Time flies when you're having fun and it's already been two (actually four now! 12/23) years with my 2018 Lexus LC500. Am I still enamored with it or am I ready to part ways? Watch and find out! Cell phone mount: www.proclipusa...
I think this is actually the best LC500 build I have ever seen... and nothing tooo crazy, apparently all you really have to do is gloss black all the silver. Very nice.
My dad passed away last weekend, and this is the car he had. A 2018 LC500. Ready to get it so I can take care of it, keep the miles low, and keep it forever. Very nice 500 you have as well
I have a Nissan GT-R and I'm really contemplating moving into an LC500. This car is much more sophisticated in design quality. Many tell me it would be a performance downgrade which is true but this car is in a league of its own which I appreciate.
I’ve never driven a gtr before and I’m sure it out performs the LC500 but nobody buys an LC to race. Comfort with enough power is what it is. I’m happy with mines.
whats interesting is I just bought a 2022 lc yesterday....I used to have a GTR. I do miss the GTR but this lexus will be slower but more luxurious...kind of has it all.
The 30 mpg is because the engine transforms to an Atkinson cycle (usually used in hybrid applications - the intake valve train changes to Late Intake Valve Closing (LIVC) when cruising at highway speeds where the power requirements at low. If you need power the engine immediately switches back to Otto cycle and away you go. This Atkinson cycle provides the improvement in FE (over the 26 mpg EPA hwy number) Not sure why Lexus does not advertize this feature. I won a coupe and every trip I get 30-32 mpg at 70-75mph)
Great review and I agree with all your points! I have the 2020 Inspiration Edition and absolutely LOVE everything about my car. Also, the Climate Control System (Inside of Infotainment) has a function called "Concierge" mode. This is a "Set-It and Forget-It" mode that If enabled, will automatically control ALL of your Climate, Seat and Steering Wheel heat conditions based on the Temperature you have set on the display. The car will then monitor the inside and outside temps and adjust the Climate, Seats and Steering wheel Automatically to meet or maintain the temp setting you have applied. As an example, I live in the Atlanta, Georgia area, where on a Spring day it could be 40 degrees in the morning, but 80 degrees in the afternoon. In the morning, Concierge mode will turn the Seat and Steering wheel heat on, but in the afternoon, it will turn the Seat Cooling on. It will even control the level of seat heat or cooling that is needed and will step down from the Maximum as the comfort level conditions are met. This is all Automatic and is based on whatever the Temp is that you have set on the display. I love this mode and I NEVER have to touch anything other than the button on the panel to raise or lower the Temperature. Hope this helps!
Thanks much, Larry! I appreciate the info and was aware of it, however for those that enjoy lower-back heat separate from climate temps, it's still the cumbersome step to get there. Congratulations on your Inspiration Edition! Cheers!
I had a 2020 LC and I loved it. I eventually traded it in and got an R8 because it has always been my dream car but I do miss the Lexus (hence me watching this video). I was probably asked 20 times if it was an LFA as well lol. It pains me to hear that they did away with the V8 version. They are really screwing up all the good cars. Great review and it looks great lowered. I hated the center console. I actually broke it a month after I got it and I would have to replace the whole inside to fix it 😔
Thanks kindly! Funny, I had the R8 prior this car, definitely two different animals. We still have the V8 version LC500 being sold in the US, I didn't hear it went away in other parts of the world? Going on four years now with my LC500, still can't shake it! It compliments the F430 well (but the LC is more comfortable, ha ha). Cheers!
Thank you! It would be a very short video as luckily, I've experienced no issues at all with this car aside from normal wear & tear items (tires mainly). Several of my services at the dealer were also covered under an extended service plan on my car. If you've owned a Lexus before, you'll know just how wonderful their service/customer care is. Other brands need to learn from them. Insurance is on-par with competitors, and fuel consumption is better than anything else nearing 500hp. All in all, a very positive experience. :-)
@@UtahJohnnyL So true. My buddy owned a Lexus SC400 and I'm astonished about the fuel mileages. It gives almost 400 plus miles before he needs to fill it up. smh Love your input on this LC500. Enjoy it...

@@denvernuggets007 My GT gets crazy mpg like 32-36 on a highway or freeway
I had the 2018 LC 500 and loved. I hit a traffic barrel in a work zone and it cost $15,000 to get it fixed. The headlights are like $7,000 each and that Lexus symbol contains the radar which is also around $8,000 if needed to repair. Also, at 49k miles my parking gear went out. It was 4k to get it fixed. Good thing it was covered under warranty. I loved vehicle it was just expensive to fix if something happened to it.
