He's bitching over non issues... He should have bought a civic type R.... He's bitching because he bought the wrong car. Every performance car has issues doesn't matter if it's a ford or Porsche... If you want reliable you buy a Toyota Corolla... If you want speed then you go in knowing you will need to pick up a wrench once the power train warranty runs out and you rip it, break it tgen fix it like a man... Not cry on RU-vid like a bitch... Fact is manuals accounted for 1% of new car sales... The fact that ford still offers one is a blessing and them really doing car guys a favor. Soon they won't offer them at all especially with idiots like this giving them shit on the internet...
Mustang Guru it is when i shift it, this thing actually has a whole lot of unneccessary travel, the bite point is halfway, idk what they were thinking with the manual in this car
Twister5.0 you could get an adjustable slave/throw out bearing and set the clutch engagement where you want it in the peddle travel. Myself I prefer the halfway up engagement
After three Mustangs in a row, I had a feeling that Ford engineering was missing something between the typewriter ticking and the trans wanting to jump out of the car. So glad I switched and got one of the last Challengers and my first Dodge. Got rid of my F150 while I was at it.
Right on! After 3 Mustangs and three F150s all bought new over the past 13 years I gave upon Ford and bought my first Dodge, the 2022 Dodge Challenger RT. After a year of driving, I could not be more pleased even with the extra markup I paid during the pandemic ending.
Is there any point to waiting for the 2021 Mustang GT? Will they finally fix the front end? I am doubtful because even the Mach 1 still has the 2018 front end on it.
Hey man when you were buying your car did you think of buying the ford performance short shifter because my uncle did with his 2020 and he has had no problems
I have had ZERO issues with my MT-82 with 24k on the odo...and it was ProCharged at 4K and now is VMP Gen3 since around 16k. It’s also a 17....it does seem like the powertrain “weakened” after the 18 updates.
Wow u didn't upgrade the tranny to something reliable and stronger yet? That's impressive. I was gonna get the manual cause I wanted to boost it but there's too many people have issues with the mt82
Hi, The dealership told me the same about the break-in period. However, I recommend you read the owners manual... it stated 1,500-km break in period... It also say's you can use 87 octane for the 2017... I followed the break-in period and only use 91-octane, from Shell. Best of luck with your new car, I am sure you'll love it...! They are a complete blast to drive! Regards.
I can relate this video, I was very excited when I got my 2011 Ford Mustang and the AC broke the first week! It blew hot air, it is apparently a common issue. The transmission was bad too, I traded it in with a Corvette C6. Now I drive 500 Porsche Cayenne Turbo for my daily drive.
It's like they have the engine tuned for a specific rpm shift point and if you don't drive like they planned it all fights each other. The 10r80 does some weird stuff as well. I just keep it in sport mode
Canadian Cruisin Dude my 2018 10r80 was as smooth as butter 95% of the time. This tranny is garbage. I will say though in the past few days it has quieted down a bit
Your Mustang doesn't have the 10R80. Isn't your complaint with the Rev matching 6-speed? Did you test drive the car and notice as you call it the garbage transmission?
@@caffeinatedmotors being a Mechanical engineer harmonic noise,is unsteady thrust on mechanism inside the troubled detailed area. Pretty happy with my 19 Mustang GT with the ten speed. There are mildly annoying quirks like little interior rattles, cheep paint, poor trunk liner fitment but it is fun as hell to drive. The exhaust is amazing, plenty of power. Not perfect but good autotainment for the money overall.
K. McGruder What color do you have ? The silver on my 2016 is perfect . It’s kind of a hard paint but has a real good amount of clear coat and the shine is beautiful 4 year later . As a detailer it’s a bit difficult polishing and compounding but once the job is done the paint looks amazing .
@@plotdot6920 Velocity Blue. I had the front face covered with XPel but have a chip in the side near the 5.0 badge. I'm guessing a rock shot at it from a truck tire or something. I dig the silver.
I bought a new 2020 6speed 5oh and have been having issues for a while now. 1. Car surges. Feels like I’m getting pulled back. Happens while on gas and also on cruise control. 2. Car randomly turns off while driving. 3. Car won’t turn on sometimes. I step on the clutch and all the lights blink on and off. 4. Wrench light has turned on a few times. I took it to the dealer 4xs already and the said they don’t kno what’s going. Currently pursuing a lemon law case. I’m a huge mustang guy, but after this idk if I’m going to come back to Ford.
Guess I'm one of the lucky ones so far! 45k plus miles effortlessly car has been flawless with the drive train ! Only issue I had was the high mount break light started leaking water! Easy fix but when you pull the light out you will immediately ask yourself what the hell where they thinking
Well, if the day ever comes that your MT82 actually fails, don't waste your time and money on a direct replacement, go directly to Tremec, get one of their beastly 6-speeds, and be done with it.
