Halfway through the video. I “soft launched” my private practice this year around early August. I’m slowly becoming profitable without any marketing or directed scaling on my part. I’ve also made my availability very low as I’m recovering from burnout. Just wanted to say I’ve been watching your videos and feeling inspired. Congratulations to you and I hope you have an amazing 2023.

Hi! Thank you so much for sharing your experience with your practice. I love that, we definitely deserve to go at a pace that works for us. For those of us who’ve experienced it we know that recovering from burnout takes time, I’m sorry you experienced it and so glad things get to be different for you now.🤎Thank you for watching 😊

I really appreciate all your thoughts and tidbits on running your own practice. I will be starting study soon in counselling and looking at starting my own practice like you and I feel you’ve given me a head start in doing it well from the beginning. Thanks heaps! 😊 looking forward to learning more!

Congrats on all your success! I always love watching your videos but simultaneously celebrate when I don't see you post as often because I know it means your business is growing and thriving which is so exciting. Something ive started doing is looking for other therapists, specifically on RU-vid to see how they do it. I am a LMHC. I currently work at a private practice part time that im hoping to become full time while also trying to figure out how to be financially stable with fee for service. Id eventually want to open my own practice but seems so daunting and overwhelming. Makes me feel like ill never get to a place where I make good decent money from this. Also no one ever tells you- or at least told me how lonely private practice can be. So thank you for sharing your life, and what you do! Hope to be there one day !

Hola Deyanira!! I am from the RGV too! Currently I am a currently a middle school teacher, now for 10 years. No luck in finding a school counselor position down here. You know how that goes. My only hope is to pass the NCE and pursue other things. I finished grad school in May of 2020. I took the NCE once and didn't pass it. Taking it in July and hoping to study hard in June. Your videos have been so helpful.

Raquel I’m so happy you’re here! I’m so sorry it’s been hard, schools really need actual counselors who do counseling in this positions for sure. I’m rooting for you! 🫶🏼🎉

I just want to say thank you for your videos! I spent several hours watching your videos and researching the laws in my own state and the language can be so confusing! But this has been helpful. I did have one question… do you/are you able to bill insurance? Or do you primarily take on self pay clients? In my state LPCs cannot bill insurance so I was curious how it is in Texas. Thanks!
@Keep_On_Growing
@Keep_On_Growing Год назад
Thank you so glad they’ve been helpful! I 💯 agree the wording can be so confusing. And yes it’s the same here in Texas where prelicensed counselors can’t bill insurance and they’d have to contact insurances directly to see if they can and something’s changed. My clients are private pay and I’m going to stay that way but what I do tell my clients is that they have the option to submit the superbills and invoices they’re automatically provided through my EHR program simple practices. Some insurances do accept that in Texas so that could be something to explore. Hope this helps😊

I really enjoy watching your videos. I was just wondering how many clients you typically see per week? I wasn’t sure if the numbers of sessions you were giving were per week or per the entire month. I am also an LPC-A and am considering what private practice may look like. Thank you for sharing your journey!
@Keep_On_Growing
@Keep_On_Growing Год назад
Thank you so much! 🥹The number of sessions I shared in this video were per month so now currently I see between 6-12 clients a week and each week looks different for me. Some clients I see once a week, once every 2 weeks, or once a month.

Wait, I’m confused.. you said you were booking consultations as well as clients. I looked at your website and saw that your consultation calls are free. So are the consultations you are booking the calls? Or are those the Keep on Growing consultations with therapists? Love the information queen!
@Keep_On_Growing
@Keep_On_Growing Год назад
Hi! During this time I was booking both the free phone consultations for potential clients and consultation sessions for counselors-in-training. The large volume was for the free consult calls for potential therapy clients.

I am confused you keep mentioning "my private practice" but the current Texas rule states "An LPC Associate may practice counseling only as part of his or her internship and only under the supervision of a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor, (LPC-S). The LPC Associate may not engage in independent practice." Above is the currently posted in the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council and Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors Rules Updated:09/28/2022 Is there a separate rule for "private practice" ?
@Keep_On_Growing
@Keep_On_Growing Год назад
Yes this is my private practice and “independent private practice” within the rule book is defined as trying to have a private practice as an LPC Associate without being supervised by an LPC-S. If you have any questions or concerns about interpreting the rule book definitely contact the Texas Stateboard directly and do what makes you feel comfortable. Supervisors were given the option to decide if they wanted to take on LPC associates perusing having their own private practice so it is not mandatory for supervisors to agree to it. I am familiar with this because me and my supervisor followed the advocacy process that took place to make this change and if you’ve saved previous rule books you can compare the difference in wording as well. I am on the side of other LPC associates and LPCs who wish the board was direct and clear about their wording but I have no control over this so definitely reach out to them for more clarity. Me and other LPC associates have had our practices after the rule change went into effect on March 2022 and I have past videos sharing about this too.
@Keep_On_Growing
@Keep_On_Growing Год назад
You can also continue to read the other portions of the rule book after the one you mentioned: (i) An LPC Associate must continue to be supervised after completion of the 3,000 hours of supervised experience and until the LPC Associate receives his or her LPC license. Supervision is complete upon the LPC Associate receiving the LPC license. (j) The possession, access, retention, control, maintenance, and destruction of client records is the responsibility of the person or entity that employs or contracts with the LPC Associate, or in those cases where the LPC Associate is self- employed, the responsibility of the LPC-Associate.” It continues to speak about if the LPC-Associate is “self-employed”. I hope this helps but again feel free to contact the board directly as well.

Did you start getting everything ready to do a private practice as an associate before your graduation?
@Keep_On_Growing
@Keep_On_Growing Год назад
So owning a practice as an associate wasn’t even a possibility when I graduated in 2020 so I didn’t start prepping until me and my supervisor started following the changes the board was making so in my head I didn’t think I’d get to have a practice until I was a full LPC. What I did do though was start an IG account regardless to market myself and eventually this RU-vid channel to lay that foundation. If I would’ve had that option I definitely would’ve gone straight into launching my private practice though instead of working for someone else and started prepping gradually during/in between grad school.

You mentioned you want to see your on therapist in the future. Is that a recommendation for all therapist to do..see their own therapist…or is it mandatory in the state of Texas?
@Keep_On_Growing
@Keep_On_Growing 9 месяцев назад
So some universities require it in their programs but it’s not mandatory by the Texas stateboard after you graduate. But just like medical care, we all need mental healthcare and especially as therapists who are providing that care, we deserve to have our own safe space too and care for any needs we have regarding our mental health just like Dr.’s see other Dr.s for check ups and medical care. Thank you for asking, love this question!😊

Burnout is so real within the counseling profession. I have found that specializing in one area & sticking only within that can help reduce that burnout. Currently I’m trying to work on transitioning into a specialty again.
