Got hooked up 35 callaway, taylormade, Bridgestone, & titleist balls at the end of my round yesterday! Marshall goes around and collects a bunch throughout the day, the only catch was he gets to keep the pro v1s lol
"This isn't gonna be a smash fest, I'm looking for the more forgiving and confidence inspiring" (paraphrasing) *Mizuno holds fairway off a toey strike "I can't ignore the distance from the Cobra"
Frankly this bearded fella is kinda the Mr. Bean of golf equipment “tester” loool Useless as f*ck! Hits the Cobra into the bushes and mumbles some bs about “it boosts my confidence”. Don’t know whether to name him idiot or moron! Guess both would fit this driver “test” clip.
Honestly I thought the Mizuno should’ve been the one. The misses on your first Cobra shot seemed larger than the misses with the Mizuno, and in real life you only get the one shot. Except if you are like me and slice the first two tee shots into the woods :)
When two drivers are that close in performance, i would always look at price as a final factor. The cobra is almost 100 dollars cheaper where i live. I would have definitely chosen that one also.
"I think I can get more distance out of my driver shots if I'm landing them in the fairway, as opposed to in the rough." .... Uhhh, yes. That's generally how it goes, Rick. ;) Glad to see you stuck with the big snake!
I ordered that F9 on sale at the start of the season, had a few rounds with it and I didn't mind it. took it to the range and broke it while I was dialing it in. sent it in for warranty and Cobra sent me the new Speedzone back and I am in LOVE with it. never felt so confident with a driver in my career!!
Picked the cobra even though the mizuno got you on the fairway when you hit it out of the toe? Looking forward to another video in 3 months about looking for a more forgiving driver.
Rick, your driver testing sequence at 7:45 was a lot of fun to watch! The music, shot tracing, and multiple camera angles all add a really nice touch. It’s the little things like this that sets your channel apart from the others!
Wow! You’re #21 on trending!! That’s awesome to see! You’ve helped me so much to get ready for this year’s golf season and I can’t thank you enough. Thank you for your amazing content
Dammit Rick! I literally just got back from the range with my new brand new F9 today. ***Edit*** Now available on Ebay, once used range session Cobra F9. Includes head cover and tool.
Fantastic video Rick, over the years you get more and more comfortable behind the camera and are a joy to watch and listen to. Love your swing as well as your honest and logical insights!!
Amazing, I just wanted to let you know that I am 14 years old and playing my first ever 18 hole course on Sunday but I know that because I have your tips in my head that I will do well. Thank you for being on youtube👍
Rick - I love this. I am 61, and a 14 handicap. I played the F9 since it came out. Did a lot of testing this year and had the choices down to two drivers. I could not pick one. So I bought both and put my shaft in them. The Mizuno ST200 & the Xtreme . The Xtreme is the most forgiving driver I have hit with good distance. The ST200 is a tad behind, except it goes farther for me and I get great roll out from it. If I am on a good streak of good swinging I use the Mizuno, if I am struggling a bit off the tee I use the Xtreme. I know I should pick one, but love both.
Craziest thing happened with me testing new drivers. I got fitted and fell in love with the g425 Max. My old driver that has been in the bag forever was the NIKE sq sumo round head driver. I bought the 425 max and used it for 3 rounds of golf & decided to actually go back to my nike because I was more consistent and hit longer drives. I’m a true believer of feel and playing what you like rather than the newest club out there. Same thing with my irons, I’m playing 1980s callaway blades where I switched back to from a new set of callaway and titleist irons. Call me old school but sometimes older clubs feel better than new ones
Oh yes! Just replacing my XR Pro and couldn't find a difference between my club and new Callys. Difference was the Speedzone, same distance and greater consistency, I'm more surprised than anyone else.........
I have to agree. I could tell from the start which driver would be selected as i believe even though the Mizuno tested out better the cobra was always the one your eye liked best 😁
Thanks Rick!! A year on and I’ve managed to pick this up new for just over £200. What an overview! Don’t have a personalised head cover for it though 🤔
I just picked up a Callaway Mavrik....love it but, as you've demonstrated, initially it hits well, then after time during a round, it leaves me. Will plan on hitting the Cobra as I picked up a Cobra 3 wood and it is fantastic. Excellent feel and launches sweeter than any 3 wood I've used thus far. Thanks for your real life reviews. Love your channel!
Not really especially with Bryson Dechambue using one.. a friend of mine and my brother who got into golf last year have both bought brand new Cobras when having the driver choice.
Hey Rick. I know this video is a little older but I just picked up this driver and the 3 wood and 3 hybrid this afternoon. Saved a bunch and now can’t wait to get out on the course to try them out. Thanks for the honest review.
Glad you stuck with Cobra. I bought the F9 last year, based much on your review. Obviously I was fitted for it, but I wouldn’t even have considered it without your vid. I’ve been struggling with the pulls lately and actually moved the weight forward for more workability (fade), and that has helped a lot. Best my friend. Kudos on approaching a mil.
