This Empire style chair originates from some Russian 19'th century palace. At this time there were many good furniture makers in Russia. The exact origin is unfortunately unknown.

It never ceases to amaze me on how someone will do a sloppy job in restoring an antique piece of furniture. This is one of the main reasons i watch the channels that i do. You guys know what you're doing and do it well because you take the time to learn the proper techniques. If my grandmother was alive still she would have enjoyed this video immensely! The reason for that is because she started doing upholstery as her way of paying the bills. when i was born i spent so much time at her house just sitting there watching her work in fascination. It is an amazing thing to see! I just wish she was able to see you work. She passed just shy of her 101st birthday. God rest her soul. She did this work for just over 80 years before she stopped. This chair turned out absolutely stunning. I hope it goes home with someone who takes special good care of her.

With a staple gun and hot glue?
@elizabethmorsund4512
@elizabethmorsund4512 5 месяцев назад
I mean, obviously he was not trying to do a historically accurate repair, just trying to get the chair stable and looking more or less historically accurate. And he was doing the work for free. So I can see using staples rather than tacks, as they are faster and hold about as well. (Maybe? They probably rust faster, and possibly cut through the fabric in time?) Now, the hot glue most casual crafters might use would probably not hold up over time, and that trim might peel off fairly easily. But there are lots of different formulations of hot glue, and some are very durable, though I don’t know if they would be considered “archival”. Certainly hot glue sticks like that would not be historically accurate. But, he did achieve the goal of restoring the chair to working order and making it beautiful.

What a beautiful result for a delightful chair design! Your skill level suits the original design. May I ask the type of wood it was made from? It's a delicate-looking chair, but such a deceptively strong design! Your excellent skills lead to the beautiful results. I especially like how you created a polisher for the legs with a drill! Brilliant! My only disappointment: I wish you could have used a fabric similar to the original silk, which, in my humble opinion, suits the delicacy of the chair. I love how the old materials are ecologically friendly, just requiring a much more skilled artist. Thank you for sharing.

I don’t mean to say they are unmatched with you in the literal sense but rather I find the other three are a very different style of video. Would have been nice/better maybe to match up more ASMR style videos like yours, as I see a lot of people complaining about them all talking too much. But teaching is literally what their channels are for. They aren’t chit chatting about the weather. lol They are talking about what they are doing and why. Just seems like the styles are quite unmatched with THIS style of video. But I enjoyed all of them, in different ways. I dunno. My two cents.