Borrow a LC500 from my friend for a weekend roadtrip, one of the best cars I ever driven (coming from a huge 911 fan). Definitely getting a used one once car inflation dies down a bit.
Congrats on your ownership. Black would have been nice, but I think you got the better color as you get a better overall contrast. It is definitely under-rated. It may not be better in overall performance like some of the German choices, but to really see the real difference, you need to take to the track…and how many people do that in the real world. Plus overall the maintenance requirement is less with the Lexus.
After owning two black vehicles in my life id never purchase a black vehicle. Too hard to keep clean, shows every swirl, scratch. After a week of not washing the car it looks old. Looks like a big blob going down the road.
Ha, you and I should be friends lol. I bought my 2018 LC500 spec’d with the glass top, lowered mine the first month with RSR springs, went with BC Forged 21” all around, A few other things along with PPE exhaust (catless mid pipe) lol. Wrapped all chrome black. We’re like brothers now lol ✊🏾
I love your LC500 and your mods are very tasteful. I have seen some LCs where people do too much or put big spoilers and they look tacky. Great choice on the wheels!
Love this car! it's just perfect in every way I don't think any mods benefit this car though, it's a piece of art best kept in its original shape do you have any experiences with potholes? does it smooth out those as well?
Appreciate the input. Yes indeed, Utah roads are riddled with potholes. Some LC500's came stock with 21" wheels, other the 20's. You'll always get more rubber (tire profile) with a 20" but the 21's are not bad at all. As I mentioned in the video, I am old enough to NOT sacrifice the comfort with these great cars and adding the springs and wheels (which again are the same diameter as OEM, just different offsets), was a great improvement in my mind. Many professional auto journalists have reviewed these cars with positive accolades given. Many felt the suspension to be slightly soft (as it should be since it's a GT car), but adding the slightly firmer springs turns this car into a GT car with a sporty feel in the canyons. Everyone is different and have different desires/goals. ;-) Cheers!
This and the v8 c63 coupe are just something special. The sound and the comfort. Its not about going fast, its about cruising changing gears and hearing the pops and crackles. thats what you love more than performance.
Great looking car bro! The rims and chrome blackout makes it “pop”. I wasn’t a fan of the grill when Lexus came out with it. Reminds me of the Cylons from the original Battle Star Galactica show. But on that the LS500, looks perfect. I personally drive the German car you referenced with the “4xCircles”. Is that a radar detector? Just flash your ring 👮♀️. Lol. Jk. Stay safe!
It’s sad this car didn’t sell too well because it discouraged Lexus from making this car a bigger deal with a longer future. It’s an AMAZING CAR. We were robbed of the LC F because of those low sales That would have been epic. Once this car market cools down I m buying one of these used. It’s the perfect car to buy with a few miles on it because it’s a Japanese car at the end of the day
It is a shame but the looks weren't a familiar enough beauty and the performance wasn't stunning, glorious engine notwithstanding. They should've put the LFA's powertrain in this, made it a bit longer, and it would've been known as the "baby LFA". Instead they tried to emulate the Maserati Granturismo but they made it too small. The Japanese struggle with these matters, like Honda and the NSX uncertainty and confusion. It actually is a cultural thing.
@@cavaleermountaineer3839 I think they created a great car just as they did. Lexus just has a “boring old man brand” stink on them and so this car didn’t sell as much as it should have The quality on this car is excellent
It was meh in nearly all respects. It’s slow, the design is… interesting but not passion stirring. It’s style language is that it’s soft but not uber luxurious and it’s sporty but the performance is middle of the pack at best. To me, it’s a good sporty car for an old guy or lady.
@@dallasstang2818 this is a GT not a sports car really. It’s a car you can daily drive and be in luxury and comfort and when you find a backroad have a little fun
@@UrbanBDKNY I understand and in comparison to the luxury segment of GT cars, it falls short IMO. MB, Audi, and BMW (excluding all the top luxury brands) have GT cars that looks better and performs much better than the LC500. But it’s just my opinion. I’d take an MB SL500 or their GT C or even the BMW M4 or M6 coupes. Arguably, the oddball potential to keep value or become a sort of collector’s item would be the LC500 but I doubt it’ll become a classic anytime soon.
Thank goodness i found your channel, im trying to pick up a 2024 model here and I'm about to go out to test drive over the weekend. wanted to be sure it is a comfortable car at 6f4 and u being 6f5 cleared that for me.