Can someone tell me where i can find those exact shoes? I went to the nike homepage but there are only slightly different ones.. I'd like them all white just as the ones rick is wearing :)
Thanks for all the great videos !! I hit up a local shop and tested my irons and driver for the first time and got some good feedback. I too went with the Cobra King Speedzone Xtreme. Can’t wait to try it out next year!
Rick - Changed my mind in the driver. Cobra Speed Zone Xtreme... Just got done using during my round today and WOW!!!! Long and straight, yet workable when needed.
I just switched from a Titleist 917D2 driver to a Mizuno ST190 G. The Mizuno just goes straight. Surprised the heck out of me, but it is so much more forgiving, its crazy. Having confidence in your driver on the tee is, as you said, priceless.
This gives me a lot of confidence. On Monday I scheduled a fitting for the new cobras for Friday. Can’t wait! Been gaming my old Ping i15 with a Diamana Ali Isle for 10 years now. Can’t wait for more forgiveness!
In fairness, that was the standard speedzone driver. The Regular speedzone driver is pretty much copy and paste from the F9 design. Technically he picked a different style driver this time around.
I hated the F9 when I first got it. Felt heavy so I was over gripping. I still think the Ping G400 is easier to swing if you have a sub 100mph swing speed.
Good luck with the new driver. And thanks for being one of the better golf channels on RU-vid. Informative and fun to watch. Keep it in the short grass Rick!
I live in South Africa and I am 13 years old and would love the Callaway Maverick sub zero to help improve my golf game which you inspired 4 years ago by your awesome videos
" I for one will not be moving to this driver it's the same as the f9" Rick shiels.. cobra sz VS cobra f9 video... Rick no one's going to blame you if you used a different driver every round, if I had that many given clubs to me I'd have 6 different bags all set up, but you categorically said in that video the f9 and the sz were almost exactly the same... What's changed? Same with the Mavrik driver when you tested it, you didn't like it all, yet here it is in the top 3? Would you change your reviews if you did them again? Not having a go, I like your videos, I only ask because I value your reviews and opinions and will be looking to upgrade later this year..
Well when you reviewed the F9 and then put it in your bag you told us ,and showed us, That the F9 could do no wrong. Shape it , flight it, draw it ,fade it , it was glorious, now 18 months later you can’t hit a fairway with it? I get it. I think it’s more mental than anything else and something new has no mental blemishes attached to it. I will say that in this new driver post, it really looks like you truly hit the Mizuno better ( less dispersion) than the cobra speed zone. But hey, we like what we like. Anyway I bought the F9 a few days ago on your review years ago now, and I have to say I’m in love with it. I have the yellow ( which grew on me instantly) and prefer it to the white, and with the smoke hazardous stiff ( no other options available as this model just about out of stock). I’d been struggling with my driver for last few years ( I’m 60) went through TaylorMade , Callaway, and Titleist, and must say I think Ive finally found it. The TaylorMade 430 SLDR was the last best driver I had. F9 is so much more controlled shot making, great trajectory, more distance (280 ish) and hence new found confidence in the tee box. Maybe I’ll pickup the speed zone in two years when price drops by half, but for now I’m apparently hitting my F9 better than you do!😂
The suspense was killin me :) Great video, thanks. BTW, I've picked up golf over the past 6 weeks and I'm hooked! I wish I had tried 20 years ago. I've settled on your and one other channel at this stage. Your content and product reviews are top-notch. Thanks, again!
I actually just purchased a cobra and it’s the best driver I’ve ever had. Forgiving, comfortable, it just feels like I can do more with it without a catastrophic result if you toe it.
I really thought you were going with the Mizuno, that was my guess in your earlier video and you hit so well with it! The Cobra is nice and I've been leaning towards it but after watching your video of the S-190 and 180 I really thought you were going to pick the 200
Can’t go wrong with either. I have mizuno ST190 in the bag and love it. I think the cobra gave you better flights but you were pretty consistent with both. So you did what I think was right for you, whichever you like looking at more.
One of the last drivers I got to test extensively were the Tm 580 and 540, the 580 had the look and made me feel confident...yet would still miss hit it, but I never seemed to miss hit the 540 and that built my confidence...worked at a course and used the demo they had for over a month, loved that pro he was so nice, didn't have the money though, few years later bought a titlest 905t and stuggled to hit it till I got destroyed in a car accident, back to a hand me down
Rick,I watch your videos a lot and you helped me fix some aspects of my game. After putting in the work and relearning everything I ever knew about driver from your videos I can proudly say today I smashed my Taylormade M6 driver 314 yards. Thanks for your guides Rick.Keep them coming!
