Firstly, LOVING your fringe swept to the side...totally opens up your face and looks very youthful and fresh. Secondly, but just as importantly, Loved everything you made! Your Lora dress is just beautiful and that quilt! Oh my goodness!!! Yes, I think the baby quilt was the perfect choice, and it is certainly family heirloom-worthy, in my opinion. Glad you're back on RU-vid sharing your creative journey. Always enjoy seeing what you've been up to. xxx

Nice safe with the ribbon! What a lovely dress. I’m not a fan of pinafores but that blue cord is striking and perfect for your weather. There’s nothing as elegant as a bias cut skirt. Yours is beautiful. The infant outfit is so perfect! The frustration keeps me from quilting. You’ve been busy.

Thank you Barbara! Haha yes quilting can be pretty tiring! I don't do it very often these days - too much fun making clothes! But it is satisfying to finish a project and quite rewarding to see recipients enjoying them too. They'd better anyway - they take so long! Only VERY special people are given quilt gifts! 😆

Good to see you again. Your Instagram pic in that dress came up in my feed and I just love it. The pinafore reminds me of a cord pinafore I had in highschool in the late 70's. I was devastated when my Dad tossed it in the washer and dryer and shrunk it beyond saving. I might have to make that pattern as therapy 😂. Your quilt is stunning despite your challenges. Great pivot to what worked for you. Look forward to your next video whenever it appears😊

Thanks Nancy! The pinafore is honestly so comfortable and I really love it. My next one is ready to be sewn up this week but I'm not sure if I'll have the weather to wear it this year. Having said that, Melbourne is so changeable so it's quite possible it will get worn all through the year, as the next one is in a lighter fabric, a cotton/hemp mix from memory. I was so happy with the quilt - some of my absolute favourite prints in there, so hopefully it's treasured for many years!

So many gorgeous makes! My favourites were the Nerida Hansen party dress and the bias skirt. I’ve loved the bias skirt pattern since your linen makes for the cruise, I really have to buy it now😅. I sew a lot with viscose (rayon) because it feels so nice to wear in hot weather. But it is a challenge, to get to know its intricacies and behaviour; it gets easier the more you sew with it. I always struggled with rolled hems with viscose, until I started basting guide lines with my machine, roll the hem under twice in my fingers (using the hem guideline, which you could pre-iron on the fold) and pin, sew and then iron, removing the basting. Your niece’s gifts are so precious❤
@SoSarahSewed
@SoSarahSewed 8 месяцев назад
Great tips with the viscose, thank you! Yes, it's a really good pattern, the Clo skirt, and I know the linen ones will get a heap of wear over the summer! It's my goal to wear the floral one a couple of times this month - I think it's so pretty and feels a little bit "special" so I've only worn it once since making it months ago!

So nice to see you again Sarah. I finally have worked out instagram and follow you there. All of your makes are lovely. Your Flora dress looks great on you, I have trouble with turning thin loops so steer away from them. The knitting bag looks great I will have to make one. The baby quilt is so beautiful. Very ingenious to do double sided. A great keepsake for your little niece. I love how you persevere with your projects. ❤️

Hi Denise, thank you so much! I hope you're enjoying instagram. I am MUCH better at being active over there than here, but I will try and be a bit better this year! About to upload a new video now actually! I think turning loops is my most dreaded sewing technique! If I can avoid it, I will! Thank you for your lovely comment. x

I love the pinafore! I would get a lot of wear out of something like this. I can see myself changing it up with different scarves and cardigan and a simple tee underneath. The advantage, I imagine, would be getting a few wears out of it before it needs to be laundered. The bias skirt looks great as well. And the quilt is beautiful. I love the tiny bit of pink popping up on the green side.
@SoSarahSewed
@SoSarahSewed 8 месяцев назад
Thank you! Yes, I don't think I'll have to wash my pinafore often at all. And I'm currently making a lighter one which will hopefully mean I have one to wear on slightly warmer days!

