That idea of a thin layer of resin to simulate a rain-washed street is really cool, particularly with the neon colours underneath... might have to find a project to give that a go on, myself.
Jenn, in particular I wanted to complement you on the reflection color of the blue and purple neon lights from the rain on the base up onto the Mandrake’s feet. Expertly done!
So cool to see Malys mentioned. I've been using the moniker for pretty much everything since high school. Its a second family name to me at this point :3 Keep the quality content coming.
Tabletop time and a cup of coffee- the perfect Saturday morning! Also, Jenn, you've been such a huge influence on my approach to color. Love seeing you showing off your skills and growth as an artist!
That 3rd edition Starter box... So many flashbacks! That was my first ever purchase of Warhammer.. completely forgot it came with Dark Eldar. I got into it for about a yr or so back then and stopped, only returning start of 10th Ed. Amazing paint jobs on the mini's they look great!
Super fun easter egg for Vect's Vette...there's 2 spikey railings as part of his throne...one is missing a spike...if you look at the two "interns" ...the one with the bob-cut is definitely a Sister of Battle...and in her hand behind her back....is the missing spike...🤘
Live the cyberpunk theme for drukhari! I never realised how similar the new mandrake models look to oni until now, but it fits so well! Keep it up Jen ❤
I started the hobby just after the launch of 3rd edition and I have always loved the old Dark Eldar miniatures. I hope they bring Vect back one day, his original model is extremely expensive on eBay!
Really enjoyed this. Thanks for sharing your hobby journey! You should be very proud of the results shown at the end. The Mandrake in particular is amazing!
The mandrake is one of the best models you have painted so far, if there's one thing cool about art making its doing it over time and seeing how far we've come. How not only skill increases, but your gaining more artistic edge, being more intentional and before you know it you've become a story teller of sorts
Really great idea for the Mandrakes - it looks fantastic! To me, the most shocking thing in this video was seeing how good your very first miniatures looked! I think of where I would be now, if my first minis were at that level. Yes, definitely: more videos on your Drukhari! I'd love to see your Wyches!
Ah as always its just so nice to see what you make Jenn! Now i want to try my hand with these lol, Ill finish my projects before starting new ones now haha!
@@wulfezzz6284 True, I wanted to have something unique on the tabletop and also wanted to combine elements from both Drukhari and Nurgle (Decay and pestilence mixed with surgical body horror and terror). Also I like to imagine abunch of Nurglings riding atop a heavily mutated and diseased Talos Pain Engine or even a Raider covered in rust, corrosion, fleshy growths, tentacles, and of course some Nurglings riding aboard the Raider, all the while it looks to be on the verge of falling apart
@@ChaseDaOrk3767 that sounds awesome man that sort of body horror is certainly not lacking from the lore but it would be awesome to see that in some models
ArtelW and Heroes Infinite both do ranges of void born nasty space elves, and as luck would have it, they do minis that could easily stand in for awful old finecast sculpts
I feel old...I still have that starter box...and never did paint the Dark Eldar. Maybe one day, the newer models definitely are an improvement and would be lovely to collect one day.
You need to check out Artel W, he sells resin casts of some really fantastic dark eldar miniatures including a model of Lady Malice that looks really neat
I know you guys have plenty of bases, but it worth mentioning GW is super good at supplying replacement parts, even for orders from 3rd party suppliers. I had 1 gorger base missing from Hunter and hunted and they sent 8 to replace it.
Third Edition Drukari lore was so under-developed, that it's hard to even say what the original Mandrake concept was going for. The only things they really had going was their existing in shadows. The whole shadow daemon thing they've got going now just looks so much better. Regarding the old warp beasts, I'd imagine they were largely reworked into the modern Khymerae. They're both slightly feline creatures with sinewy flesh. Similarly, I'd consider the modern Wracks to be the actual successor to the original Grotesques, with the Grotesques being a 05:28 - "Everything came out in plastic" If only that were true... Except for the Voidraven bomber, everything released since 5th edition, has been plastic versions of Metal/Finecast sculpts from 5th edition... and we're still waiting on more. Drukhari are the _only_ army in the game that haven't gained a single new unit option in close to a decade. Even Grey Knights managed to get a new named character. Would love to see Drukhari in the 11th ed starter set, accompanied by a major expansion with brand new units and some of those long absent characters. I still expect it to be some kind of Dark Mech army instead... but if they wanted to tackle another existing faction, Drukhari are probably one of the best contenders out there.
