Yes!! It’s easy to have a cool home when you have unlimited budget, way more interesting to see what people can do when they are living on a more standard income
yesss a pt 2 please - I love seeing a window into other people's homes who maybe have come into their design eye more recently or don't have a big budget. Very inspiring and homey.
Yeah it is more realistic when you have more normal sized homes and things that feel a bit more possible/accessible than when you have a million dollar interior designer or something
Paige it would be great, if you have permission from the owners, to put all these photos on Pinterest board. I’m so inspired by these and the vignettes are just so beautiful. I would love to be able to look at them and pin to my board 😊
I love that you’re giving a platform to beautiful, creative, and realistic homes. Most interior instagram pages only feature super expensive apartments that have togos or bellinis… 🙄
I never feel upset and offended when people are like "I would never have this in my home" like, yes, express yourself! Share your honest opinions! It's the "and you shouldn't either" that can get my back up, especially with something that's a necessity for someone you live with and care about. Yes, cat trees are ugly. So are C-Pap machines, and wheelchairs, and kids' backpacks, and highchairs, and car seats, but if you live with someone who needs those things, you love the family member more than you love aesthetics and you suck it up.
"I would never have this in my home because it's not my style" is completely reasonable and no one should be offended. "Don't ever put that in your home because XYZ", where the item is optional to peoples' lives, is really helpful. "Don't ever put X in your house. Just don't." is not helpful and I could understand why people may be a little upset.
I also didn't' like her comment "ooh cat owners are intense...". I am not a cat owner - don't have a cat, never owned a cat - and yet I understood what people were disagreeing about and also shared my opinion.
This might be my favorite video you've done recently! So fun to get a look inside real people's homes and I liked how you brought attention to unique features :) I also appreciate the mix of larger houses and smaller spaces as well as minimalism and maximalism.
I certainly wasn’t upset I appreciate your honesty and it makes me laugh at myself and the way popular culture, consumerism and cliche sucks us in. I love it when you call these things out. Makes me smile. My ego is not offended by your opinion. Everyone can say what they like and don’t. The whole point of what you do is being Paige, having a strong sense of style and personal taste. Like I commented last time I thought I got off lightly but even if I hadn’t, that’s what we signed up for Paige. Expressing who you are and sharing how you’d style homes and your home xxx never ever dial it down it’s what we like about you. You’re genuine and you have a strong sense of style. Xx
abundance of glass and/or stainless steel in small pockets of a space (especially if the items are functional too) is so gorgeous, i basically have a fetish for glass and stainless steel. it makes any vintage space feel occupied and smart
This is a great format! Please continue:) What I would also love: you look at „problem areas“ in your subscribers homes, and suggest what to do with it. Because sometimes you have a litte weird corner where nothing really fits, and maybe someone else (Paige!) has an amazing idea how to solve it…. Have a lovely day ❤
Thank you so much Paige for your opinion on my home 14:27. It really means so much hearing this from someone who’s into Interiors 🌞 Btw can I order the pillows in Germany?
Your home looks very nice 😊 I would want to sit on the window sill & read or scroll Through my phone if you had a cushion on there with the fresh air through the open windows 😊 I also wondered if that silver tray was holding a tea kettle? It looked different but chic
I love the mix of old, new, vintage, antique, modern. I also love when people have curated non expensive stuff but that have nice design (like the orange folding chairs in the small dining room). Good interior design needs a good eye not lots of money (same as fashion)...
I think it's just called a landing area at 6:12 but I'm absolutely in love with that little sitting area for maybe a rest halfway up the stairs or just an unconventional place to hangout!!! I love!!
Depends on the age of the home! In a very old home they are "Coffin Corners", because when people died in bed, a spacious corner was needed to get the coffin up and down the stairs. My 1777 home in MD had one.
@@barrettd45 I read an article written by an architect recently where he mentions a book of builders terminology and slang, written in 1804. A Half Coffin was a corner designed for a 45 degree coffin angle, and a Full Coffin was larger, allowing for a horizontal coffin. If I remember correctly, these terms were in the "slang" category. My 1777 house had a Half Coffin stairway - not big enough for a chair, so we put a chest of drawers in it. It was an odd, awkward spot otherwise.
I've done interior design... As far as anyone who questions your credentials I disagree... Design is probably one percent "learned terms", the rest is a person with a "good eye".... Knowing what works together and "makes sense"... It can't be learned.... Love your perspective , keep up the great work. Take care.
