The amount of detail, time, and energy you put into this video shows you care about your work as well as the viewer experience; amazing job brotha!!! Love the intro and visualization on the city, and slow zoom in on your set up. To answer your question, and maybe it's a bit of being "conditioned" or a psychological effect, I personally prefer the direct look into the camera. For me; 1. It's more of an engaging connection when someone is looking directly at me, sharing information in a "1 on 1" setting. 2. It does throw me off when you're looking past the camera, and me as the audience, knowing that there's no one there physically lol. With that being said, there's very minimal rules to follow when it comes to creativity, and whatever YOU feel most comfortable with; go for it! I applaud you for trying something "different," and I hope to see more content! Nothing but respect out here in #Vegas

Hi Matthew, Thank you for this great content. I have bought the Behringer X Air Xr12, can you suggest a video to help with the set up and how to use audio hijack with the XR12? Many thanks Vic
@matthewTobrien
@matthewTobrien Год назад
Oh, Vic. I may be the bearer of bad news... I originally purchased the Air XR12 as well hoping I could do what I'm doing currently with my XR18 in my edit bay... I ended up having to return the XR12 because it didn't have USB connectivity with my computer and that USB connectivity was the key for getting Audio Hijack to see the mixer. The XR12 has a "USB Stereo Recorder" whereas the XR18 has a "Multi-Channel USB Audio Interface". That's the key difference between the two as it relates to my setup. I tried early on to use a separate USB audio interface with the XR12, but it was causing a bunch of feedback/delay issues when it was introduced between the XR12 and my computer. As far as videos go that help to set things up exactly how I have it...I'm not aware of any. I looked. I ended up having to FaceTime with my buddy Nick to have him pilot the ship and get it all set up because it was a bit too complicated for me at the time. I think it still is. There was quite a bit of setup using the Behringer apps (yes, there were two) to get all the inputs, outputs and busses figured out. Here's the video where I get it all up and running with Nick's help: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bEPpjuLibNU.html You'll even see the footage of the XR12 at the beginning - I can't remember if I mentioned having to return it for the XR18.

Hey Matthew, Great job on the studio and on the presentation of it’s completion. I am interested in putting together my own desk. Would you have the specs on the materials used on your setup that would share? I’m not much on construction so I have to ask, does this piping come precut or did you have to cut/trim it to size? And how did you attach the shelving underneath to hold the components? Thanks for all the work and effort you put into your videos. I watch them repeated to learn all kinds of tips and ideas.
@matthewTobrien
@matthewTobrien Год назад
I was trying to track down the specs for you, Michael, but I'll need to be back in the studio to do a breakdown of all the pieces I used. Just a quick overview: the desk top is 4 2x10s from Home Depot. The riser is one 2x10. I think they were twelve footers that we cut down to something close to 9-ish feet. Then the piping is all from Menards (way cheaper than Home Depot) and none of the pipes are cut - we used combos of them to get the desk height close dialed in to what I needed. Oh, we did use some 1x4s in zig zags across the bottom of the desk top to add more support. And we used a 2x6 that was 12ft long to run along the back of the desk to add more support so it wouldn't sway left and right. I also use that to mount a few small shelves to hold my sound mixer and a few other things. Hope that helps! I'll try to get breakdown of all the pieces and their lengths to you!

@@matthewTobrien Hey Matthew. Did you use 1" or 1 ½" black pipe for your table base? Are the legs two 12" connected together with a tee? Last question: What did you use to fasten your board to the pipe? I see the metal brackets but I'm not sure what keeps the board from sliding down when any weight is applied. Thanks for your ideas and videos.

Camera angle. So fascinating as I liked it but I was aware of it. Several times I had the thought that you were trying to give the illusion of talking to a person when in reality it was just a point of view decision. That made me consider the why of it and that led me to consider what you were thinking about your self image. Then I thought I needed to rewind to get all of the valuable information I had missed. I did think that being interviewed adds to a sense of your importance. Like someone had come to you to get your important perspective. (Which is what your viewers are doing but this facetiously "authorizes" you as you are not seemingly self imposing your expertise). Only we are aware of the "what's behind the curtain" aspect so it detracts ultimately from your credibility. (Even though your credibility is unassailable. So playing with this presentation method is just what it is... an exercise in creating, an informative exploration, an earnest approach to the next best practices paradigm. You are clearly an expert and sharing with us is invaluable. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. I want to shadow you in your studio to make all of the gems you share really sink in and if ever that were to happen then you really could be talking to someone off camera.