I have the Dark Eldar from 1998, played them until I gave up on playing because Games Workshop kept changing the rules too often. I played 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th editions. Skipped 6th, 7th and 8th. Got back in at the end of 9th, one year before they released 10th. I haven't resurrected my Dark Eldar yet, likely I will when they release the 10th Codex. Then I bet they release 11th rules set in 2026.
That mandrake looks sick! also, you should try playing Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty if you have the time. i'm a little burnt out on new magic sets lately, but KND was the best thing theyve put out in a couple years
Ehhh, that seems like maybe you got a defective kit? I have that Kill Team and it came with bases. Regular ones for the mandrakes and slightly bigger ones for the Night Lords.
Curious question. Why at 15:48 is Murray rolling plastic bits like dice, lol? I do think the Kamigawa palette would be amazing for Drukhari, even come up with some awesome conversions.
Definitely do more Jen, The idea of dark elder is cool. The new models suck and look nothing like sadistic inter dimensional space elves. It’s sad. At least with the old, you can imagine lol. Archon named.. archon, asian ghosts, snake with arms. It’s just blooody silly
Hey does anyone know how to get the funding goals from the Space Bears Kickstarter if you have already redeemed your discount code? Also awesome video Jen!
I've noticed a weird overlap between Sisters and Drukhari players/collectors. Probably confirmation bias, but I wonder if there's more to it. They had a box together, didn't they?
This was a super fun video, I think for future references taking inspiration from your old models or just making a touch ups or updates would me amazing
Hmmm 🤔 I know you're dark eldar are older for your original army but I was just watching eons of battle and he was doing his army of them as pink and blue with some gold that he started posting about back in February so it's like he stole from you but at the same time he didn't because you posted about them after he did I just thought that was kind of funny
We think in reality people dont steal these ideas from each other nearly as often as it seems - The color combos often just look good, and so people naturally come to the same conclusions
The ホ in ホテル is supposed to be a straight line down. I never saw the appeal of drukhari. They are the most vile, cruelest faction in 40k, whg would you look at that and think its cool or "this is the faction for me"?
The ho in the font you literally typed that in trying to correct us is written with a kick at the bottom. Fonts exist. Katakana can be written in many different ways. And people like collecting Drukhari because they like causing specific pain to anal youtube commenters with puritanical sensibilities.
@@TabletopTime ホ is written straight down. Take one second to see it written in this comment. Are you trying to explain my own language to me? I was politely trying to correct you. Japanese doesn't have the same liberty with fonts as English because a single stroke can change the meaning completely. Edit: I'm referring to the second stroke. Unless you have an Australian made font installed it should be perfectly straight as it is on my screen.
The one thing that kept turning me off from liking the Drukhari was their obnoxiously huge helmets with spikes coming off…looks like half the scale of their thinner, smaller bodies…and in the left hand, What the heck is that lame, U-shaped blade supposed to do? Meh…to each his own I suppose! Great paint jobs!
Uhmmm Not really sure how to say this... But... Jen, you look different recently. Like, in a good way. A really good way. And yes, it is not about the girl, but what she does. But I noticed this before, but this video I knew it for sure. Not sure what you do, but you are looking good Jen!
@@user-zi4wx3uw1y Hahhaa. I am not hitting on her. Relax, I have learned that a compliment is not only for the ill people, who get well... It is still also for the normal healthy people who just look good. If you like to be in a communist socialist Society where we can't give each other and compliment because it might be offensive... Then get back to your cave... I like to have the freedom, to tell a person, that he or she looks good. I think that is always something that is appreciated... And I only say this, when I have the feeling I am right... Maybe Jen has been in a good place mentally the last few weeks and it shows... Or what ever ... I would not like to be in a world where I can not give a person a compliment because you have sand in your ass crack... Have a great day!
@@iain.sm.c You are making it wierd... Not me. I only notice that she looks good. It is not to hit on her... Like she is in a mentally good place lately... So, you are the wierd one, making it wierd...
I'll tell you why we never had a Lady Malice but you won't like it...hint: the same reason we don't have Slaanesh. And shame on GW for turning Lelith Hesperax into another one of their butch lesbian sculpts(sister repentia much?). You know there's a problem when GW can't give us sculpts of women who look like actual women...at first glance you might think it's incompetence as we've had terrible sculpts of women during the 90's, but by today's standards it's clearly voluntary. 🤷♂
Bruh, what? Lelith's sculpt is super femme. Having a bit of muscle tone is by no means an inherently masculine thing lmao What does "an actual woman" look like to you? I have my suspicions, but I'll hear your take on how we're supposed to look first.
@@kara1942 I'm not going to argue basic biology with you as you sound like one of those guys who gets fooled by trannies: "Look at her, she's beautiful!" "Sorry man, that's a dude." 😆