Thanks for the detailed review Really like your mods too, particularly wrapping the chrome roof blades I had already planned on that 😄 Also did you get any tyre rub with the springs and wheel setup?
I just came across your channel and i love your car i just bought me one a month ago LS500 2024 Convertible and i love ❤❤❤❤ mine its absolutely beautiful and gorgeous one of the best car i ever bought Lexus r number one cars❤❤❤
Love the interior (the 2nd best I've seen in any car, with a Bentley having the best, in my opinion), love the side and front profile, love the engine and sound, not a huge fan of the rear view. Still I would buy one if I had the money! I would have a white exterior, like yours but with the ochre interior (I loathe black interiors). One of the biggest pluses is that it aint a car you see every day and are rare as hens teeth, that makes it special to me. (Oh, I have never seen one in real life, sadly). Nice to see a review of a long term ownership. Had to laugh when you called the paddle shifters 'flippers' - that's different!
White would be my first choice. Timeless design and magnificent engineering. Let’s not forget phenomenal Japanese reliable engineering. It is (not)funky! It is pure perfection.
My LS460 with a similar but smaller 4.6 liter from the same engine family will do about 28-30 mpg with its 8 speed automatic. It’s amazing how far automatics have gotten.
I’m looking to replace my older 2008 Lexus IS250 and getting these. Well, Maybe I should keep that older IS250 because it’s been super dependable. I am seriously looking at this LC500 or a new IS, but the IS500. Lexus, beautiful cars. They truly never age. Timeless
So happy to hear you're 6'5" and a big guy.. I just bought a 21 LC500 Convertible and it arrives in a couple days. Traded in an 06 Porsche 911 Carrera for it. Can't wait! I'm 6'3" and 270. I always say I'm built like a 70s wrestler (chubby but muscular haha).
thanks for sharing Johnny. I originally wanted an AMG GT specially the 2024 that is going to come out, then I also leaned towards a 911 Carrara S. I researched a lot about these cars. Thought they are fun, but reliability was a factor for me. I think I may go for a 2024 LC500, and hopefully I would keep it for a long time.
I am trying to buy one this week. But I am torn between the 2024 Jaguar F-Type and the 2024 Lexus LC500 (has the new touchscreen infotainment system). I test drove both and I like both cars. The LC500 was extremely luxurious and comfortable with great speed....it is a GT afterall. The F-Type was luxurious as well but had more of a sports car feel to it. Tough Decision.
I own a 2021 in infrared . In my opinion you made it look much worse with those ugly black rims. The original ones look awesome. Why would you want to make the ride stiffer? It is a very comfortable grand tourer with the stock setup. If you want a stiff gt car just get an AMG GT like the one I traded in for my LC500. That thing was punishing after an hour or so behind the wheel. I can drive the LC for hours with no fatigue. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
my dream car, i just wish by the time i graduate and get the money for such a masterpiece of a car that it's still in production and i can buy it. even if something better comes out, it still wouldn't be the same...
Only you can make that determination! 😜 see if you can take a LC500 on an extended test drive and really feel it. It's definitely more of a GT car but they are amazing! Best of luck, either way, your RC is an amazing car as well! 👍🏼
Great looking LC. Also, just found your channel and just going by titles & thumbnails- man do you have some interesting videos, now I can’t wait to watch! Lol.
Wanted to change my corvette C5 so I short listed few models such as lotus evora, 911, corvette C7, jaguar F type. I discovered the LC500 which I did not know. When to see a 2018 LC500H with 36 months garantee and Signed it right away after seeing this beauty in real 😀 will take delivery of the car next week
Hi Johnny. Thx for sharing the video. Glad to hear you still enjoy the LC after 2 yrs. I don't suppose you remember the brand of your cellphone holder? Thx
I want this car to be "underated" to the greatest extend of the word. This will semi-help its cost as used car despite the inflating used car prices nowadays.
It's one of the most gorgeous coupes ever created. And your specific LC500..is a SUPERB example. Possibly the most beautiful car I've ever seen, that doesn't cost $1m+, if I'm being honest. The downside is that it's "slow" relative to it's pricetag and appearance. As an example, modern Mustang GT's or V8 Camaro's are significantly faster for less than half the price. But if you can get past that and realize it's not a race car or even a sports car, but instead a well built, reliable, beautifully sculpted Grand Tourer, then you should be happy. Just don't try to race anything that looks at all sporty.
