Top 3 killa Jonas 🔥🔥🔥. You're right that a record is only worth as much as someone will pay for it on the day. Have a Merry Christmas

Too true what you said Jonas. I don't think any of us as teenagers thought we'd have more records than our parents, say approx 50-100 that'd be normal but we aren't normal are we? I got Frances the mute when it came out but the sleeve has a small damage on the top side unfortunately, equally worse I sold the accompanying mint green 12" single by mistake. Similarly our cat wrecked some less valuable 1990s dance 12"s only afterwards I thought have some crap ones by the scratching post sprinkled with catnip. Anyway have a great Christmas/new year. Martin.

Its a insane hobby but I love it! =) Yes life takes it turns and all you can do is go along. My cat hasn't touched the records yet. no fires and no flood. Fingers crossed, right =) Have a great Christmas Martin!

A few years ago, I was handed a bag of about 15 records at the shop at the dump (yes, it exists in some British tip sites) All were in great condition and obscure psycadellic and progressive stuff. Looked them up on discogs with some having no sell history so emailed a couple of record shops. Took them to a very fair and reasonable dealer who gave me £100 for one (ora, self titled) of the records and good prices on the rest too.
@SublimMedia

That is a great story. Many of the people that did like you ended up being roped off by awful store owners. Glad you had a good experience and I bet the records went to new lovely homes.

Yeah ,I would love that Mighty baby album, if I see a re release around I will grab it, I doubt I could find or afford an original, oh maybe, who knows what will happen, probably my most expensive is Magic shoemaker by Fire or Aussie rock/ prog album Galadriel on Polydor, oh I have a fair few Vertigos fifty or sixty, and some rare Aussie stuff, the Archer by Band of light is fairly rare

If most Americans did this, they would get so confused, especially if they don't have any experience. The video and show 10 Beatles albums that are probably worth a dollar apiece. They would automatically think that they're trash copy of the Beatles White album is worth thousands of dollars...This is the main problem being a dealer here. Everybody thinks the most expensive records are the most common ones. Everybody's constantly thinking that I'm ripping them off when I'm not paying crazy money for trash Elvis records. That's why you see skyrocketed, "highest ever sold" data: Some big name records are almost impossible to find still sealed, it increases the value massively/exponentially. If it's not sealed it's gonna be on the low end of the spectrum.
@tblends
@tblends 2 года назад
"It has sold for" means someone sold a sealed one, just so you know. Perhaps one with signatures with proper provenance...
@SublimMedia

Yes probably sealed, signed or tax scam. 😀

The Will Malone is an amazing record.I remember you showing your purchase and the story behind how you acquired it was so compelling, that I would have bought a reissue anyway, even without hearing it first,because anyone who is that passionate about a record suggests that it just has to be investigated, and i'm very glad I did !. I like the Dr Strangely Strange but don't own a copy. I bought a Sainsbury's exclusive orange vinyl issue of Oddessy and Oracle a few years ago and agree that it is up there with Beatles and Beach Boys in terms of originality and songwriting. Hung up on a Dream is just incredible. Can't remember if I've heard Agitation Free or not. Jonas, this was a great video and nice to see those rare and collectible records. It's nice to have high value records but even better to have the sheer joy and experience of listening. Have a great Christmas.😉🙏🌲🌲🌲

So sad that record collecting has become about monetary value and not about the music. You guys are killing our wonderful hobby.
@SublimMedia
@SublimMedia 2 года назад
“You guys” and “our hobby”. Well. No it’s not only about value but I guess than when you have 2500 records that you have acquired over a lifetime some of them will cost more today than others. I’m not counting that as ruining the hobby. I bet you have records in your collection that I would be jealous of. Also I think all of these are released as reissues so if it’s just about the music the you are only a few clicks away to have the product 😀😀. Thanx for watching and commenting. A grumpy ney sayer is also welcomed.

@christopherpatefield6150
@christopherpatefield6150 2 года назад
@@voshche I have vinyl and cds but I do prefer vinyl. However I see beat up records being sold for high prices that back in the day no one would have thought of buying. We only bought second hand records if they were in pristine condition. At the moment records are being treated almost as antiques and I can't help thinking that this is a bubble that will burst eventually.
@SublimMedia
@SublimMedia 2 года назад
I have a hard time seeing that it will burst because there is nothing to really follow. Last time the cd was marketed as a superior medium but this time the comfort and quality is really hit the roof when it comes to ordinary consumer-joe and the people that put down hundreds in a record won’t sell that for lack of interest any time soon. But this is just my theory. Only future will tell.
@christopherpatefield6150
@christopherpatefield6150 2 года назад
@@SublimMedia When I go to record fairs and shops I see that the custom is overwhelmingly baby boomer and middle agers. This generation has caused a number of 'bubbles" as they passed through the years from stamp investing (total collapse) to beat group mania to vintage guitars (a big crash although still very expensive) and now buying the old records that they could not afford as teenagers. This market cannot last much longer as witnessed by the flood of Elvis records onto the market at the moment. The Beatles will be next. The Northern Soul generation fuelling the rare soul market bubble will follow. You might argue that young people are moving into vinyl but as far as I can see accordibg to a number of you tube videos they seem to collect new albums or reissues of common pop classics. They are not an investment market. Most of them have probably never heard of the artists that fetch premium prices. After all who today wants to buy rare Duke Ellington or Stan Kenton records? Of course I could be wrong but I see record investing as a bubble with a short shelf life.

the median price on Discogs is the one to go with - a lot of times the high price might have been because it was autographed or a low number of a limited release. sadly, it could also be an insurance scam where someone sells an album to themselves through another person at a very high price to get it appraised high and then claims it stolen or destroyed.
@SublimMedia
@SublimMedia 2 года назад
Yes the discogs prices I guess should be taken with a pinch of salt. But in my experience the median is what most go for regarding VG+ or better.
