That’s fantastic! Was your scope a scout scope from Burris? I find that with the 5x Leupold scope that I’m limited past 500yds. But with the right rail a standard scope can be used to nail out 1000yds. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

@@semperfi_ny Burris makes a great scout scope. I used to have a GSR in 5.56 that it was mounted on. Rock solid scope. Sold the GSR as I went a different path for my 5.56 bolt gun. But the scout will be on an upcoming build

Same! I can't think of any situation where I wouldn't prefer my AR. But I love the concept of the scout rifle and can think of a few specific situations where it would have a significant advantage...mainly heavy wooded forests

@@WestCoasHaze If the AR-15 was classified as Non-Res in Canada, i would be running a .308 AR for my "Do All" rifle. Back when Col Cooper was developing the idea of what a scout rifle was, the AR platform was stagnant in its development. It wasn't until a decade later that the removal of the carry handle was being considered for use with a C-More sight or telescoping optics. IMO, a good 16" barrel .308 AR beats the traditional definition of a scout rifle. But on the other hand, no country thinks of the general purpose rifle/scout rifle to be a "scary" concept, so you can find one pretty much anywhere you go on the planet.

Set yourself up to succeed, TALK YOURSELF IN TO IT.

I say get one if you can they are fun at the range and a 308 will put most game on the ground in North America.

I am sorry to hear that your state will not allow ammo by mail. :( But on the other hand if you need one rifle to own, this is that rifle. If you have others that fill your needs then this rifle is just a nice to have. I've been using this rifle a lot more recently and really carrying it around everywhere, working snap shots and longer shots with it.

Absolutely, i don't why you would want a rifle stock pack, as you have your own solutions. As for me, having everything with the rifle, means everything is with the rifle. I can just pick up the rifle and have at least 20rds of ammo. As for the tools and dials, i can pack more in my day pack or if i am at the range, the dials / tools are right there for the ammo choice - not forgetting them at home or in a vehicle.

I started with a base paint application and just added extra paint as i wanted to match my local environment. The base is still a little light though. Might strip it and repaint this year.

I had to go with Leupold QRW medium height rings to clear the bell. As for irons, i cannot see them in my scope, sits a bit too high for cowitness. I've practices just taking off the scope and reinstalling it with minimal zero shift...... hmmm that would make a good video!

Hello from Canada! I painted the stock myself.

The Stock looks really awesome, do you remember which paint you use? Did you use anything as a template for the pattern?

@@nicholasmartinbjj No templates, started with a light sage green and added color from there based on my location. I cut the stencils myself based on a rough idea of what digi cam would look like from a distance. Then as that came together, then i added brushstrokes of various colors. Base colors were sage green, brown, forest green, then added black as needed and a top coat.

Of course there are cheaper rifles, but "better" is defined by what the user wants the rifle to do. Overall this rifle gives me a very strong action, a controlled feed system, detachable box mags, irons and a good accurate barrel. For myself, i want a rifle that uses the same mags as my precision rifles, back up sights in case i smash my scope and a rock solid action. Accuracy is very good and i like the handling. Additionally, this rifle can take the abuse i put it through. For yourself, your qualities and requirements may be different for what you want out of a rifle. Good alternatives are the Mossberg MVP, the Savage Scout rifle, or like my Ruger American in 7.62x39. Lots of options out there.

I have been using a ruger scout for a few years. It's a great rifle for hog hunting, once that bolt smoothes out a little. About a week ago I went to cycle the bolt, and it came out of the reciever. The bolt release assembly fell out in the grass. I called ruger, and they are sending me new parts. It may be a good idea to take your bolt stop assembly apart and locktite the screw that holds it together.

@@nstscanada2103 Slightly off topic, but that little Ruger in 7.62x39 is a heck of a rifle. It's handy, relatively light, and, even with steel-cased Russian ammo, surprisingly accurate. I scouted mine up with a 16" picatinny rail and a Vortex scout scope and it's a cool shooter, with such low recoil that I can shoot it practically all day without fatigue.

@@theoriginalDAL357 Great set up! I use a Primary Arms 1-6x raptor with the 7.62x39 reticle. I took a page from Lucky Gunner and set up a replacement red dot for my optic should it go down. Additionally for a bit of extra horsepower, i found a great load with 123gr Hornady SST that runs ~2400fps out of the barrel with surprisingly good accuracy.