Thanks Kevin, appreciate the feedback and compliment on the car. A few things to add. First off, this is a GT (Grand Touring) car, not a sports car and it really shouldn't be compared to other sports cars as such. The good news is, for a GT car, the car is amazingly responsive and most certainly not "slow" when put in the hands of an experienced driver that has had ample seat time and knows the car well. My background includes formal driving schools and I understand dynamics of such. I've taken part in a few rallys and some non-official driving events (of course, in closed courses in Mexico ;-) ) and the car has always amazed me and other German and Italian car drivers I have been with. In essence, don't get wrapped up in numbers on paper, real world experience is accomplished with seat time and experience. Would this be a car I would buy solely for track purposes? Most definitely not. Would this be the car that accomplishes 92% of what most people desire and use day to day in a beautiful way? Most certainly is. No disrespect to the Mustangs and Camaros out there, but they, like some other brands out there, are a dime a dozen and blend in with everything else. Personally speaking, I enjoy attending car meets and being the only LC500 there. It stands out and the compliments it receives is indicative of it's uniqueness. Cheers Sir! 😉
@@UtahJohnnyL I hear you bro. It's just my $38k (brand new) DD F150 SUPERCREW 4x4 runs a similar 1/4 mile on e85 tuned which is kinda sad fo $100k+ sports coupe. My fun car is a 2017 mustang GT, whipple Supercharged 800hp. Again that LC500 is a work of art, but just understand it ain't fast by today's standards. Typical Lexus
LC 500 ... probably definitely in my dream car garage, and it will outlast the apocalypse because its a Lexus... I would have mine in black or dark green...🤤🔥 looks really good in dark colours
Thanks Johnny. Wish I could tell you the brand, simply can't remember and my installer has switched brands. I think it may have been Suntek and wasn't anything too crazy dark, like 30% ish.
Your pie chart analogy is an excellent viewpoint. Adding the incredible Lexus dealership experience slice is a key differentiator in my opinion. Have you taken your LC500 to a Lexus dealership for any service, even though you purchased it from a non-Lexus dealer?
Nice review, Johnny. I recently test drove a LC500 convertible at SLC Lexus. Didn't have a WOW takeaway :(. I'll be renting a coupe in Chicago for a day to get a proper evaluation.
Too many people driving down the road with their eyes on the screen, just trying to do simple things that at one time were easy to do with your eyes on the road! I will be replacing my IS 350 F-Sport and purchasing an LC once the wife's 23 RX in paid for.
I know several people that own much more expensive and exotic comparable cars, and their reviews after two years are not nearly as favorable. The dependability and maintenance cost are usually the primary reasons. LC 500 is a fantastic value IMO 👍
You are the most suitable owner of the vehicle. Tall, a US resident and loving the car. I know a Japanese automobile journalist who has the convertible version of this car and hates it. He is a short guy who lives in Japan complaining car is too much for him and the Japanese road. Sounds terrible for his profession yet guy is popular there for reasons I don’t understand. The car is most suited for big American road and big guy like you. I’m glad to see you loving it. Hope you keep it forever because the car really suits you.
The design is fantastic. It really looks like a concept brought to life. Similar to the feelings I get whenever I see the new Supra. Impeccable build and luxury with a v8. Give me that over a Tesla any day 😅
Just a few things...as reliable as a Lexus? haha, wishful thinking and second, I hope people will stop doing these reviews I want the price of these things to come down so I can afford one.
Well, ur right, brother. But it’s MY opinion! LoL! But Lexus has unfortunately never built a better car since that original LS model. And I’m completely bummed by this. Because they came out with such a strong initial showing back in 1989. But again these ARE only my opinions. Although the thing I said about Lexus never having built a better vehicle since after that original LS well that is 100% spot on truth. They spent nearly a billion dollars on the research, refining and building of that original LS model. But it was good having the chat with you brother. Wish you the best.😁😎👍✌️
Should've twin turbo the v8 as what was supposed to be the LCF that was never produced haha. Beautiful car man. Will take this or RCF over any American muscle anyday with that Yamaha co-developed engine.
I've never had the issue, but am aware some have. It's a fix handled by Lexus by just replacing the front pads with those of a different compound if I understand correctly.
Nice video. Your car looks AMAZING. Love the LC 500 and looking at a 2024 model since it has the updated infotainment system without the dreaded trackpad 😁
how u doing sir . Just got my Lc 500 2018 . I have the performance package and would like to get my suspension and carbon fiber done like u did . Can u let me know if u used spacers or no? Also in case i need to drop the suspension a bit . What coil overs did u use Ana’s how much do they cost ?
