Can you discuss your grip in more detail. I feel like it is such a crucial element of the swing and really impacts everything else. Just the slightest tweak one way or the other really matters. Love your channel.
Hi David. That's why we should stop tweaking it and keep the one we like. It will be more videos about the grip but I hardly change anyones grip, only if it's too strong. 👍
I do the same thing and I do not know why. I was actually trying to change it until I started watching your videos. Then I decided, if it works for you it is ok for me.
They are bent but becomes almost straight and going back down they bend again. They are naturally helping my hands move up and down. If the question is how much bend we need it’s going to be hard to answer but we need them to be able to both bend and extend during the swing. I have never tried to manipulate my lower body and I only see it as a support to what my hands are doing.
Matt Kuchar is another who lifts and hovers the club before taking it back. Also, several hover the driver. Brittany Lincicome and Jack Nicklaus hovered their club as well. So you're in good company. lol
Grande 👍 my opinion: if the iron touchs the ground in set up take away mean that its ready for fat shot because the low point Is there .. and not after the golfball. Ciao dall'Italia 👍🏌️
Habits can be good or bad…this one of yours is a good one for you I agree…we should leave that one alone When we build a good swing …we created some good habits …no matter what it looks like It’s ours Good video Marcus
Hi Marcus I’m going through all your videos they’re absolutely fascinating and frankly quite brilliant. Have you done a lesson on where your feet are pointing in relation to the target ? I’m guessing you open them slightly to your right while swinging out to the left ?
Nobody can say that his swing is not good. But I can’t say that it’s not a swing for me. I don’t like the shot shape and I’m not built like a rubber man like he is. He hits it long with little effort and his bank account loves his swing. 😁
Man you are killing my swing in a great way. Just trying this for a few days and it's like the light bulb went off in my head. By the way, the lift to start your back swing is useful because it prevents lateral slide and uses gravity to help you to come down on the ball. I'm grooving this in my swing will use it in my waggle.
@@GolfwithMarcusEdblad I knew I had heard or read the same thing about Nicklaus. I remember his answer being exactly like yours in deep rough. But he said from anywhere because resting the club on the ground before the take away increases the chance of "catching " the club on any uneven piece of ground or grass and causing the takeaway to be unrhythmic.......or NOT smooth. He didn't like catching or stubbing the club on anything. It helps me with putting from time to time.
Your normal iron shot you clip the ball very clean and there is not much divot. When I started playing as a child I went all out not to take a divot - mostly because if I caught it wrong it hurt. Especially as the only clubs back then were blades. I still only brush the ball off the turf and if my memory is correct this is how Tiger Woods played in his early days. Thumping out doormat divots does not give you good results.
Hi Alan. Hitting it from the inside it will hardly ever be any deep divots. 6 iron and longer I hardly have any riots at all, feels more like a brush towards the ground.
Hi Marcus, Henrik Stenson in my opinion is going upwards because he is doing the spiral staircase movement he learnt from Pete Cowen, i also do the same move... what do you think Marcus. by the way i love your content.........
@@GolfwithMarcusEdblad Marcus im doing the same move because i do the spiral move also,i noticed it on video so im almost sure its correct, would be great if you also could maybe find out. your teaching is true golf, i keep telling people about you tube pros, all they do is study positions in the swing, as in its all static positions... so refreshing to know about you Marcus......
I tried it a couple times and was topping the ball. went back to grounding my clubs. With that said I do struggle out of bunkers and tall grass because I can't ground my clubs. I guess I have "too much mind" and can't visualize my ball at impact.
I watch your body when you do the lift at the start; your body--not the arms/hands-- legs straightening, seems to raise the club. Your downswing seems to put you right on it, again, with a down iron move. I like it. Not sure if anyone else sees anything? Puts you in motion; I think.
So Marcus. I been trying your swing over the last 6 months and the timing has not been good. But saw this video before I went to play 18. Did the lift, drilled it dead Center of fairway (first hole requires slight fade I’m a lefty) . Oh! first six holes dead straight and where it needed to be. I think the lifting allows the up swing made easier. Before I was constantly swinging under the ball. The lift allowed me to hit in the middle of ball and left to right. So like you said try all things and find what works for your swing! So thanks 😊
Every swing has a personal signature Before you I had watched a few videos from Eureka golf. He like you had an open stance and the ball back in his stance. He promotes more weight on his front leg. He does promote a push swing thou from watching it appears he does. Take a look for no other reason than he has a unique and humorous description of his thoughts. Good golf on that side of the pond🎉
Thanks for the clarification. I think it helps to create a better ball-to-eye coordination and promotes to hit down as you need to sit down during the down swing and move up after the impact. I know Matt Kuchar does it.
I have always hovered all my clubs. It gives me confidence to go down after the ball without the fear of hitting it fat. Very much a head game to me but it works. Its not how but how many.
It’s not a bad thing. My setup is having the club head off the ground almost above the ball, my coach always say you need to create more space and height in your backswing. Because most bad shot were caused by lack of space to move around. Then visually also physically feels easier and more relaxed during down swing, then you have space to go down over the ball then touch the ground.
After your idiosyncratic lifting of the club at setup, do you start your takeaway with your lead hand? your lead shoulder? both hands together? your trail hand? your trail shoulder? or does it even matter? thank you, Marcus!
We want to prepare to push through the ball so we start with a pull with the trail arm. Here we have the whole back swing: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vFZ9iIyhyIo.htmlsi=E8p0FrGdoRMomYMd
That idiosyncrasy does help with timing, it will also enhance the hand/eye coordination; in some strange way. The motion can be analogous to a pre shot waggle. A bit like hammering a nail, you position the hammer and take an alignment test; then make the stroke to pound the nail. It is effective, and I believe for a more seasoned player who is having difficulty making solid contact; especially with the driver, your preshot routine is a very good one. I believe it flows easily from your hockey background.
It's your version of a forward press. I used to lift the club then push it forward and then took it into the backswing using the momentum of the club as the club dropped back. It took the tension out of my backswing and as a result, the rest of my swing. Whatever works for the golfer is a good thing.
