I like your videos, I’ve just started re-learning as well (in my 30’s) and finding it tough so far, really takes its toll on my lower back and legs! My dream is to get my tre flip back, and I’d love to be able to hardflip because I never got that one but I think it might be out of reach now.

Update. I landed my first varial kickflip today since 2001, inspired by your videos. Felt great. The journey back to tre flip continues. Keep up the good work Dan!

I am also an older skater and also a new skater trainer and I 100% admire your approach. Tuned in and enjoying and ready for my varials as well

props to you on landing the varial flip man!! good luck on those treflip, it s all about scooping the backfoot super hard, you got it for sure!!🙏🔥

It's not really all about that to be honest. The biggest difference is the back foot position with the toes hanging off more and the way the scoop 'ends later' throughout the scoop, meaning your board already passed 90 degrees (shove it) the moment it actually pops in the scoop. The release of pressure and the flick do the rest. In reality, the amount of scooping force applied is _very_ similar to a varial kickflip. It's easily the biggest thing that messes with people who have the tre flips on lock when they try to go back doing varial kickflips. In reality, you can do a 'pressurised' version of the varial kickflip the same as you could for a tre flip. But in most cases people do actually flick for the kickflip part of the trick. There might be a slightly different ratio to flick and scoop, with a varial kickflip being more of a 50% scoop and 50% flick type trick, but the difference isn't huge with a tre flip.

@@PHeMoX actually at first it s mostly about scooping harder to understand the motion, then move youre backfoot to get the sweet spot of the foot over th side of the tail and then everything is in the backfoot (if you flick your tre there s an issue which is probably that you don t pop enough or that yoir backfoot ain t in the right spot ) but at first, right after you learn the varial it s sleasier to think about scooping harder to get over the fear of sending it and to get used to the board rotation

Great, i'm the same relearning and age situation as you but you are further than me. Nice to see and very interesting. Think i'm also going for softer wheels to save the knees. Thank you for the tip.

I just got into it again after a more than 2 decade break, 43 now. Getting legs back is so much more painful now lol

Welcome back! No joke, my legs were sore for 6 months straight. It eventually gets better, as long as you skate often.

Tre its just a pop shove foot placement and a lower more too the side front foot movement. Scoop and flip at same time but its just a tap vs varial. I hate varial kickflips from the day i first seen folk doing them.

Hey Dan I’m learning how to skate again in my 50’s. Did you ever do it? *I wanna do it, it may be the first ever 50 year trey flip😮
@SkateAgain

Still in progress! I can land them on my carpet board and I'm close to it on a real board. I took a short year-long diversion to work on kick flips.

Man I hear you, that’s sick! I finally popped and caught one the other day. It’s been a battle. 😅 After I get it consistent I’m also coming for the 360 flip. I’ve only done about a dozen in my life so it will definitely be a battle for sure!❤🛹🤘 Good luck to you brother!🤙
