Tuning BF#BF#BF#D (CGCGCD# on the original) Ewan Dobson is one of the greatest , you should definitely check this guy out. David Aguilera : David Aguilera Guitar : Stéphane Noel Witness me.
Haha, dude, that was awesome! You did great, especially considering the source material. Goddam that looks like it would be fun to play though. I've always wanted to get into fingerstyle but never could get past what an absolute motherfucker it is to practice that stuff when you first start out. 😅 Trying to get me to practice is like trying to get me to eat a spoonful of shit - like, I have a _strong_ natural aversion to actually going through with that kinda thing lol. Have you tried any of Dobson's other stuff? His acoustic metal is what I first heard, and I friggin loved it - to me, it sounds so original. That stuff got me hooked. I'm also pretty fond of all that folk-y kinda pirate music he was putting out around 2016. _Silver Thaw_ and _Winter by the Sea_ come to mind. I wish he would write some more material along those lines but I think I can understand that he's probably moved on stylistically from those as an artist. Like, 'been there, done that'. He seems to need to consistently challenge himself and -learn- conquer new techniques. That's just my take, I dunno. I love it most when people do their own thing - I'm a fan of originality. And I don't mean _completely_ original... that's practically impossible nowadays. Even if you go the route of that atonal bullshit, someone was already doing it better like 30 - 40 years ago lol. I just mean... really just _your own thing_ - putting yourself into your music, you know what I mean? It's like, music is a form of non-verbal communication - and I'd rather hear what you have to say, honestly and from the heart, than hear you tell me someone else's story. I think that through someone's music, you might be able to hear what's in their soul - if that makes any sense. None of that is meant to knock you for doing a cover - that's not what I'm talking about at all. I guess I let my thoughts stray a bit there, hehe... sorry about that. I could've just gotten to the point and asked: do you have any original material posted? If you do, gimme a link to something that you're fond of personally or whatever - I'm happy to take the time and give it a listen. 😀 I just realized I probably got _way_ too deep for a youtube comment with all that lmao - my bad... 😋
Thanks ! I have no classical background. I began by playing mostly bass guitar, and then when I discovered the music of Kaki King, I tried to get myself into fingerstyle more seriously.
Mainly learned this by ear, some things here and there are not 100% accurate though :( Yeap Sir Dobson does tabs on his website www.ewandobson.com/store.html Have fun !
Great Cover. Do you know if any of his songs are in standard tuning? I want to buy some of his tabs and learn some of his songs but I don't want to be constantly retuning my guitar.
I feel you bro. Ewan uses some standard tuning and drop D on his acoustic metal albums (acoustic metal 1/2 and Insomnimania) It's mainly guitar played with a pick though. And quite frankly it's hard as fuck, mad respect for those pulling those out ! If you're into playing Ewan music, most of his track are in CGCGCE ! Good luck, have fun.
I've taken the plunge and retuned my guitar to CGCGCE. I've started with Disk Read Error because I bought those tabs years ago and damn! This stuff can be tough lol. I never realize how helpful those finger pick attachments he uses could be.
The finger picks does help, but first there is a big learning curve. Plus the guy is really tall, sometimes I just can't even stretch my finger like his. Have fun !