I'm a design enthusiast; not a designer. That said, I do know a lot. I once had a job in a studio with licensed interior designers. Their degrees were no predictor of talent. Out of 13 designers, I'd say a few of them were truly innately talented. Some of the greatest celebrity designers you see in magazines never went to design school, though of course they honed their skills. I respect the degree, but get so tired of the gatekeeping.
@@lorrilewis2178 I totally agree... I almost said it was "innate" in my prior comment... Good for you, It's an art to creates pleasant spaces... Not a skill... Take care.
@@joec5544g Yes! I think we're born with it and then we have to refine the innate ability. And yes, it's an art, which is why I tire of the gatekeeping.
That all red space is the exact color of my entire hallway. Ceilings, stairs, walls doors and trim. It looks like the velvet lining inside of a jewelry box and I love it!
No why cater to haters If you dont the dry humor of what is Paige then don’t watch I LOve your style LOve you humor LOve everything you do Your the best Home person on the web!! So there haters - go away 😊
Who the hell was upset? Was one of your best videos, although actually they're all the best. You're my favourite interior design content creator and I've watched them all 😄 xxx
I truly appreciate this little slice of the internet! Paige, thanks for sharing your specific take on taste and making interiors feel accessible to me in a way that no one has before. I'm sure it's tough to navigate so much feedback from so many voices when you feel like you're just a "gal!" Just know, you're one instrument in a symphony and are making impact in people's lives in a wry, relatable, and inspiring way. Also, the bedroom with green accents and the windowsill is GORGEOUS!! Thanks for sharing.
I like how you reminded us that this channel isn't necessarily like other popular interior design channels that are almost like a course. I think your strengths are in speaking in an entertaining way and sharing thoughts and opinions, while you learn and grow. Less teacher/student and more advanced student suggesting things for an intermediate student, or friends to friends.
Everyone should just do what they like. I’m old now and do what makes me happy. You’re a quirky girl and that’s a compliment! I enjoy all your videos. I’m a different Lynne from Canada than the person above.
Regarding the stairway landing - depends on the age of the home! In a very old home they are "Coffin Corners", because when people died in bed, a spacious corner was needed to get the coffin up and down the stairs. My 1777 home in MD had one. Otherwise, it's just called a landing. :)
I just love coming here to just get more inspo and design food for thought. The more input I have, the more ideas - it makes me see things in a new way. Do you Paige. I love it
I'm part of the velvet couch brigade, but duslike any and all cat things/homes/cat pee smell, don't always share the same opinion ad Paige(but do you ever share ALL opinions with anyone??) I think even negative people/haters come back because they like her
love the video!! ❤my bedroom was sadly not included hahaha it is fun how everyone is such a tulip fan . Honestly, i found really interesting that you show "simple" homes, because let's be honest, is what most of us can get.. so it is more real
this was incredible. it's so much fun to see relatable, GOOD design. so inspiring, I immediately want to update some things in my home because of this.
i love love love wallpaper as backsplash. You can play around with colors and patterns in a way you can't with a traditional tile backsplash. I'm in love with all the pictures from that house. Looks cozy and lived in. The staircase is gorgeous
Paige, I find you very refreshing. My taste leans simple lines, modern furniture, and about half of the furnishings are high end walnut and teak mid century modern. Your taste isn’t mine and you have things in your home I wouldn’t put in mine. Are you mad at me for that? No. People who are so easily offended need to chill out. They’re what’s wrong with this world. I love watching you.
Paige, I love it when you trigger me. In all seriousness. Interiors are fiercely personal and it’s kinda like having our whole personality on display for all to see. It can be kinda vulnerable. Speaking only for myself, it’s good for me to feel that defensiveness and the need to justify my decisions and ask myself what in the actual heck that’s all about? It’s your opinion. That is literally all it is. You’re not going to send us all to some design purgatory where we will be lashed lol. And you’re nowhere near as vicious as my mom and sister and I are when we look at interiors. Anytime someone is confident and unapologetic in their opinion, it’s going to trigger people who are in any way shape or form insecure in their own opinions. Please don’t censor yourself. You’re not malicious. At least, I don’t get that vibe from you whatsoever. You seem like a tender hearted sort. A tender heart with opinions about interiors. ❤
I really like this video. I can take all the inspiration I want from pinterest, but my house will never look like that. I live here, and so does my dog and my plants, and I don't actually have an unlimited budget. I love seeing styled and designed homes that are still clearly homes that someone normal lives in
im in really need of an episode of my subs sent me items they are thinking of buying for their homes.. because of a bookshelf that i found that im really in to it, but have dark wood and its going to be in a dark corridor or just going with a tipical white ikeas one to balance a little bit
I love hearing about other people's interior design opinions, even though mine usually don't overlap very much. I describe my style as Victorian witchy, but dark academia is close too. I will probably never have white walls, because they literally give me migraines and I really dislike white furniture for myself (probably because my mum wouldn't let me have anything else), but I can still appreciate when other people have those. Edited to remove an extra "who".
