food and buy this guys pseudo-science hook line and sinker!
The question is who has the standard fish lure hanging off their lower lip. It takes self responsibility to do some research and accept the bruised ego off realizing you’ve been doing self harm due to following bogus guidelines! Follow the money....it leads back several decades. It’s hard to hear but George McGovern’s push to protect Americans’ health actually lead to great harm!