This video is very much like ALL of your other driver tests you have done over the years. You hit three different drivers to see which one will go in your bag. And you use THREE different shafts in those drivers. This one simple fact makes your test totally USELESS in my opinion. Same goes for you final test with your current driver, with a different shaft again. I did a fitting 2 years ago with the then new Ping 400 Max driver and 4 of the new TPT shafts that all sell for $500 a shaft. ONE of the 4 shafts preformed MUVH better than the others for me. Same head just a different shaft. For me I hit on average 55 percent of the fairways with 3 of the 4 shafts. But with the last shaft, the LOW torque version of the same shafts, I hit 80 percent of the fairways. ONLY real difference between the first 3 shafts was the flex. All Mid torque shafts. The 4rh shaft was X stiff and Low torque version of the same model shaft. This driver fitting for a shaft shows me that the shaft can make a huge difference is accuracy with a drivee, that his is why YOU should have done this driver test using the SAME shaft in each. And each of those shafts should have been Spine and FLO aligned before the tip adapter was installed on the shaft. When I had my shaft fitting ALL of the shaft had been properly aligned before the tip adapter was installed and there was still a big difference with the one shaft accuracy wise. Truth is I rather LIKE most of your video reviews. IF only you would learn this simple fact. Spine and FLO alignment of the shaft can make or break ANY club you hit. In one of your other videos you hit 4 shafts that were the same model, exact for the flex and weight. And you got the A flex and the R flex reversed when you picked which shaft was which flex. I bet you did NOT have each of those 4 shaft Spine and FLO aligned before you did the test. Truth is HOW the shaft is Spine and FLO aligned can make a big difference in how stiff or soft a shaft will play. The difference can be as mush as a flex and a half difference. An R flex install with the Spine down the target line can play as an R flex, but if you have the NBP of that shaft down the target line it can play as an A flex. Exact same shaft only rotated 90 degrees in the same head. That is why your test of the 4 shafts was NOT a good test. Do the same test with Spine and FLP aligned shafts and see if you get the same results. I doubt it would come out the same way.
I just picked up some one length f8 irons and the new SZ extreme driver along with the big tour 3 wood and I absolutely love them! So much better than any other set I've had and gives me loads of confidence! ⛳👍
Used to hit the Cleveland Launcher for well over a decade. Then last year I decide it was time to upgrade. I spent two days testing every driver possible. Went back to the cobra EVERY SINGLE TIME. Look, feel and distance was second to none. Good choice Rick.
Tried near enough every driver on the market at the start of last year and ended up with the F9. Hit it the best, the most accurate and even the "bad" shots were very tightly spread. Plus the £350 opposed to the £450 on your taylormade and titleist clubs was a huge bonus.
Confidence behind the ball is extremely paramount. I've become so used to the shape of Titleist drivers that it gives me confidence over any other that I test. The performance is so similar when I test them that I stay with what looks good.
This was fun to watch. Love my F9 and matching 3wood. They make a great team. Just for grins and giggles, put a cobra 3 wood shaft in the driver head and see what your dispersion and distance comes out to. I have tried it with similar HZRDUS Yellow shafts and the results surprised me.
I hit both and picked the Cobra. The Mizuno is very dynamic driver. I am 70 yrs old and found the Cobra to be slightly better than the Mizuno.thanks for the review always good
Rick I thoroughly enjoyed your feature "My New Golf Driver". Your quest and analysis is spot on for my situation. I'm looking for a new driver possibility to hit more fairways and give me a little more confidence. I'm a 72 year old golfer. I have played Ping driver for years. Just not getting the same results with my G410 SFT that I did with G20. Your process of choice makes me want to give the Cobra a look\see. Thanks mate!
Literally off watching all your video’s of recent about the cobra f9 as I need a new driver convinced me to buy the f9 2 days ago. I’m not going to be scared off waiting for it to get here by this video but take this video as being informative of what to work on when I get it. Cheers Rick 👍🏽
Just put the xtreme in the bag this week. Always liked my M2 but after playing 27 holes with the extreme, I managed to hit 17 or 21 fairways. My misses are also much more playable than with the old driver. Let's hope this trend continues.
As a 15 handicap and for the money ($250) I’ve never hit a better driver then the Cobra F9. I’ve played it about 6 rounds now and I’ve gained so much confidence. It’s definitely helped my game.
Switched to the pxg prototype driver with graphite design tour ad tp, the combo gave me the most consistent results. The TM was slightly longer but definitely much more inconsistent, the Callaway was similar results minus a 3.5 yard more variation in left misses. Definitely worth a try.
I think that was the right choice Rick. I just got myself a Cobra F8 last fall and I’m loving it, but I can only imagine how much Cobra has improved their driver design since then. Oh well, I’ll stick with it until I get better.
Interesting! I play of 5. I swapped from GBB Epic Sub zero to a M4 driver. It gives me alot more forgiveness, don't make the game harder than it already is! Way to go
