Lumbar puncture yesterday for suspected MS. Arrogant Dr, hit a few nerves but im glad its over. My entire body has a headache right now and i cant sleep or do much.
Hi.sjoe this does not sounds like a walk in the park. I had it done years ago in high school due to meningitis but luckily so far with my MS journey it is just MRI. and must say headache with meningitis is not a joke so any other pain is nothing compare to the pain in your head and neck. I am so sorry that you had to do the lumbar puncture multiple times! I only had it done one time but the doctor did have to go in twice in the same session, since they weren't able to get the fluid out with the first tap. It was super uncomfortable and lasted around 30 minutes, but I definitely don't regret doing it. My results show no oligoclonal bands \o/
Thanks Isabella, certainly want fun! Yes yours sounds a lot easier than mine but still not totally straight forward. But yes it’s definitely worth it to find out more about the disease. What did that mean for you that you had no bands, did it rule you out of having MS?
@@tomgarbett77 I was still diagnosed in november since they found some lesions in my brain and one in my spine. I am currently on Tecfidera for my DMT. What my neuro said about the absence of bands is that it's a good thing, since it indicates a "milder" and less active version of MS, and it could mean that it won't progress. Fingers crossed, my next MRI is in May.
@@isabelablucher Ah right, well that's good news! I was positive in both the CSF and the Serum and I've still not had an explanation from the neuro about that! I'm also still waiting to hear from him about what treatment I will go on and it's been 4 months since I last saw him and he wanted to get me on something quickly back then so I'm getting really frustrated with all that 😫
@@tomgarbett77 oh no! I am so sorry it's taking that long, hopefully you'll be able to talk to him and get on a treatment soon! I can definitely imagine being frustrated about it.
@@isabelablucher Yes I am frustrated, but I'm also feeling so healthy from the diet and lifestyle changes that I've made, that it has made me a bit calmer about it and wondering fi I might be able to do it all on my own without the need for the drugs... But then also think it's not worth taking the risk of turning down the drugs at this early stage either!
Hi...I had my lumbar puncture....the after experience was so painful...the head ache, vomiting....diarrhea...I wasn't able to eat and drink anything for a week....it felt as if I have committed a suicide.... Don't get it done...listen to your body...all is going to be good...
Wow your experience sounds horrible! Luckily although mine was very uncomfortable during each procedure, I always felt fine afterwards and only had a very mild headache. I did have a sore back for a while after as well but that was all. Are you coping well in general with your MS?
@@tomgarbett77 I live near woods......and my house has ticks..and when I got my blood tests done...my igm was high....it made me little suspicious...moreover I am not having any symptoms...just enjoy your life...eat healthy...exercise and no stress
@@sushmasharma-jh1cl That sounds great that you are symptom free... And I completely agree you've just got to enjoy life and eat well, exercise and stay away from stress. Those are three of the biggest factors that everyone can do themselves to combat MS or similar autoimmune problems!
I had this 3 weeks ago. Testing for ms. I was peterfied I was on my own. Doctor had me leaning over a table put anesthetic in which was fine then tryed twice with lumber. He went in and this hot pain down my leg. He took it out then made me lie on my side. 3rd time lucky went in same feeling down left side was burning nerve pain but not a pain u would scream out. Was just really uncomfortable. He said okay we got it just wait won't be long. Then after he took needle out pain calmed down and lie for an hour. Then was okay to leave hospital. Got home pain in back kicked in then pain in my ear weirdly sharp stabbing pain crackling also. Back was tender just felt badly bruised. I still not heard any word of my results. But did say take 6 weeks. But it isn't pleasant but it was okay. For me anyway.
Mine was the same way. Is there a difference in the way it's done that would make a difference. I always see people sitting up slightly bent over. I was lying on my stomach.
Yeah I really don't know, I think it comes down to the skill of whoever is doing the lumbar puncture, because I have heard of some people who are in and out in minutes and then difficult ones like mine!