Hi, I have a 2017 GT Mustang. I bought it new. I am experienced in driving manual gear boxes. I can honestly say the gear box my car was the pits. Awful. The dealership said the gear boxes are, and I quote, "notchy". Yeah right...! Anyway, last summer I changed out the return spring for the Steeda spring and the bite point improved greatly. The gear box is noisy. I believe I have at 22,000-km now and the gear boxes has calmed down...a lot! The gear changes are smoother but it does make noise, but nothing compared to my son's 2015 Wrangler. One thing I found, my seat was too far back and the throw on the clutch is quite long. Closing the distance between me and the clutch did make improvements in the shifting. The funny thing is, when ever I pounded the gas the shifts were buttery smooth and no noise, just power. You have a nice car, just give it awhile and hopefully things will improve like mine did. Also, document your concerns with the dealership via email. It will save you necessary stress in the future. Regards.
As far as the jerk on a 1st gear downshift, you said a few videos ago that you’re new to driving manual. Let the clutch out a little slower. That’s just the compression slowing the car down. I work at a dealership as a salesman, they all do that sometimes if you let it out too quickly.
Skullcrusher Gaming Im not talking about downshifting or even shifting, the car makes a jerk like sound like the tranny is being forced harshly or something when i PLACE it into gear (into first), my foot hasnt even been lifted off the clutch yet, just simply placing it into first makes a bad noise
I’m an old guy and I’ve owned a large number of performance manual trans cars thru the years. Doesn’t matter which manufacturer - even though you know that something doesn’t feel quite right (especially if it’s intermittent) nothing will get done by Ford until you have some form of failure. Every time the work order will say “customer states that ...” and it will finish with “technician could not replicate “ or something to that effect. It’s not right but it’s the way it is. Beautiful car - good luck!!
Caffeinated Motors This is truth! Just drive and enjoy the car and if something completely fails then they’ll fix it. Otherwise you drive yourself crazy thinking every little noise means something.
This is only my opinion. I have a mustang GT and honestly they are pieces of crap in many ways. But you know what all cars have their own characters and problems. But you know as well as I do, we buy them cause they look good and haul ass. If you're looking for perfection in everything you're in the wrong car, but, if you want to haul ass and look good doing it, then do like me, quit worrying about every little bug and enjoy the car. That's what warranty is for, even though most of them suck. Have fun relax and go like hell, I wouldn't own any other performance vehicle.
Just redid my 2017 GT dash with scoshe kit and Apple CarPlay radio all touchscreen even the ac is touch and loving it about to do a speaker system upgrade next. 🔈
This is not why 180 here forward having promise with their Mustang I just recently bought my wife a 2019 GT premium package must saying manual tin speed I hope we don't have any problems with her car good video by the way
I have an Automatic mustang and I love it. Bought it new for the 2020 year. Twister Orange as well. I understand that Manual gives the "fun to drive" experience, but automatic is so painless.. no problem yet!
I just bought a 2019 6 speed manual just like yours but orange fury. It came from the factory with a warped pressure plate and caused a piece of the engine block to break off apparently. So after 2300 miles it got a new engine clutch and pressure plate. Welcome to gen 3 probs! Hahaha
I think it's called youth and a new car - hate to say it but that video of you changing gears seemed fine to me - at least you didn't need to double clutch! Which was pretty normal back in the day!
I thought it sounded fairly normal shifting. I had a “12 challenger that had a tremec and it wasn’t anything special. It didnt like being cold either. I wonder if its just a function of them being built to handle more power. I”ve had a GTI and GLI and focus and all their clutches were super smooth and quiet.
As a side note us in the mighty non USA like NZ and Ausi grew up driving manual cars so yea - not sure what your complaint actually is!!! Seriously try driving a manual car from the 1980s pretty much everything seems bloody awesome
I had the tick in my 2019 Mustang GT. Liked the car and V8 rumble, but was turned off by the BBQ tick. I'm guessing it is piston slap and may not bode well for long term engine health. You'd think after all of these years Ford could build a V8 without this nonnsense. Ridiculous.
65000 miles on my 2015 gt manual with absolutely no problems. Hate to hear your having problems bro cause I absolutely love my car. Hope they can make it right
The 1st heat thump is every single s550 MT82. The shift noise is a little weird. The clanking noise I’m not really sure what you’re saying. With that being said whatever the issue is it will be fixed. And I do agree the trans should be a tremec the MT82 should be swapped. Also take my advice and get a raceseng weighted shift knob it will fix a lot of the issues with your shifts. Specially lockouts. Btw every ford dealership does first oil change free.