So, you come out of the Mac Studio HDMI to the 4x4 matrix. do all of your monitors plug into the outputs of the 4x4 and the Mac sees them as extended displays? I have a ultra wide and a tv i want to use in my recording studio. 1 mac studio, 2 monitors. Is the 4x4 the best way to go?
@matthewTobrien
@matthewTobrien 6 месяцев назад
I have the Studio Display and both Thunderbolt Displays connected directly to the Mac Studio via Thunderbolt. I then have an HDMI cable going from the HDMI port on the Mac Studio into the HDMI IN port on the Matrix and then an HDMI cable going from one of the HDMI OUT ports on the Matrix into the HDMI IN port on the Dell display above my center Studio Display. This lets me use the Dell display as a 4th monitor for macOS or as the A/V Output monitor for Final Cut Pro. I can also switch which input the Dell monitor receives so I can use my AppleTV with it to watch a movie, RU-vid, etc. The Matrix also allows me to output macOS/Final Cut Pro to my 55" 4K television if I want to watch playback from Final Cut Pro in my home theater. Are you saying that you want to connect your ultra wide display and your TV to your Mac Studio and use them as two displays? If so, is the issue that they both only connect via HDMI and the Mac Studio only has one HDMI port?

Are you using a video IO transmitter for your top broadcast monitor? Or are you also using thunderbolt straight from the Mac straight into the monitor? Only asking because when I utilize my broadcast monitor, the software begins to get sluggish. Im on a juiced out M2 Ultra Studio...People have been telling me I need a Blackmagic Ultrastudio 4K Mini to resolve this.

Top monitor is a 1080p Dell, and it connects to my Mac Studio via HDMI. The other displays (two Thunderbolt Displays, one Studio Display) connect directly via Thunderbolt. Zero issues using A/V Output and no lag or sluggishness at all. I’m not using the Dell as a reference monitor for color, though. It’s just there as a full screen preview for FCP, and I also use an HDMI Matrix so I can pipe in my AppleTV to it if I want to have a movie playing while I work. All of it has worked flawlessly for several years. Sorry you’re experiencing issues!

FINALLY found a using 3 apple monitors! I've have three thunderbolt monitors and want to run them in a tie fighter set up for coding/ productivity. The problem is I have a M1 Pro Macbook and they limit to using two of these monitors unless you go for the M1 MAX which is at minimum another $1000. 4 if you count the top display! Haha. The only real way around the limitation of the M1 Pro MacBook Pro is to use a docking station paired with Display Link Manager to use more than just two displays. I did a sponsored video for Anker a while back and their 563 Docking Station allows me to use my M1 Pro 14" MacBook Pro with 3 displays when I live-streaming. Check out the video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--J0EuFic_AY.html Let me know if you have any questions after checking it out.

@@matthewTobrien Thank you! I'd like to run three thunderbolt displays. These docks usually use HDMI/DisplayPort or are crazy expensive to where I might as well just return my laptop and get the base Mac studio with the max chip. I wish I could get DisplayLink to run on my macbook without a dock and override the ability to use 3 screens. I am honestly thinking of returning my laptop and getting a 2020 27" 5k imac. They don't have the ARM chips and will probably lose support in a couple years but for now it would get me the incredible 5k display and allow me to use my two thunderbolt monitors on the side in the cheapest way possible.

Experimentation is how we learn, so don’t put yourself down - plenty of other people may be ready to in life, but don’t be one of them yourself. My honest thoughts actually started with the lighting, I couldn’t see light in your eyes and the right side of your face was quite dark. Knowing you were shooting alone did throw me off. I actually think the best part for me was at the end when you (presumably) broke script and we’re just yourself and spoke directly to the camera. But the video is well produced, and makes me think how far away I am in so many aspects.
