I had one just like yours in the early 2000s. I bought out of a feild for $100, rebuilt engine turbo everything, 9:1 compression, and ussually ran 18-20psi boost with adjustable boost vale and extra fuel injector, remapped ecu. Never dynoed it but, there wasn't a stock corvette, or built 4 banger in Tampa that could outrun it. Hold to yours I wish I could buy it. Mine had the authenticity plate signed by Carrol Shelby and #561 off his line. Great cars. God bless and be safe brother.

I use to have an '87 Shelby-Z. Heavily modified. Bored .40 over, ported/polished top end, Super 60 mod, stage 2 ECM, 20+ PSI, and so much more. Basically did everything up to needing the 5th injector before the tb for wot. Insanely fast. Loved that car. Divorce is a wonderful thing. LOL

@@TheMoparGarage if I could post pics you'd see how sweet it was. Put a lot into that car. About a month after finishing it I was listing it for sale. Wife and I separated, both got apartments, no garage anymore to properly store it. We both sacrificed some things we really didn't want to. Mine was my Shelby, hers was my paycheck. LOL

Thats awesome my friend. I had a 88 Daytona Shelby z intercooled. I think stock 187 or 88 hp. I got it with 28k and it had full leather almost mint condition. I should of kept it. I just did the valve thing to get a few more pounds of boost. If you went to far it would buck and cut off the fuel.

I am a Chrysler dodge tech for over 40 years and the trans takes ATF + 4 . Another thing i recommend is to drill a 1/8 inch hole on the thermostat and have the hole at 12 o clock cause what happens sometimes is on a cold start the temp will rise to much and if it keeps doing it you will end up with a blown head gasket . Here is a mod if you can find one is that the turbo 2 Daytona had a radiator with an intercooler built in . That should bolt right up .
@TheMoparGarage

I had heard that about the thermostat. Thanks!

C/S for the 1986 model year and only in the 1986 model year stood for Carroll Shelby Model years 1988/89/90/91 The C/S stood for Competition Series, The color badging of the C/S for 1986 was a orangery red or gold color, The darker red tone is found on the 88 thru 91 models, Gold was not available in those model years. The rarest model for 1986 C/S is Black/Gold with the light tan leather interior with the Shelby enthusiast seat a total of 12 were produced, 3 manual and 3 automatics marketed under the Dodge nameplate and sold in the USA. 3 manual and 3 automatics were marketed under the Chrysler nameplate and sold in Canada. The 12 were all T-topped optioned and had gold pin striping around the door window frame. With that said the rarest Daytona model sold were 36 1990 C/S VNT's ( variable nozzle turbo ). Of those 36 they were spread out between USA and Canada,Marketed as Dodge for USA Or Chrysler for Canada. And yes I do know which cities they were sold in. If you look under the carpet underlay on the passenger side front you may still have the production broadcast build sheet when the car was made providing that your floor wasn't repaired or coolant leak from the heater core or flood damaged. All the information on your car is on that sheet.

Hi good to see an 86 still on the road. I had a 86 blue C/S myself bought new and lost it when I got rear ended, It was the most reliable car I ever owned, I cross crossed the continent quite a few times with it, Got great gas mileage and had a blast driving it as well as owning it. I miss it very much still. I do have an 87 Shelby Z and a 86 New Yorker turbo currently LOVE THE 80's Turbo chryslers. The one thing I'll let you know about. The on board diagnostics with the key in the ignition the cars computer will tell you whats wrong with it, Cycle the ignition switch on/off 3 times ( without starting engine )then leave it in the on position, The power loss lamp will flash codes to tell you whats wrong. Also the turbo boost isn't limited to 7.5 psi occasionally under the right conditions ( air temp/ barometric pressures / fuel octane / altitude ) the boost levels can reach higher then 7.5 psi it can go as high as 12 psi safely before the computer will react and retard the timing and fuel via electronic wastegate actuator/controller located on the passenger shock tower to prevent over boost/engine damage. Your car is actually called the Carroll Shelby edition of the turbo Z line up. If your car had the power drivers seat with the power seat wings on the bottom and on the seat back it was called Shelby Z there was only 500 1986 Dodge Daytona Turbo Z's fitted with this option. Thought you'd like some extra info.