Those mt82s are hit or miss, I had a 2013 GT I daily drove, I had lock out problems, I tried everything, shifter, clutch line, fluid, and it boiled down to clutch just not disengaging. 2nd and 3rd gear syncro just went out slow because of it. The mt82 has some internal design flaws but really the issue is the clutch. Ford cheaps out on a lot of things and the clutch was one of them. I ended up replacing my mt82 with a built one from Ben Calimer paired with a McLeod clutch and flywheel and it clunked, banged and rattled but it worked damn good. Idk if Ford addressed the clutch problem since but I feel you. It sucked because you spend a pretty penny on something you have to completely change everything on. That's a mustang for you. Love it or hate it
Nice car, man. Keep in mind that cars have idiosyncrasies, some of which are annoying. Auto service departments are not engineering departments and they can't repair flaws that are designed in. Maybe if Ford had chosen the bombproof T-56 or TR-6060 instead of that Getrag. Sorry you're having issues.
Heres how I have to shift mine. As soon as you press the clutch, pull it out of gear. When the pedal is half way down start putting it in gear. REMOVE THAT PEDAL SPRING.
I recently bought 2021 Camaro LT1 I came from Audi and VWs. My feeling was same as yours. I think the issues are annoying but they are same across TRemec 6mt. Once you forgive those/others and get used to it, you can enjoy the car. As I am right now.
If you plan on keeping the car put a clutch in it. It won’t void any warranty unless ford can pin point the “clutch” caused the damage. Talk to your ford technician about it. They should tell you the same thing.
I don’t have that problem with my automatic. I have a 2020 Mustang GT premium 5000 miles. It had 3000 miles when I bought it used two weeks ago. Still no issues with the transmission. Car runs flawless. Heading out on a 3500 mile 10 day trip Thursday. Love this car. Sounds like you have a lemon I hope your state will work with you to get your car bought back
Chinese-sourced Getrag MT-82...GT350 gets you a Tremec; figure within a year or two, the GT350 will probably be ignored/dropped and Ford will put the Tremec in the GT at least as an option. Option in the Recaros, PP 2, and the Roush/Ford Performance supercharger and you have a GT350 plus
I've had zero probs with my ten speed auto and am about to hit 7k miles. No matter how much people knock an automatic American Muscle, you can't go wrong with it.
Switch your fluid over to BG SyncroShift II, or Motul DCTF. Even in mine, the factory fluid isn't the best, and does have some rough shifts on occasion. It has 15,000 miles on it now, and I can feel the fluid aging as the shifts are becoming slowly less smooth. The MT-82 can be modded slightly into a much better functioning tranny. Another issue is the shifter. It isn't the best factory shifter. I would recommend upgrading to a Steeda or MGW shifter. There is also a Steeda rubber bushing you can install on the back of the tranny to help with vibration as well..
@@caffeinatedmotors ...Btw, the scratchy type noise you hear when shifting at higher RPM, is the floater plate in the new twin disc clutch. Twin disc manual clutches have a tendency to sound like that, and not just in the Mustang. Mine does it too. Not a problem. Also, if there is some jerking when shifting and the clutch is fully depressed, it's possible there is some air in the clutch fluid line. It should purge itself out. If not, then it may not be disengaging the clutch as fully as it should, and needs to be fixed. One thing I have found, is this clutch pedal must be FULLY pressed to the floor to shift smoothly. I also tried the Steeda clutch spring. I switched back to the stock spring, as I prefer the feel. It really is a matter of personal taste, and does NOT fix transmission issues.
I just bought me a brand new 2020 mustang gt! I freakin love the car to death. When I got it home I noticed a small dent in the rear above the tire. Its like right on the crease/body line. Its so small but it still bothers my ocd a lot. The dealership told me to bring it up there but they can't guarantee it will be an easy dent to repair since its on that line. Ehhh...not even sure if I should bother.
How did you get rid of it? Get rid of the car or the noise? Mine's procharged and makes a rattle, but I'm thinking it the procharger rattling because ive beat the shit out of it from 9500 miles to 17500 miles procharged and its not gotten any worst.
I never had a problem with my 15gt 6 spd. Nothing at all. It seems like problems started with the 18. 6 speed problems and that typewriter tick. Piston slap or whatever it is. You should record the guy when you’re with him when he says he hears it. I traded my mustang for a Tacoma and love my truck but still have the itch for another. If I was to buy another I’d buy a 15-17 preowned. They’re solid cars.
Yea seems like the issue came after they boosted the power of the 5.0. I’d just go with Dodge if they don’t do a refresh. They ranked #8 on Consumer Reports reliability list with Challenger has most reliable. Plus that car is about the size of a midsized truck lol
Go for it man, my buddy just got a 2018 Roush Jackhammer 710Hp still with the stock clutch and MT82.. car drives just like any other mustang I have driven the transmission is gonna be pretty much the exact same as your 2015 except a couple more bushings and etc to make it “smoother” .
