Remember when you order the iMac you can order a color-matching trackpad that is only available now at time of order! Plus if you want an extended keypad keyboard also at time of order for an extra $30.
New iMac isn't have ton of ports like previous generation iMac, and I have prediction if next time, maybe Traditional ports will be fully Replaced by USB C and if want more ports just use Dongle
I know DVD,s and CD,s don’t get used much these days but I’m surprised you didn’t add an optical DVD drive. It was the first thing I bought for my IMac as I had lots of old camcorder footage on DVD,s I wanted to back up onto my Mac
@@JerrySchulze I just bought the Apple one, I think it was 90 euros. One thing people should know about it though is it has the old usb connection so you need an adapter for the IMac
This is my first MAC and I got the entry level iMAC in blue. The screen and speaker quality on this machine are amazing. The iMAC has a headphone jack but headphones was not covered in the discussion on accessories. The internal speakers provided sound amazing, not sure additional external speakers are necessary especially if you already have a home pod mini. The accessory I bought for my iMAC is one of those USB hubs that have the 3 USB, micro SD, standard SD, and USB C ports built in. The hub clamps onto the base of the computer and can be colour matched to your machine. The one is have is by SATECHI.
I just bought my own M1 iMac - the thing I am trying to figure out is where can I get a cover for the keyboard? I cant find anything online. do you know of anything? PS - thanks for the video its very well made.
If you want to or need to save the money then an external drive is a great solution for a desktop computer. If convenience is more important than by all means go for the extra storage.
PS @ MacSales (ie OWC) sell both Apple, OWC & Belkin USB-C cables at a discount (see their “Specials” category/section). Since my wife & I have several MacBook Pro’s and Air’s from 2012 => 2019 having adapter cables is a given. For our Micro-B external drives it’s easier to have USB-C to Micro-B cable than using an adapter! OWC has an excellent USB-C to Micro-B USB 3.1 Cable - White ( wife hates black cables) for under $8. Cheaper than any dongle. Nice Father’s Day gift
I don't care about the mouse or keyboard. Those are incidental concerns. The real issue is IT DOESN’T HAVE PORTS for my laser printer, my ethernet connection, my 2.0 hubport or all my usb 2.0 flashdrives. I want to be able to easily transfer pages, music, photos, movies etc. and without any immediately utilizable ports, I can't do anything. Who knew that I would be denied something so essential.Your recommendation? The Caldigit ts3 thunderbolt dock? It costs $300. Perhaps you might include that information. What am I supposed to do?
There are other alternatives like the CalDigit SOHO which is about $80 on amazon right now. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6r_3bW1y4jI.html
Jerry, great and informative video. I am getting a MI Imac with 500gm SSD internally . Was wondering, is it possible to use a thunderbolt external ssd drive to run the current operating system from? I don't see much about his and was wondering if you had any insight. Thanks
Hi thanks for watching. Yes, you can boot from an external drive but don’t know that I would recommend it. The internal ssd is faster than you can get within thunderbolt and most thunderbolt drives will heat up and slow down a little.
My older led cinema display wont connect to the mac as a second screen. Which screens are compatible? I have a 27 inch mac display just sitting here because it wont connect smh
Hi Jerry I have multiple large external drives some with USB 2/3 how can I use all of them? I havent bought my New Imac yet Im still using my old iMac but Im worried I cant use my Scanner also as I am scanning hundreds of photos any advice would be great...
I have a M1 iMac and and a WD Black P50 4TB external SSD (USB gen2x2, 2000MB/s), but iMac seems don't support USB gen2x2, is there anyway to unleash the speed of that drive on iMac? which thunderbolt 3 dock can support USB gen2x2? thank you!
Usb standards are a mess and I believe the 2x2 is a very new standard and I’m not even sure that USB4 uses it. I googled and found a few socks but I don’t know any of them. Msi has one maybe worth checking out.
Thanks for letting me know about the hight before my iMac came , I am 6 feet so I know I would of been looking down and getting mad for only seeing the top of the screen eye level then the middle lol
Hey Jerry, Does this docking station work for a macbook air 2020 m1 connecting it to 2 external monitors and using the extend feature so every screen is separate?
No the M1 will only work with 1 external display unless you use a dock with DisplayLink which virtualizes a graphics card and uses your cpu. The dock supports 2 displays but the computer must also support it.
Have you tried attaching a super drive to your iMac m1 I tried it using a hub and cannot get it to work if you have please tell me how neither apple support or Best Buy geek squad were able to help...thanks
I'm planning to buy this iMac for Trading Purpose. So I just wanna ask that base version with 8GB RAM would be enough for smooth work experience or should I go for high end version ?
4:03 don‘5 buy the spacegrey Magic Trackpad 2. Rather choose the Magic Trackpad 3 for $50 more instead of the Magic Mouse + yours will be also colormatched to your iMac
Which is better, the Magic Mouse or track pad. I recently bought an IMac and went for the mouse but it isn’t great to use for long periods of time ( not very ergonomic at all ) looks lovely but not great to use
@@johnoneill192 I know. The Magic Mouse has some cool features, but if you need to choose between both. Get the trackpad. I'm a perfectionist, so I need both 💀
While I'm waiting for my new iMac to be delivered, I only have one question. With my current setup, I have several external hard drives connected to me iMac via a USB hub. I'm planning to upgrade to a USB that connects the new iMac with a thunderbolt connector. However, I'm wondering if there is any benefit to also replacing my cables that connect my external hard drives to the USB hub? Or will this result in no increase in transfer speeds?
