Can we all take a moment and give Magic Mike a shoutout? Always a smile on his face even when bent over that goofy Lambo with a flashlight in his mouth. Cool dude.
He’s gonna be bent over the Countach again for SOME reason. ...Hoovie said something bad about it in a video - again - after it performed FLAWLESSLY in California. Check the last Mercedes video. Cars get jealous.😡
I know the aircooled rabbit hole far too well. If it was a coupe I would probably go all in, but on a rough chopped up targa/now convertible I would just fix the head studs and enjoy it for what it is.
@@dougsisk619 I saw someone talking about Hoovie blowing up his ls in a random 996 ls swap thread, and my first thought was, "Did he take it to the track with the stock oiling set up and blow the engine that way? That's the most common way people blow up ls motors, he should know better than that." Sure enough lol
This video is inspiring. I'm in the assembly process of my LS swap of my 1982 DeLorean that also includes a frame-off restoration. What a great sounding 911/LS you have and it moves very fast!
My beater Escalade EXT has been doing the random "full heat" thing too, with the only fix being to turn it off/open the door/restart the car to get it to work properly again. My ears really perked up when Wizard mentioned the fix, thanks for the practical advice fellas
My 04 Tahoe did that too. The only fix was exactly what you mentioned. Was super annoying to have to pull over randomly to do that song and dance. I knew it was the blend door but I never felt like taking it apart to actually fix it since it was so infrequent.
@@zachelliott9231 Pretty much every vehicle post 97-ish is plagued with blend door problems. Some worse than others, but unexplained heat is usually this since we don't put valves on the heater circuit anymore.
I would stick with the minimum for the Porsche, body is too tatty for it to warrant a mega engine build! Have an old Porsche you're happy to drive anywhere and park anywhere
@Peter Bailey: Now that would be the sensible thing to do. But I believe Hoovie asked what we thought HE should do. And honestly, I bet he’ll end up spending 5-figures to have a built engine in this old targa “bastard”, then he will drive it for a few weeks while being really happy with it, then become bored with it and sell it off to someone at a huge discount and lose big $$. Mind you, there’s a reason this has come to be known as the dumbest automotive channel in all of RU-vid..
What a beautiful relationship between you and the wizard. Glad to see he's been able to branch off of your success! He deserves it! As do you Hoovie! Thanks for the years of entertainment!
It's certainly an improvement on TG USA, but still an obvious attempt to copy TG UK, except I don't think Americans can be as rude to each other as Hammond, May and Clarkson are without someone pulling a gun!
I can feel Magic Mike’s frustration emanating from that lambo, as a technician I know that feeling of a car that just will not go away with annoying issues, makes you wanna smack your head into a wall every time you see it pull in the lot lol
1000% this. Carbs aren't Tyler friendly, and modern EFI is so, so much better. A good tuner will have the car starting like a modern honda and running better than factory.
I have nothing else to say except "Anderson Dick" is a great name. Everyone should have a last name as their first name and a phallis for their last name.
Why do you think putting a fueltech on this would just suddenly make it a fuel injection car? You'd spend 5-10k just to buy all the pieces to convert it before you could even put ANY stand-alone on it.
I love how Hoovie has a entire section of the wizards warehouse. That's what I call car goals because if I was in his position I'd probably be doing the same thing.... minus being smart enough to make money on it lol
IKR! I feel old… 😅 it was fun to be there when it all happened though! Except for the stolen Mercedes. That wasn’t fun. And of course when grandma passed away. Boy, I think I know more about Hoovie and his cars than I know about my family! 😂
Out of all the vehicles that are or have been on this channel, my favorite ones would be Suburban, Escalade, Sierra, ML55, Hummer H1 & H2, E60 BMW M5, Excursion, G20 Conversion Van, Express Conversion Van, Alpina B7, Rolls Royce, Ferrari, and even the Lexus LX470
@@lepepus I knowwww, it's just there's only so few auto body welders and masters that could pull off a roof swap, it's really an art. Not only that, but it could take several months to get it right to factory fitment
I have to thank this channel, i rarely comment on stuff in youtube but seriously you are great, you keep me in touch with my automotive side and are one of the reasons I bought my Supra MK2 project car. I hope all goes well with Apollo 911 and hopefully we see it in cartrek some day, keep on hooptin Hoovie~!
Absolutely love how wholesome and knowledgeable the wizard and his staff seem to be in these videos. The stuff on his channel reflects the same things. I think I'll comment something similar on one of his vids ☺️ Thanks for the awesome content Hoovie, keep it up!
Anyone know where wizard got all his knowledge about cars? It really inspires me on how smart he is about any car that he touches. This is the guy that you talk to and say yeah he knows everything about cars
I'd guess experience and a general knowledge of how cars function is the biggest thing. I've got a friend like the wizard, no shop though, but he can pretty much figure out anything about any car, and fix about anything on the side of a highway. That or he and the wizard are just the same breed of human who can speak to machines lol.
Three things 1: love your channel 2: go minimal on the targa because it’s been hacked to shit 3: the moon is almost 240k miles away so the 911 only made it TOO the moon, not back yet.
I had a vehicle with a persistent belt squeak...it drove me mad. We tried so much; tensioners, different belts, idler pully, sprays. Finally we found out the belt with "cloth type" backing was the fix because it was squeaking on the backside against the smooth pulleys. Food for thought. I don't know what's been tried.
uhm, but just because you found a material to get rid of the squeaking doesn't mean you fixed it? there must've been a reason, a misalignment, to cause the squeak in the first place?