And CVT transmission fluid and ATF transmission fluid work pretty good if you mix them together depending on how thick it is, but I had a 1989 Daytona, Pacifica and the coolest thing about the one I had is I had. I’m pretty sure it was the iroc or the Z body kit that I took off a stock one had to flip up headlights. It was lime green, and it was the coolest little car ever we put a little bigger turbo on it, and it got almost 300 hp to the wheels. That thing was like a dang go kart to be honest I love them cars. It was my first car when I got my drivers license.

@TheMoparGarage 3 месяца назад
It ended up being a wastegate vacuum solenoid issue. In the next video I hooked it up direct to the intake manifold and it’s all good.
@1909torino
@1909torino 3 месяца назад
Ditch that shitty log intake for at least a common block 1 piece intake. Put a zener diode on the MAP so it limits the voltage the ECU sees so when you go into over boost your ignition won't cut out. Get a rising rate adjustable fuel pressure regulator, a boost controller coming off of your waste gate, 40lb injectors, a walbro 225lph fuel pump and a front mount intercooler. A wideband AFR guage along with an aftermarket boost guage. A 2.5" to 3" exhaust, you'll see a monster difference, soon you'll smoke the stock clutch. 😋

@TheMoparGarage 3 месяца назад
Haha just keeping this one stock. They’re delicate enough as-is! I figured out the over boosting issue in a later video, it’s just going to be a cars and coffee cruiser. There are some sweet builds out there that people make out of these things though!

I already swapped it when I rebuilt the engine. It didn’t turn out to be leaking, it was just dripping down to the pump housing from the bleed plug at the top of the head.

I had an 86 and an 89 and they both would peg that boost gage. So not sure why you feel its over boosting? Im pretty sure its stock with a 30 second over boost.
@TheMoparGarage
@TheMoparGarage 16 дней назад
Stock is 7 lbs of boost. A stock engine can’t take more than 12 or so. Some cars are built to take 20 plus, maybe yours is built up?
@damontroch4765
@damontroch4765 16 дней назад
No both were bone stock I had an 86 and it would peg 14 on the boost gage but if you were climbing a grade with it pegged in 30 seconds the boost would drop down to 7 on the boost gauge

You are reading to much into that Gauge. Find a stock owners manual for that car. It will tell you right in it. 7 on that gauge is like normal driving lol

My wife and I had the same car. Black with gold rims and T-tops. She didn't like when l would drive it and ladies would wave at me with her beside me. Who's that? l don't know, maybe she's waving because she likes the car. Her cousin borrowed it and hit a deer, end of that story. But hey! l also had a 1973 Plymouth satellite Sebring plus. It only had the 318 but was still a looker. Young and dumb l traded it in for a 1985 mercury capri turbo.

If that’s the 2.5 L, there’s a cool safety feature in that motor if it was to jump time even with the pistons all the way up in the vowels all the way open the Pistons will never touch the vowels because that is an awesome feature because then things do jump time if you do not pay attention to the timing, but the safety feature is crazy because it’s thousands of an inch between the valves and pistons into all of the people that are going to say no no yes it is a fact if you look it up, it is a fact it’s impossible to bend on a 2.5 L Daytona motor and that’s a fact

In that vacuum leak is probably them stupid rubber elbows then things are so trash. That is one of the stupidest things they put on them cars instead of using just regular fasteners they use rubber elbows, which are garbage and sometimes when you’re building boost, they’ll blow off and cause it’s run like crap and that could be why It’s idling high and they say they only have 140 hp which I don’t believe. I believe it has 210 at least because I’m cars will throw you into the seat definitely fast and I seen somebody smoke damn GMC typhoons and that car will smoke a grand international because four cylinders are extremely impressive