Loop turning is easiest with a long skewer and a straw (or the fancy prym tool) also just make short ones rather than one long tube. Love the knitting bag! Nice to see you ❤
@SoSarahSewed
@SoSarahSewed 8 месяцев назад
I think I have the fancy skewer / straw thing but in this particular case it is such a skinny tube the straw didn't fit! 😫 It has definitely helped with wider tube-turning though. 😊 Thank you for watching and commenting!

Wow. Fabulous quilt as well as baby cardigan and pinafore. Instead of buying a loop turner, simply sew a longer length of thin ribbon or cord inside, careful to not catch in the seam but fix at the top. Once the seam is trimmed, simply pull the ribbon/cord through to turn the strip.
@SoSarahSewed
@SoSarahSewed 8 месяцев назад
Thank you! I have tried this technique but unsuccessfully, however, that was with just a normal thread. Using something stronger like a ribbon sounds like a good idea - I will give it a go!

I also can't turn skinny loops. Even WITH a loop turner with the grabby thing! Many tears have been shed. Many things have been thrown! 😅I thought your quilt looked beautiful all laid out in one piece, but I absolutely love how you made it double sided! What a wonderful gift and keepsake for your sister and her family. 💙
@SoSarahSewed
@SoSarahSewed 8 месяцев назад
Oh gosh, maybe I'll save my money then on the loop turner. I understand completely. I should look at my watch's heart rate monitor when I try and turn loops - I feel my stress levels rise so high!! There's gotta be a better way!! 😂

Just found you... Loved all your makes.. Here in Canada a pinafore is called a jumper but not matter what I love the one you made. I also love the bag you made for your mom.. its amazing and I have already ordered that pattern.. Your quilt is wonderful.. I liked it the way you had it laid out originally but a double sided baby quilt is awesome.. good job..😃

Your Lora dress is gorgeous, I hadn’t seen the pattern, it’s very versatile. Don’t buy the loop turner with the catch, it’s even harder to use, the catch often comes undone halfway down. Your idea to use ribbon was good. I hate sewing with viscose, it has a life of its own! I have heard that using spray starch is helpful and washes out. Maybe worth trying. Your pinafore is lovely too. Really enjoyed your vlog!
@SoSarahSewed
@SoSarahSewed 8 месяцев назад
Thank you Mary. That is good advice about the loop turner - I'll just give up on that idea then too! 😅 Yeah, I don't think I'll be rushing to sew with viscose again, unless it's blended with something else. I made a linen-viscose dress once and that was a dream to work with! I'll steer clear of 100% viscose from now on!

Great makes! Stunning bias skirt in particular! I love your pink linen knitting bag, too. I am a teacher, too, and am looking for a 'teacher bag' pattern. Something to cart my books and marking around school. Do you have any suggestions? Your knitting bag could be modified perhaps? ❤
@SoSarahSewed
@SoSarahSewed 8 месяцев назад
Thank you! Oh a teacher bag... I actually just use the Costa Tote by Helen's Closet (free pattern) for carrying my books between classes and home. It's a really good size and the straps are the perfect length. The outside pockets also come in handy! I don't think the draw-string one would work so well, it's not the right shape on the inside. 😊

@Originallyadressmaker
@Originallyadressmaker 8 месяцев назад
There is no reason why you can’t make multiple loops, it doesn’t have to be one long strip. You can stitch a long strip (longer than you need) and then cut it up into shorter lengths and turn them seperately.
@SoSarahSewed
@SoSarahSewed 8 месяцев назад
That could be easier, I might try that one time! I can't even get the very end to turn though, so I'd probably still struggle! I really am quite hopeless at it.

I am loving the current pattern releases by indie companies. Why? Because they are so long, therefore I don't have to add length to legs or skirts. I'm noticeably taller than you, 21 cm, so I love long designs such as your pinafore.
@SoSarahSewed
@SoSarahSewed 8 месяцев назад
Ahh yes! That is quite a height difference. Luckily, shortening patterns is probably the easiest "adjustment" to make so even though I have to do it for most patterns, it's simple enough. 😄