@@taunuslunatic404 Nah we had a stethoscope. The belt we replaced it with was the OEM from the dealership. The problem was the standard AC Delco belts we rubber only while the OEM had integrated cloth into the backside of the belt it's self.
As a British guy, I keep seeing the Merkur Scorpio in the background. They were sold in Europe as Ford Granada Scorpio's. I'd say they're pretty rare in the USA.
My Dad was always swapping Ford Granada engines into Ford Cortinas when I was a kid. His work shop was always full of them. Now I haven't seen one for well over 10years
I was shocked to see it too in Wizard’s shop. I actually saw one a few weeks ago irl and a week before a Merkür Xr4ti in the same place! What are the odds of finding 2 random Merkürs from the 80’s in the same parking lot within a week!
I missed this car man, I remember all those years ago, I was one of those guys that unsubbed when you sold her lmao I resubbed soon after, but the loss of Apollo 911 was real. I'm so glad you were right and I was wrong, like they all say "if you love something, set it free, if it comes back, it's yours"
I like when Tavarish poured his heart and soul into those few unbelievable builds. I think a lot of people do. That's why Cleetus is doing so well! I wouldn't want to speak for anyone but, if my vote counts, I would enjoy you going crazy on that 79 Porsche.
@@PatTheCarNut fyi, Ed Bolian literally said that he wanted to do something like a top gear. So yeah, you are not opening nobody's eyes with your "car track is a rip off"
I like that S/C 911. A few years back I considered selling all my stuff to get one. Since this one has been cut up, I’d keep the engine basic and enjoy as is. Frankly, that’s about the only way I’d ever be able to get one - as a hooptie. Happy to know they exist.
Always interesting to snoop the background vehicles in the Wizard's shop. I recognize 2 that I used to own back in the day. The e21 3 series and what appears to be a blue Merkur Scorpio. Loved those cars. had an Xr4Ti as well. I also own a Raptide Blue Suburban, couldn't justify the Escalade then. Never knew what to call that color but I got many compliments on it.
The full boat 911 engine only makes sense if you are going to take the car back to a targa rather than the terrible cabrio conversion. Since you don't want to do that then go with the cheapest engine option. Is that a Merkur Scorpio in the background?
I would do a top-end refresh on the targa and sell it. meaning refresh the heads, do new timing bits, get it mechanically sound and not smoking and then just let it go
I would do the minimum. You've already "been there done that" with a mint air cooled 911, and dumpling all that money into a worse example won't make a better experience. I still would love to see it EV swapped.
man your guys first cars where so much nice then mine. all i got was a 94 nissan sentra that lived on the coast of maine, had the paint peeling off and most rubber rotting off it..
Dude...the stationary camera on the curve with the acceleration and shifting took me back to Steve McQueen in his Bullitt mustang...just need to double clutch speed shift that beast....awesome 👌
hey hoovie if the ls3 dies again from bearings being starved of oil, try getting the drysump version of the engine out of the manual grandsports unless thats what the other guy did, havent finished video yet
I really love the blue on that Escalade. Glad to see the Apollo 911 back in action, too. I'm sure Porsche purists hate it with a bloody passion, but I can't help digging it. Seems like an LS swap is always the answer to our high performance requirements. As for the 911 'Cabrio', without its Targa hoop that chassis is probably very flexy, so I don't think it's worth messing with. I'd just part it out.
Damn Hoovie this is got to be the best one yet that car is f'n awesome now I want a LS swapped 911 so proper!! Wizard is really a Wizard with his purple gown and his trident of power you guys killed it !! Needs 2 go viral!!$$#
Apollo 911 got me to subscribe...wasn’t a fan of the ls conversion, and I was sad to see you sell it, but am glad you got it back, and happy your channel has grown the way it has.
1:21 "You'll be the first person to be stab......". That scene immediately remind the scene about somebody who got machete to death after accidentally bump into captain "afraid of heights". 😂😂
@Dominick not my job to explain anything we all know projects work don’t do into anything with your eyes closed and you won’t be surprised, well most of the time anyway lol
If it were me I would probably do the head work. Make sure the top end is all good and sound. Idk about the carburetors though, fuel injection is much better for tuning. And to make this thing last as long as possible and be reliable I would think leaving fuel injection, maybe better aftermarket lines and injectors. Tuning is the most important part of a car. That is coming from someone who has owned a 2005 Subaru STI for 8 years and now a Mitsubishi Evo X. Good luck Hoovie, make sure to give Car Wizard and his wife a big hug for all their help. :)
Gonna admit I don’t know how I feel about the sound of the ls swap. It’s cool and all but it’s a base shout as opposed to a second tenor scream which is what I think fits a Porsche better. But its still cool nonetheless.
You pretty much changed Wizards life to be fair. Without all the attention and money you dumped into his business I doubt he would be out so quick out of that tiny shack he was working in before.
Apollo 911 was my introduction to you. You talked about it when you guested on The Smoking Tire podcast and I went down the Hoovie rabbithole. I can't believe it's been 5 years. 😮
🤩🤩Hooviesgarage I say do the middle job! There are less and less non precious porsches everyday. Please just make it roadworthy but in a way that someone will actually USE IT!!!
