I think it is good advice in general although a plan not followed is of little value. Start small and basic and add stuff to it as you progress. Log everything.

Siim in this case, why introduce sweet potatoes and other carbs while still 10 kg overweight? Wouldn't that only slow one down and lead to further carb cravings and less satiety? I'd imagine it'd be better to keep fat as primary fuel the entire way through until goal weight has been reached.

I enjoy your content Slim, but people who have never been overweight really aren't good at giving advice to people who are severely overweight. I just lost 10kg in 9 weeks, including a recent 1 week diet break. I'll make my own video about that ha, but the one thing that thinnies don't get is that satiety is overrated, or at least misunderstood. For the most people, fat people are not getting satiated, in any sense that matters, eating broccoli. Tbh the walking is OTT too. Now actually I have done a decent amount of walking last few weeks, but I have always been physically active. 2h a day will be way too much for someone starting out; they will need to taper up even to that IMO. Plus unless they have a desk treadmill they won't find the time. What will almost certainly happen is that they will eat back those calories.

Don't lose weight fast. Slow it down. But watch it carefully, and don't let it go backward. When you get past incremental targets, and you have been past them a couple weeks, set them as marks you will not allow your body to cross again. And you are absolutely right, that 2 hours starting is too much. I started with just 10 laps around my house, and built slowly. In fact, 2 hours is probably never really ideal. The calories burned during exercise itself is not effective for weight loss. Portion control, getting quality sleep so you can tell your hunger "no" even when the day is dragging on, and eating food that are more satisfying relative to calories are all important. The winners for me are cooked fresh/frozen green beans and butternut squash. And even though raw hulled sunflower seeds have a lot of calories, they seem to help stop the hunger. Exercise is good for building lots of different muscles, not bulking, just making things functional, improving joint function, and keeping your metabolism from grinding down from cutting calories. Don't reward yourself for exercising with food, if you are trying to lose fat. Some good tasting mineral water is a great choice as a reward. And, it is important to remember that any food you eat at the end of the day is going to be turned to fat. I am down 61 pounds, all of it fat. I don't have a precise weight, I am going for. I want to be between 14 and 17% fat. That is not crazy lean, but I don't think I have ever been that lean, so it should be interesting. I have been very strong in the past and even been able to row at a high level, but I have never been trim. The lowest I have been as an adult is 210 lb, with 172 lb of other than fat. So, 38 lb of fat. I did not feel that great at that weight. Running, peloton, some weights... Running was miserable. And I don't think it did great things for me, either. 210 is probably just too heavy for running at 6ft tall anyway, maybe for people taller and leaner. I felt my best at 235, and doing a lot of rowing, stair climbing, lifting, and stretching. Maybe 180-185 lb of other than fat. I remember doing a test, I just don't remember the result. But I know I still had some belly. Current fat-free weight is 168 lb. I would like another 15-25 lb of upper body muscle, but I am not going to do anything that might damage my future health to get there. I am probably only halfway to my target. I am not that depressed about that, as I am feeling great. It is hard to imagine how I will feel when I get there. My body likes hiking, so I think I will keep doing that but add back in the rowing, resistance, and stretching. When I was rowing, I would do 3-4, all-out 500m sprints and 10,000m at around 36-37 minutes.

12k steps a day sounds sustainable. 50 lb weight loss should take about 18 months. Signing up for a regular weekly fitness class with the same group of people works well for me as an added social pressure.

I would shorten this to alternate day fasting and mild exercise until you're reasonably close to your goal. The supplements and overtraining probably will slow your weight loss.

I think this is somewhat of a fail. I was very overweight, and I had to build up walking much slower than that. I started with just 10 laps around the outside of my house, for a couple weeks. Even then, I was getting minor ankle, knee and hip injuries. I sat out a day or two when injured. I did not push it hard. Went to 20 laps after a few weeks, then 30, then 40, then 50. Then I started walking around a nearby lake. I think it is 3/4 of a mile around. I was doing 3 laps. Then I moved onto hiking the hills around the lake, roughly 90 minutes to 130 minutes, around 5 days a week. I did not think I would be going up and down the tougher stuff, at the weight I am at, but I am. But there is no way around it, portion control is essential. Enduring hunger. Skipping those snacks after your last meal. Skipping seconds and thirds. Just save those leftovers, rather than finishing off the pan. I agree with skipping dinner, though not necessarily moving it later, by as much as suggested. For me, the cut-off is 5:30 PM. But if I am starving, I permit frozen mixed vegetables up to 6:30 PM. Those are easy to throw in a bowl and into the microwave. Sleep quality is what I am after. Being heavy is terrible for sleep. Hunger does not just get worse. It comes and it goes. And a huge omission, do not eat a lot of Advanced Glycation End-products when adding more protein. No pan-frying, deep-frying, grilling, roasting, broiling, or otherwise getting meat much past the temp of boiling water. Steaming, boiling need to be used much more. AGEs are associated with every major disease of aging. Skip the hot dogs and other processed meats. No Parmesan, Butter, Feta, Mayonnaise, Cream Cheese, Margarine (or similar). He is probably a vegetarian and when he says "protein" he is thinking beans or something, while the audience is thinking steak. I have lost 60 lb, all of it fat, and feel massively better. My labs are also dramatically better. Still more to go, however. I had 16 blood markers out of "normal." Down to 5, and some are close. I am getting there. Kidney and liver numbers are now near optimal. Looking forward to a clean bill of health. Resting heart rate is below 50. HS-CRP is at or below the limits of the test. Blood pressure is averaging 119. I am 55. Also, you want to lose weight (fat) slowly. This fast stuff nearly always boomerangs. And if you are like me, you end up 20 lb heavier than before the weight loss. I decided not to do dieting because I could not afford another 20 lb at the end. So I did not diet for over 5 years. But looking at my numbers and my poor health, I decided I had to do it. And I think I can at the very least maintain. Slow weight loss is the right approach for me. It is not about trying to impress people with how fast you can lose the weight. It is about getting healthy and maintaining it. Don't even attempt a diet you can't stick to. That just sets you up for failure. That said, you can learn to like foods. I think it is terrible to eat something unhealthy to lose weight. Definitely do not go on a bacon, butter and fried chicken diet.

Eating a low carb high fat diet as opposed to a “concentrate on the calories” diet ignores the fact that low carb high fat satiates. Yes, protein increase and fiber increase could possibly do this but fat primarily satiates.

High carb low fat diet can be equally satiating. Satiety index isnt dependent of fat %

@SiimLand Think it depends on your body, right? I was insulin resistant so it was hard to loose weight eating carbs . After a period of low carb, keto my body responds very well to carbs. I've kept 56 lbs off for 5 years.

I think coffee isn't good, it increases cortisol, and if you're overweight you already have cortisol issues, poor sleep because you're overweight and caffeine possibly affecting sleep, and coffee is dehydrating, and and you're overweight and prediabetic you're already constantly thirsty
@eatfatlivelong1529
@eatfatlivelong1529 2 месяца назад
There is a ton of research showing the numerous benefits of caffeine for fat loss and lean tissue hypertrophy. As far as high cortisol, that can be mitigated with proper exercise. Proper resistance training and high intensity intervals, avoiding long steady aerobic work and opting for anaerobic workouts in it's place.
