Great advice about money habits and credit cards! We went credit card free during our debt free journey, then we went back to using a credit card and paid it off each month. Now, I am back off of using a credit card, because I was having to dip into savings too often. Finances and life is not linear. You can change your lifestyle choices during different times of your life. Make your finances work for you!

Great tip about having an auto transfer set up on payday. You are so right that if you see the money available in checking you are more likely to spend extra instead of save for something later.

Thank you for being as transparent as you can be! I feel like there are less influencers talking about money in a straight forward way. I’m just wondering if you have or considered speaking to a financial advisor on getting started/managing your money. A have absolutely no clue and your video as given me motivation to managing my money!
@CarterSullivan
@CarterSullivan 15 дней назад
It is a good place to start! I'm really lucky because my husband has always been really financially literate and taught me everything I needed to know so I didn't speak to a financial advisor. But it's a great place to start if you don't have anyone who is super knowledgable about money!!

Would love a video on sinking funds. Do you have multiple accounts or do you track sinking fund totals with a spreadsheet?
@CarterSullivan
@CarterSullivan 16 дней назад
I don't think I have enough to say on it for an entire video but I will say there are MULTIPLE ways to go about it. Some people have 1 account and track what money is for what sinking fund. The bank I am with allows for multiple buckets in 1 account so I personally have multiple buckets for each of my sinking funds. Just comes down to personal preference! I am a very visual and keep it simple person so I prefer having my sinking funds divided up because that way I'm not spending tons of time tracking what money is for what sinking fund if it's all in 1 account!

Very interested in seeing your Adsense payouts and how you allocate it. Any tips on getting paid monthly? I receive a payout every 3-4 months. 💕✨
@CarterSullivan

So my business is completely a separate entity from my personal finances. I incorporated my social media business at the beginning of this year, so all of my business income (Adsense and brand deals) now flows into my business bank account. I don't talk about this in my videos because I tried to live off of my corporate income as much as possible and not rely on my social media income. It's definitely a substantial amount of money, but I choose to keep all that in the business to reinvest and better my channel. From there I budget the same way, but just with my business. So I pay off my business credit cards, put money aside for taxes and savings! Most of my budget videos from 2023 and previous years do show how I budgeted my social media income since it all came through on the personal side. First thing I would do is put money aside for taxes, and then I typically viewed my social media income as savings or debt payoff money back when it all came through to my personal accounts.

So I purchased the budget template you use but it’s super confusing can you make a video on how to actually use it and update it?
@CarterSullivan
@CarterSullivan 18 дней назад
It's not my budget spreadsheet!! The spreadsheet comes with instructions on how to set it up when you purchase it from Etsy, so I highly recommend following those! I don't really wanna give advice on setting it up because spreadsheets can be really finicky with deleting and adding things in so I don't want to say anything since I didn't create a spreadsheet. But if you follow the set up instructions, I promise it's really straightforward and easy! Just takes a good like 30 minutes, so definitely just do it when you have some time😊

I have always admired your discipline. I am more than a decade older than you and I can't seem to tap into that motivation. I want to make things happen, but my desire to buy things always wins. I don't really understand why. Is that the scarcity vs abundance?

Okay so you've become disciplined AF with your finances, I salute you!😀 But, what if you go over a certain limit or amount that's a bit more than the buffer left in your cheque account (for the variable spending you do on your cc), what do you do, how are you able to pay it off? Is this where savings and sinking funds come in to play?? (I'm sorry if this is a silly question lol, I'm new to budgeting and finances 🥲) congrats on 100K subs btw!🎉🎉🎇 New subbie here 🤗
@CarterSullivan
@CarterSullivan 20 дней назад
I just want to say as much as I'm disciplined, I am not a perfect person. I overspend at times, and I made impulsive purchases- no one is perfect with their finances. Honestly, this used to be some thing I was really bad at when I had all of my credit card debt as I was constantly spending more than I could afford to pay off, and I just overcome a lot of these money issues over the years that I don't really have this issue anymore. But this was definitely something I struggled with when I first started budgetting and getting into personal finance. He's taking me a few years to get to the point where I can have money in my checking account and not feel the need to spend it. Truthfully, at the end of the day, I have to be an adult and I have bills to pay and a husband who is depending on me to pay half of our bills and so I can't really just be frivolously spending and not having any money left in my checking account. I would rather not spend a lot on myself and have that comfortable buffer to live with. I I feel like I'm very aware of my spending, and I wouldn't put myself in a situation where I am frivolously spending more than I can pay off. I roughly spend around the same amount monthly in my variable expenses. It's taking me a while to do so but I know what I'm comfortable spending monthly on groceries, gas, miscellaneous, spending etc. If you watch the vlogs, you would know that I'm not a huge spender anymore which also plays into my spending- I'm a big fan of Thrifting in buying things used on Facebook marketplace and saving up for things! If we were to have a big purchase, that was unexpected I would use my emergency fund or my sinking funds for things like vet bills, birthday presents, etc.

Wise words - a colleague of mine was shorted hours of vacation (they never changed her percentage with seniority) and she did not know (with more years of service accruing increased) - this went on for 2 years - it was a LOT of vacation time she was credited - it pays to review every single paycheck and review your personnel handbook and look at those percentages of accrual ...glenda I also think the old days of pay stubs forced us to review and now with on line only - we kind of don't pay attention as MUCH
@CarterSullivan
@CarterSullivan 16 дней назад
I totally agree! I feel like especially in roles where you are an hourly employee and you get a pay raise every year (aka nurses and other allied health) it's so important to check your paystubs. I have friends who didn't check their paystub for a few years and then realized they hadn't got their raise and the hospital owed them a ton of money!

love these vids! ❤ you always stress that savings/investments come out of your supplemental income - would you consider making a vid with a mock budget of how you'd save/invest if you only had to rely on your corporate income? i think that'd be interesting
@CarterSullivan
@CarterSullivan 22 дня назад
It would probably just look like this video did since I was able to put some money into investments! But kinda hard to say because like I mentioned in this video I have always had more than one job since I was 16 so it's all I've ever known honestly. But I'm sure there are some other payday routines on TT and on RU-vid that show it!
