Fall Fechten is a small in-house tournament at Cymbrogi, my local HEMA group. This is in some ways just practice for Geselle Fechten, our regional tournament in September. A lot of good fighters and a lot of good fights. Won a few rounds, lost a few rounds, but had a ton of fun that day.
Props to Levin Pace, Darrell Vannostran, and Derek Nash for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place respectively.

That reset in krieg/close measure is a nasty one. When fighters start in distance to easily hit each other, it's a race to see hits the other or covers first. Call me salty over a rule which wouldn't benefit me, but it seems unrealistic and means that tactical fighters like me will nearly always lose against fast fighters. Apart from that I found it funny how a world apart I noticed you like to keep your hand low very much like I do, though you use a German style thumb grip whereas I use a more hammer grip for Italian stuff. I love how you moved around (better than I do currently), though your actual attacks seemed like a single intention and then if the swords bind, you always push until there is hopefully some gap or you get hit. On that note, I'd love to spar with you considering I'd get a lot of bindwork practice when so many people annoyingly disengage at the slightest touch. My advice might be to extend your arms for a cut more, you seem to keep your arms close (which is good for avoiding arm injuries) but even when attacking and it requires you close in more and rather dangerously. Although, maybe if you practice charging and closing for those krumphaus and zwerchaus you German style fighters love, maybe you can control the fight and backpedal a scared foe thereby controlling the fight by ignoring my last piece of advice. I liked that disarm, even if you were the victim of it!

Thanks! We only reset in Krieg if the fighters get close where they're into a grapple or an exchange happens which there is no clear scoring action. Primarily we have to stop for safety, as fighting at this range can be dangerous. From there, fighters can close in or back off, or fight at that distance. But yes, it does turn it into a game of who's fastest. Hmm... extending my arms is usually something I'm pretty good at... this is something I will have to watch out for I guess. Don't want a bad habit emerging. I usually try to fence at my maximum reach, staying just out of reach (Zufechten) and doing a lot of fighting at the sword and in the bind rather than closing in into Krieg. Yes, Nathan is really good at fighting in Krieg, which is why he disarmed me TWICE! In a tournament setting, no less!