Get a beefier aftermarket clutch and add a Hurst competition plus shifter. Then, drive that pony like you stole it!!!!!! If you want an OCD compliant car, trade it in for a high dollar European or Japanese auto. Or maybe it might be time for you to step up to a high dollar Lincoln or Cadillac. But believe it or not, you will also find something that irks you about those cars also. I am just glad I was not your sales rep or service manager......lol The best of luck with your Pony and drive that car and see what it can do instead of driving it and analyzing it constantly.
Sorry you're having problems. A lot of folks have complained about the MT82 through the years. I've got a 2016 GT w/MT and I've never had any issues with it. No unusual noises or shifting problems unless I got sloppy with the clutch and/or shifter which happens from time to time but that's not the transmissions fault. The car has just over 36k miles on it and it box stock. I'm not sure what I hear through my laptop speakers is very indicative of the noises you tried to let us hear through this video but honestly, I didn't hear anything that would give me pause. Maybe if I were actually in the car? I hope they can figure things out for you.
Your transmission issues might be clutch related. Hopefully it got 500 miles of stop and go engagement without full throttle speed shifting. Other than the whining I believe it’s clutch related.
UCB better shifts, when shifting during hard acceleration the stock shifter locks you out after market helps big time but the noise you have I never heard
The Lemon Law I’m sure it applies here. Saying they can’t replicate the problem is a cop out and they always use it. Thank for this video. I test drove a Mustang with all the bells and whistles. They say anything to get you to buy the car but when problems occur they suck. I luv the color. I’m glad now I didn’t get it and saved $60k
I'm not seeing or hearing what your complaining about. I've owned several Ford products, currently owning a Edge Sport and FCA products, currently owning a new Hemi Chrysler 300C. I traded my 2017 Mustang GT due to an illness that made it nearly impossible using the car daily regarding entrance and shifting gears. The GT was fantastic and never had issues. I miss the experience of driving that car. Unfortunately Ford doesn't offer a V8 Sports sedan so I had to go with a Chrysler product. I will add that Service has always been an issue with all automotive brands. Unfortunately from personal experience. Most warranty service repairs takes a couple trips before the issue is repaired. Example. My new Chrysler 300C heated steering wheel stopped working. The steering wheel was replaced under warranty and it's still not working. I'm not expecting a buyback I'm just expecting it to be repaired which it will be. I can't imagine what your complaint is warranting a buy back. Sounds like you have had a buy back guessing because of an engine issue. It sounds like you're looking for something to complain about. If you dislike Ford so much. Why buy another. I'm also wondering why this supposed shifting issue wasn't noticed during your test drive since your vehicle only has 1000 miles. I don't think you'll get a other buy back for a shift issue or user error..
I was thinking of purchasing a 2019 Ford Mustang GT. May not now. I purchased a 2011 Fusion back in the day. Nothing but transmission issues. Seems like Ford hasn't changed.
u must have bad luck on my 3rd mustang 99...05.....and now 16 never had problems luv the cars my 16 i wish i could drive 24...7 so awesome never had a better car
Man I'm freaking out lol. I hear you. My 2020 just hit 14k miles and my engine light just came on today. Like literally 5 minutes ago. When I crank it, omg it starts up like shit and is depressing. I'm from the US and been a mustang driver since I got my license.
I have a 2020 Premium EcoBoost and just after 1,300 miles the AdvanceTrac shorts out. Had to drive 90 miles with no power steering or traction control. I got the car custom ordered, and it got to my dealership Oct 14, and November 4, it breaks. Haven’t had it since because they “can’t get a part”. I’ve had the worst customer service I’ve heard/dealt with.
The MT 82 whines a characteristic of trans. How ever switching the factory dual clutch trans fluid to BG syncro 2 will quit the whine down some. I have a 17 premium the clutch feels odd at times. I change out the factory hydraulic clutch line made alot of difference in shifts. Ultimately a after market clutch prob gonna be the solver. Ive done everything from clutch spring, fluid change, race shifter and clutch line lol. Only thing left is the clutch .
@@caffeinatedmotors I went with the steeda race tri Ax shifter pretty descent for what its worth. The MT 82 is a animal at time the cold shifting from 1st to 2nd. Almost like it depends on what day of week for it. Since i recently change my factory plastic clutxh2 line to steel braided line shifts improved drastically shifts much better. I think a after market clutch will top off though.
gerald williams Tell me about it. Some days the thing is smooth af the other days its noisy and jerky and overly notchy. Idk what its deal is, more bi polar than my gf
@@caffeinatedmotors Dont know why ford want make a ultimate manual. Thats weird though seem like your 19 would be way better with that twin disc clutch over the one in my 17.
