I am 75 years young, had knee medial meniscus surgery a few month ago. I started therapy in mid December and finished the therapy by Mid February. The therapist told me to increase my animal protein consumption to 120 grams daily and start working out with weights. I used kettlebells during my training. Here no in mid April, I have gained 8 lbs of muscle through resistance training, proof that it’s never to late! I don’t eat processed foods and now concentrate on protein and resistance training daily!
My friend started getting grey hair at 20 years old! My dad didnt get his first grey hair until he was older than 60years old. My sister constantly reminds me.. I can run for 3 hours (easily) at my 75% zone. (middle of zone 3) For brain health, I think learning new dancing and a new language are great! I love dancing new dance routines and styles as you need to use the brain to keep track of what is happening with your partner and moving your feet!
Hair greying is not an absolute indicator of age. Some get early, some not. There was an Italian football player in the national team who got grey hair at age 30 something. Do you believe he was biologically 55 years old and still keeping with the best?
Great recap! Sure we can control aging! I'm 64 and still haven't hit that "damn I'm old" moment. I still feel great; seldom get tired, no aging diseases. I've been very active, and I've maintained good muscle mass. Love to hike in the mountains and work with kettlebells. I have very few facial wrinkles and almost no gray hair. People guys, I'm in my forties. I seriously know a lot of people in their 40s who have far more wrinkles, even actors,I've noticed. I learn new stuff every day. I was fortunate enough to home school my kids when I was in my forties, so I had to relearn and teach algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and physics. Now, I study every day, and I am learning Spanish. My work as a performer has me learning new songs all the time, what to speak of working hard on weekends as a performer.
Any chance for a new video on testosterone? There are lots of new studies I'm sure. There are things that work for testosterone, but might decrease DHT for example. Or sth like Panax gingeng that is good for libido but bad for DHT etc. That video would be great. Also a vid on apigenin
it would be helpful if you did a 10 second summary at the end, instead of just saying focus on the five key aspects discussed in this video. sometimes both the rapid thick science talk and the thick accent make it hard for me to readily process and digest all i've heard for 10+ minutes. just like a little bullet point reminder list at the end would be great. thanks.
I think it's important to start these things early. If you wait until you're 50, it's not too late to get healthy but I doubt you'll be able to turn back the clock that much. Some of the other longevity "influencers" I think will still age quite fast because they abused their bodies for so long. I think your flexible and varied high quality diet and exercise is the best approach.
There are many important factors. Any regular physical activity is good. And HIIT is possibly the single best exercise. Though I also do muscle-building. I'm also a fan of supplementing collagen, if I probably get plenty from meat. Then of course, the maintaining neurocognitive abilities are important. All of those are no-brainers. But I'm starting to think that equally, if not more, important are some other factors. I'm particularly thinking of: light (circadian sunlight exposure, red light therapy, blue light reduction, etc) and water (clean source like spring or glacier, mineral rich like Quinon, deuterium-depleted, structured, etc); along with protection against non-native EMF. As for other things, I'm not so sure it's clear. Siim brings up hormones, in context of getting too much protein and too little carbs. But most of that research is done on unhealthy people on the standard American diet. There are many healthy people on low-carb, animal-based diets who seem to have no hormonal problems.
Just read ur comment, and was wondering where i could get more good info on the drinking water. My country has "clean" drinking water, so i never looked much into it.
You can prevent lack of estrogen by doing HRT. Biggest antiager for women. That chart for loss of collegen is wrong for women as without estrogen it tanks much faster in your fifties.
Summary for those who don't want to watch: 1. PUFA depleting 2. Regularly taking aspirin 3. Fully eliminating starches, most fibers, and gluten, preferring citrus, dates, or sugar for carbs. 4. Adding sugar or milk to your coffee, drinking more coffee. 5. Replace muscle meat with gelatin
Depends on the approach - if you're trying to remember the facts, engaging in active recall, then raise (though it's still not nearly an optimal method). If you're attempting to multitask, not keeping attention, interrupting your focus on something else, then might lower.
