Nice to see an early 928 getting attention. It's admirable how you take on just about everything that needs it! Doing this work in a small garage must be challenging, but you're getting on 🙂

Thanks Marmalarky, its a rewarding hobby. Hopefully one day I'll sell the 911 and create a little more room in the garage.

Hi Todd I like your video, i like your perseverence. I have a few things to suggest for you to consider, First at the 1100 min mark your anchoring the main battery and charging wires to the sway bar, this is not a good idea as the sway bar moves when the car is in motion the bar will wear out the insulation over a period of time best to position the wires away from the bar make sure they dont touch the oil pan either. On your front cross member there should be 4 6mm T bolts that come through the center crossmember. Good luck on your project

Thanks Stan. I’ll see what I can do under there. I’m guessing it will be tricky with the engine in place :(. I’m going to recrimp new connectors onto the wires at the starter so will try then. Thanks for watching :)

On th eramps ... perhaps you could lay a plant from the back wall to the base of the ramp, and then again to the rear ramp. Same on the other side? Better yet, to avoid the ramp spinning UP and into the under carriage, then raise the end of the plank nearest to the ramp with a brick or two and/or a 90 degree piece of wood. Then do the same to the back ones.

Yeah not a bad idea. Thanks :)

Put a couple of straps tied to the thin edge of the ramps, the tires will land on them and stop them sliding away both going up and down. Don't know why they are not added by the manufacturers

Yes I just thought about this…. Thanks :)

Lifters may be making a little racket, because you have it up in ramps. Remember, the oil pickup tube is all the way at the front of the engine. Be sure to use 20W-50 to protect that thrust bearing! If lifter ticking is still present after all that, then they just may be a little old and worn out. Shouldn’t be a problem.

thanks Justin. I can't remember what oil I put in it, but I remember it was cheap and just to get it running/engine flush. Ive just ordered 20/50 Valvoline, lets see how it is after an oil change.

@@MrToddgibbs Ah! That’s probably what’s causing the lifter ticking then. Make sure it is conventional, and not synthetic. These engines were designed to run on conventional, and with a high zinc content (ZDDP). These old 928 engines love the zinc!

It is mineral oil :) I’ll show in next video (if it arrives!)

That sounds lovely on start up. It's so awkward laying on the floor and doing anything. You need to invest in a 2 post lift and to raise the ceiling in the garage 👍
@MrToddgibbs
@MrToddgibbs 4 месяца назад
Yeah I’ll get on that :). Seriously though, I’d love a lift.
@MD-318

@@MrToddgibbs it is the man cave dream. I think I'm going to have to invest in a scissor lift for the garage instead as they're not as height intensive

Looks like you are missing a P clip on the passenger side that holds the loom to the cross member

Hey, yes something is definitely missing there - it’s held up out of the way now :)

You don't need to remove or slacken the engine cross brace to fit / or remove the two plastic air tubes, least i never have ?

Oh man - that starter connection wiring is a travesty. Buy a kit of connectors - no need to reuse that shyte.
