Doing the finishing touches on the Spx cylinder and wanted to give you a quick tour of my porting setup.
You don't need fancy expensive stuff to port two stroke cylinders, you can get by with cheap tools and a little "creative engineering".

Surprisingly my Dremel (395 type 5) has lasted me since sometime early 2000, so 12-18 years and in that time I used it daily for probably 6 years making guitar pedals, electronic cigarettes, custom computers, PCBs and other electronic devices, and surprisingly (I'm kind of ashamed to say it) I've not once cleaned nor lubed it, nor have I ever housed it in the fancy case it came with, and it still works like new. It's by far my most frequently used power tool(maybe tool in general) so I'm surprised yours broke so quickly. Granted I have my grandfather's circular and jig saws, cordless drill and sander, and all still work, so maybe the older stuff is just built much better

That Flexshaft is a good tip, i had problems with my Dremels going bad until i started using better Airdremels.

Its funny ive been working on small engines for 25 years 90% of the time with no protection on (Cant tune a small 2 stroke if ya cant hear it) . The only time i had any eye problems was when a piece of grit got in the eye from on the inside of the glasses. Also Hearing is fine and Tinnitus is a good excuse to not listen too the missus (Sorry love ringing in the ears ya know).

A lot of times if you put some wd40 on bits they won’t load up with aluminum. Not sure if that works with stones though

You may already know but if you spray the bits you are using with WD40 it will help stop the bits clogging with aluminium I use this a lot when porting heads you have to keep reapplying it but it works great
@AuMechanic

It works well, you can get a wax stick also that is for that purpose, you dip the burr tip in it now and then and it keep it clean.

I’ve always used a chalk like, metal marking product called ‘soap stone’ or ‘ keel’. Not near as messy as a liquid. Works well with a file!

Nice setup mate. Currently building my own portibg setup too. Want to custom port my cylinder, YAMAHA TZM 150 with power valve. Can you suggest what angle for all porting that suitable for me. Looking to increase my power.

For the stones. Dip the stones in wax then you can grind a little. Then dip them again. They won't clog up as much. Also try to make the ports look like a golf ball. I've had good luck with this on port velocity.
@2STROKESTUFFING
@2STROKESTUFFING 6 лет назад
+Jason Schneeweiss I've seen this golf ball thing done. Any data on gains?

@@2STROKESTUFFING Dimples only work on golf balls at a CERTAIN velocity and only because it keeps flow attached that might break away from the surface. If they have any benifit in a port it will be just ahead of where you might think the flow will separate. EX: in the short side of the transfer walls just before the turn. Even then it only works between ~180-200 Feet per second. Above and below that the smooth shape is better. Golf balls are driven in that range of speeds. Port velocity?? not so much. Add to the complications that all those speeds change a lot with temperature and also with fuel vapor and droplets. Just randomly dimpling the whole thing will likely do nothing if not hurt flow.

i heard somewhere that if u use wd40 with those stone bits, it wont collect aluminium to itself. dont know if it works but i guess its worth trying

Before you do make sure to check out a TZ250 service manual...it has a lot of details on the subject and I was surprised after seeing what they meant in person (I have a TZ250 cylinder for a cylinder swap right next to me and the roundness of the port lips is insane)
@2STROKESTUFFING
@2STROKESTUFFING 6 лет назад
+Sketch1994 My philosophy in short: No chamfer whatsoever on transfers - reduce tendency to backflow. Huge chamfer on exhaust top edges - enhance flow.

Try using wd40 or marvel mystery oil or the equivalent of them that's available to you and dip your burrs and stones in the oil b4 grinding on Aluminum. It really helps keep em from loading up

Who was the company whos tools you mentioned first? I do alot of porting on small 2 strokes. Primarily chainsaws and other power equipment and plan on getting a job at local shop that carries Billy Goat, Briggs & Stratton®, ECHO, Honda Power Equipment, Hustler Turf, Kawasaki Engines & Power Products, Kohler Engine®, Mantis, Scag, Shindaiwa, STIHL®, and Toro® and I plan to introduce them to the benefit of offering cylinder modifications for guys who want either a basic woods ported work saw all the way to a turbo ported hotsaw that runs on methanol.

2STROKE STUFFING do you know were I can find the math for it
@2STROKESTUFFING
@2STROKESTUFFING 6 лет назад
Gordon Blairs "Design and simulation of two stroke engines" for the math. In short you want the ports as large as possible while retaining the "right" angles, enough blowdown, and sensible durations.
