so I just blew up my kicker comprt 12. my new amplifier was to powerful. the amp was going into protect mode but I ignored it thinking it was anther issue. sounded pretty good right up to until it locked up.
The enclosure is worth keeping, replace the CompRT12 sub with another one. You must have sent a really distorted signal to it, I have been pounding mine for a while now and they take every bit of 500W RMS each from my Kicker amps.
How does it sound? I bought a new one for my wife's SUV and haven't had a chance to install it yet. I was wondering will it be enough bass. I have a RF prime that will be powering it. The amp is rated @ 500 watts rms x 1 @ 2 ohms.
@@darrianbenjamin7292 Sounds great, I have two of the 2 ohm 12s underneath the cargo floor of my SUV for a completely stealth install and full use of the rear cargo area. Plenty of pretty tight bass with the passive radiators, I beat on them pretty good and no issues for the last two years now.
I recently was running two Kicker Comp RT’s in my 2012 Ram 1500 Laramie, under the back seat, But I wanted a deeper, harder hit. I ended up going with the new “D D SL600-12” (2 Ohm) (Aka Digital Design). Let me tell you, These shallow mount DD 12s freakin pound, they are 600 watt rms a piece, Im using a 1200.1 Kicker D mono amp, and its amazing! Check them out!!
I run at least double power on all my subs. After impedance rise your sub only sees about half your amps rated power anyway if your lucky, sometimes it's less than half. And thats if your electrical is correct. Your failure was probably due to dirty signal either from amp not being set correctly or dirty signal in the music reproduction. If you don't find out what caused this sub to blow, you'll have the same issue with any sub eventually. It's usually never the subwoofers that fail. I, like many older guys that grew up in the 90s found this out the expensive way 😂
Yes. The higher power does not do it. It's distortion that kills them. Enclosures will effect that also when it comes to design and sub parameters. Mainly that's going to be noticed in a ported enclosure. Proper loading can be a problem also when power is increased. But good clean power the sub will take it up to it's physical limits.
@@bryanCLXT I have heard from a couple installers that Kicker is really good about that. Also the main reason I went with Kicker, you know, shit happens!
@@zacharycifers5016 I have had both several times and Skar isn't even on the level with Kicker. Maybe amps are different, I have never had a Skar amp and I don't particularly like Kicker amps either, but Kicker subs are something else entirely and to compare the two is just crazy!!!
