The reason game of thrones in so good is because of the fact that they kill of major characters, most shows you’re sitting there thinking “well he’s not gonna die” and it takes away from the scene. In this show you never take anything for granted bc of the fact that anyone can die at any moment
In the books Roose is described as talking so low that others have to be silent to hear what he has to say, so it makes sense he makes you calm when he talks
exactly! I remember it starting. ppl who knew red wedding is coming recorded their friends reactions to it. than slowly ppl started recording watching other GoT episodes.. and than it spread to other shows and became a thing. history was made lol
the fact that theon was captured by the boltons is hinted at when jaime and brienne were captured. we see the bolton sigil in that scene and jaime even comments on it saying “the flayed man of house bolton. a bit gruesome for my taste.” the sigil of house bolton looks exactly like theon strapped to that cross
The writer lulls you into Rob’s decision making so that you make the same mistakes he does and so when it costs him his life in some way it shows how you would have failed as well. Only upon reflection do you understand how you were blinded to the mistakes just like Rob was.
Being willing to kill to major characters is a strength. It keeps the element of danger alive where you are never sure who is safe, just like real life can be
One thing I’ll leave you with, my King, remember that this story is written by someone who values authenticity above all other storytelling tropes. Prophecies, religion, character arcs are all literary tropes that he teases you with and then drops the moment they are unrealistic, because at the end of the day, GRRM is only interested in human truth.
I know why he makes you feel calm. The actor who plays Roose Bolton has an incredible voice. I felt the same way, like this guy is pure evil but I love listening to him talk.
The show's Red Wedding is brutal but there's a line in the book's version that haunts me. Just before they cut Catelyn's throat they grab her by the hair and she thinks to herself 'No, don’t, don’t cut my hair, Ned loves my hair.'
That moment in the book when I read about Robb’s Direwolfs head being sewed onto his body, that still haunts me even 25 years later. Had to put it down for a few days after that 😢
I TOTALLY agree about Bolton. He is so.... low key, he is so quiet, he seems almost like he hasn't done anything wrong at all. I totally feel what you were saying about not having much hatred for him even though he's so bad. Something about his personality.
In the books, there are slaves of all skin colors. These are people captured and sold after losing a war. The author, George R.R. Martin, regrets that a white savior is perceived and humorously explains that the filming took place in Morocco. Naturally, it was Moroccans who showed up for the casting call for extras. 🐉
The Red Priestess didn't change her stance only after reading the letter. She put the letter in the fire and saw something in the fire. The same as after throwing the leeches into the fire. The letter itself would not have swayed her position.
31:52 “thats how you know she loves you tho, when she hits you with an arrow” with the biggest smile 😭 yes i too love shooting the loml with an arrow..
The Boltons sigil is flayed man on an X. It was on Robb Starks War board, it was on Lockes Banners when he captured Ser Jamie and Brienne, it was in your face the entire time.
She didn't just read it she burned it and looked into the flames, what she saw is what changed her tune not just what she read. Reading it she can't verify if it's true but burning it gives her a vision that the lord of light sends. The vision tells her the truth of it, or she believes it does anyway. She is a priestess and does what her fire god bids her to do to fulfill his will.
@@cosmocoatl Didn't say only and I'm just pointing out she didn't just read it and believe it. Not trying to explain magic just what happened. Besides there is a deep philosophical issue there but we can't go there yet, it would be a spoiler.
Good insight about Roose Bolton. Roose doesn’t do evil for the fun of it like Joffrey or Ramsey. Roose does evil things to advance himself and his family like Tywin. Roose was honest when he said he’d have stayed Loyal to Robb if he took his advice and made better decisions. Roose only switched sides when Robb was losing.
Much love Barry, I know last episode was hard. But this is the run right here. From here till the end of S4 is some of the best television ever made. EVER.
Jamie didn't know about his father's deal with Roose, he viewed him as a captor...so "Lannisters send regards " was just a meaningless phrase, right? Roose gave it WHOLE NEW horrible meaning.
sorry, have to disagree. I believe Jaime was the messenger for that plan, or at least the first contact between Tywin and Roose leading to the creation of the plan. Once Roose lets Jaime go, there's no turning back for Roose and Jaime knows it, if Robb found out he transported such a valuable prisoner back to the enemy he would kill Roose. Why would anyone (Jaime) at that point believe that Roose wasnt on their side?
@@glynmorrall5978 Jamie had zero opportunity to be a messanger boy. Everything was set in motion while Tywin was dining with Littlefinger in Harrenhall way back. Of course, if the books say otherwise, it's a different timeline of events. I'm commenting on the show.