A USB DAC with support for Mac volume buttons?? What is this madness? My speakers were around $170 but bizarrely are now worth $200. They plug into the headphone jack but I’ve put an audio interface with an excellent built-in DAC between my Mac mini and speakers so I can share the speakers with a PC. The PC plugs in through analog, but I have it all tuned to where each computer sounds as good as if it were connected directly. I have a software solution I would use to let me use the Mac volume controls if I needed to, but for now, my Mac and PC output roughly the same volume and I can change it with touch controls on the right speaker, so I prefer to do that.
The interface I chose is rather inappropriate for what it’s doing: the Apollo Solo Thunderbolt was $650 including all the cables I needed, so a bad pairing for such a “cheap” speaker system, but very well built, great sounding, with a good headphone jack so I can plug in AirPods Max to share Mac and PC audio, or let my PC hear audio out of my Mac for DJ visuals purposes. It works very well for me!
@@JerrySchulze If you already have an Apple Superdrive, would you be so kind as to check if this works? It is too expensive just to buy it and find out it does not... Also, Mose is a brand or something?
Hi Jerry. I've watched your videos on the new iMac M1. Brilliant thank you. I have just bought the iMac M1 base model, and now find I need adapters to connect both my old brother printer and a Apple usb superdrive to play any dvd's on. both of which have the normal size usb connectors not the lightening connectors As much as I would love the buy the Caldigit my budget just can't stretch that far. Can you please recommend a budget version or perhaps a single connector type that I can plug in when I need to use either of them. Thank you very much. 🙂
I am using the MX Master 3 & dongle with my PC but will change to my spiffy new 24" M1 iMac (Green) when it come in. I see there is a Mac version of the Master 3. Is there much difference? Should I have any concerns? Great video.
How does a thunderbolt DOCK designed for charging a laptop through the same cable it’s communicating though work on a desktop? I want the functionality of a dock but I am worried about ruining my computer as I assume that a desktop isn’t designed to handle power through the thunderbolt ports. Thank you!!
The dock does not send power unless the device requests it. Desktop computers or laptops powered by another power source will not pull power from the dock.
@@JerrySchulze this is so helpful! I’ve been leaning towards the Anker dock because it has HDMI but I wasn’t sure if the powered docks would work. Thank you!
@@JerrySchulze I see two different ones i plan on purchasing and maybe you can help me narrow it down it’s between the SAMSUNG UE57 Series 28-Inch 4K UHD (2018) version it’s not the one in your video but similar for $269 or Samsung 27-Inch Class Monitor M5 Series - FHD Smart Monitor (2020) for $229
@@dekynpeters5774 I really would stay away from 1080. Text is going to look 10000 times better on the 4k. I am running a 27 4k now with scaling to 1440 and looks great!!
I used the Magic mouse and MX Mater, then I tried a light gaming mouse (Razer Viper Ultimate) and wow, never going back to heavy mice, really comfortable. No support on Mac OS, but it works just fine.
I always enjoy these accessory videos. I'm going to stick with my 2019 27" iMac ... for now. My question is: Would you recommend that Samsung display to work with an M1 MacBook Air? I'm not sayin' I'd get it, I'm just sayin'.
Hi Mike, I have been using this display with my M1 Pro for some time. 11.4 seems to have solved most of my display issues and it works well. There are a lot of displays in the 250-400 range so there are plenty of options.
Another great video, I notice that you never mention external spinning hard drives with the CalDigit docks. I have a lot of external drives that I’d like to use. I have both the CalDigit TS3 Plus and the CalDigit Thunderbolt 4 dock unused and just waiting on gathering enough money for the new M1 iMac. I have both USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 external drives that I use for long term storage.
You should have no issue with external spinning disks and any speed issues from the M1 would be imperceptible with spinning disks. Thanks so much for watching.
@@JerrySchulze Great to hear! There looks like there's actually a dedicated version for Mac with no receiver and usb-c charging. Different colour too! Hoping you can compare them!
@@okaynoice they are the same except for color and the non Mac version has the usb receiver option. I like that better than Bluetooth. Other than that they are the same.
Question: My new imac M1 does not have USB ports. Just 4thunderbolts. I need to attach my flash drive that has USB plug. How do I hook it up without any USB ports on my new imac? Anyone can answer....Thank you😃
@@JerrySchulze Thank you😃 Jerry. I guess I’m learning that my knowledge is very slim. I had to look up dongle and dock. I’m not sure 🤔 what they mean yet. I need more hands on experience with Apple products. It all seems so very expensive the added features that should have came with Computer. Or gave suggestions what is needed before buying it. Thank you😃
@@BrigitteCoffman just got my M1 24" last week....try a Sandisk Ultra Dual Drive Go USB Type-C...it worked for me. Drag the document/file/photo to Dual SanDisk. I am so very new to an Apple iMac...hope that helps. 128GB was like $16
May check out the hub as looking for one when I upgrade to the new M1 iMac - current iMac I have is a late 2019 version. Can you confirm that 2 or more external drives can be accessed at the same time with this hub? I use a couple external drives to store media and photos etc and one copies to the next drive as a backup.
@@JerrySchulze if being small and stylish is your thing. Yes it is great. But when compare to the feel and speed of many mechanical gaming KB on the market. IMO. The feel and performance Is not even close Anyway. Good work.
