I had a lot of places that could be considered bases during my 500-day Stalker run, but easily my favorite was the Mountaineer's Hut in Timberwolf Mountain. It's cozy, conveniently located, and has a great view of both the Summit and any auroras. Really, the only downsides are the lack of storage options (if you ignore the outdoors) and that hole in the ceiling. This is a quick, musical tour of everything I left indoors. You can see the evidence of a couple achievement hunts, with animal hide clothing for Wrapped in Furs indoors and all my Old World food left outdoors so I wouldn't eat it during Living Off the Land.