@@mapletree3434 in the books Roose says, Jamie Lannister sends his regards. But I really don't think that it is meant the way Catelyn heard it but having heard it is why Lady Stoneheart is after Jamie. I don't think Jamie had anything to do with it because of Jamie's chapters in the books. They are all POV. So the readers get to know Jamie's thoughts.
@@mapletree3434 Yeah im going by show too. Fair enough I might be far off thinking jaime was the catalyst of the plan, But I feel my point still stands that whether he knew exactly what was going to happen, he was aware by the time of that quote that the Boltons were going to betray the Starks, just given the circumstances of him being sent home safely.
@-jess--here-- Wow, wait, so Jamie is oblivious? Ugh,I almost asked something spoilery! Anyways, Bolton in the books almost framed Jamie..but it's all Tywin-aproved so no repercussions anyway.(no, don't tell me about that Lady...I didn't read the books). Is your view that show Jamie doesn't know anything?
38:20 but that has always been Melisandre's goal, she was "taught" that the Prince who was promised, who she thinks is Stannis, will lead the world into the great war against darkness. That's why she does everything she can to get Stannis to the throne. With this letter she only had confirmation that the great war is closer than she imagined
For me, a movie that has stayed with me forever is the 1995 Ghost in the Shell animation. I saw it when I was young, and didn’t quite get it all, but the vibes were so strong that I never forgot it. I’ve rewatched it a few times and appreciate it more every single time. It’s a rare example of respecting your audience’s intelligence and patience.
The great thing about GoT is that everyone's story is interesting, for the most part. If they off a few characters, there's still a dozen+ more you can follow and enjoy. I've also never seen a show where all of the side characters impact you like they're main characters, either. And most importantly, these character deaths don't derail the story, but actually enhances it.
It is weird that no one gets who Ramsey Snow is before he is revealed since Roose says that he's going to send his bastard and then you have the flayed man on the Bolton flags and flaying Theon is one of the first things Ramsey does when he reveals that he's torturing him.
Bro was so shook by Episode 9 he was still shook in Episode 10. I think basically everyone that didn't read the books were shocked, I've seen a lot of reactors even scream or cry. So then after this we're on to Season 4, plus the Season 3 Lore video (if that's happening).
Melisandre follows visions she sees in the fire. She only gets tiny pieces at a time, and bases what she does off of what she sees. She misread what the mission was. If you notice, after she read the message, she put it in the flame. She then had the vision of the white walkers, and that Davos was needed in the war to come
Why get mad at Mel once she started spitting though? She changed her mind to the correct position once she got new information from the flames. That should not be seen as a negative trait.
the lord of light aint telling nobody nothing lol. he's just like "i gave you fire magic and the ability to bring people back to life. go figure that shit out"
@@shadowfire_08 hes the one character that makes me hesitant to rewatch the show each time. his big scene makes me so furious and sad, and constantly make me just wish he chooses a better option, especially since hes my absolute favourite character (joined with Robb Stark :(
When you look at it, it was a slaughter and not a battle. They got the jump on them and got many of them good and drunk to make it easier to kill them.
Don't worry about not recognising who Ramsay Snow was. His identity was hard to figure out for everyone. That's why people were chuckling about it in the comments when he first showed up 😂
Yeah it's crazy how obvious the Ramsey reveal really is when going back and re-watching the show. They basically tell you what happened but there's so much to try to keep up with that you never realize it on your first watch.
The movie ending that sticks with me the most is Donnie Darko, how he laughs when he knows everything. But my favorite movie bar none is The Fall (2006) with Lee Pace.
In the books the northmen and Catelyn are understandably angry bc the woman that Robb married is a Westerling (a lesser house of the Lannisters). Robb possibly married a spy and broke an oath for her.
6:53 The princess Bride Monty Python and the Holy grail The gods must be crazy 10 things I hate amount you Call me by your name As far as tv shows: Lucifer (surprisingly!!?! Who would’ve thought!!!!) Avatar The good place Heartstopper Young Royals Teen titans Just off the top of my head, I’m sure I’ll be revisiting most of these for the rest of my life
You're right about Roose Bolton..I think its something about his voice.. You are also in for a treat with season 4..objectively, it's one of the best..
After watching Season One on HBO I downloaded all the old audiobooks to listen to while biking. I learned about the Red Wedding on a crazy trail and I was so upset at what I was listening to I nearly crashed. I had to pull off the road and just lay there. It was a bad time. Love the reactions
I think Melisandre does know about the White Walkers. She thinks Stanis is the only one that can defeat them, as the prophecy tells her a prince will defeat them. She probably just didn't know when, and the letter said the army of the dead is marching now, so the urgency is up.
Game of Thrones, especially episode 3x9, will probably always stay with me. There was only one show before that had an even stronger effect on me for many many years, and that was Twin Peaks. Highly recommended by the way!