You and I have pretty much the same taste. All the things you hate, I hate too, and all the things you love, I love too. I love wood, especially oak and dark wood. When I was young, I wanted a "Rooms To Go" home where everything matched, but now I just love mixing and matching styles and colors. I love picking up the colors in a painting to pick accessories.
I really love how you took some of these examples no matter how simple and found good ideas in them. I thought your previous video was very funny. I just cannot get offended, by anything you say, I guess I share your sense of humor.
Looking forward to the home update! Im just a gal that likes interior design too and I prefer these videos to the ~hate~ ones. Though I imagine the engagement of those is much better since it creates discussion and dissent. Try not to listen to the few that go too far, most people are just using your video as a jump off point to discuss home design
The fact that you’re wearing a Lasa Pamilya shirt just made me love you more 😭 echoing other comments as well - love ALL your vids, pls ignore the haters.
Paige, never apologize for being real on the internet. I first subscribed because of your genuine and unique delivery style (and you’re a Sparty 💚🤍). I love your raw content, appreciate your eye for design, and I SPECIFICALLY admire your truthful & honest feedback. Don’t fear the people who show up with hurtful and irrelevant trolling as none of us take them seriously to begin with. That’s all. =]
Crikey, these homes are lovely.... This is why I like Apartment Therapy, you get to peep inside so many different homes... The previous video you posted was how you were tired of HGTV where all the homes look the same, as if folk were looking at resale value ( I agree), this is more interesting..
Paige, this was GORGEOUS!! I would use those photos as decor in my apartment if I could print them! Please, consider making this a series (Honor Luca sent me to your channel, and I'm so glad she did!)
Hey Paige, I actually like that you "stir the pot" and demonstrate your attraction and repulsion for design elements. It gives another perspective that's authentic, whether constructive or not and I find that unique in an interior design channel
I don’t know if it’s just me, but I feel like these mid century type of spaces aren’t really “unique” anymore? I’m not saying that they aren’t beautiful and that you shouldn’t do what you like with your space, I just have noticed this almost trendy “not trendy” type of aesthetic that a lot of interior RU-vidrs tend to like. It’s basically “don’t be trendy and basic, do this instead” but it also ends up becoming kind of trendy amongst the design RU-vidrs community. I’m not really sure how to describe it, but it just feels like a very specific type of vintage style that is considered “cool” and “unique” and “not trendy”, and it’s almost always this very masculine, mid century type of look, more simple furniture and very little to no ornate features that you’d see in a more traditional style with genuine antique pieces. And I’ve seen it so often that it’s almost starting to look trendy? I feel like the whole “just buy vintage” thing that I hear so many of them say is kind of untrue, because 9 times out of 10 it feels as if they’re talking about a very specific type of vintage, and it’s almost never Victorian or Edwardian style of interiors. I really appreciate people like Drew (LoneFox) McKenna and Caroline Wrinkler for showing the beauty and uniqueness of more traditional spaces, and that you can still make those spaces your own. Traditional vintage needs more love, as not all of us like MCM. This isn’t hate, I really enjoy Paige’s content. It’s more of just an observation I’ve made not just from her content but with a lot of people in the interior design side of RU-vid.
You're not alone. But I have to disagree that there are many people on YT with Paige's more modern style. I haven't seen that. I mostly see styles similar to Paige's on Pinterest and IG. But maybe I need to look harder? I followed Paige specifically because I didn't find anything like her style on this site and I see far more traditional antique-y homes featured on YT. It felt unique to me. Fresh. I've seen glam, farmhouse and farmhouse adjacent styles, traditional old styles, people trying to copy Studio McGhee, the very trendy post modern style popular with Gen Z. But I subbed to Paige specifically because I hadn't seen anything like this on YT at the time. HOWEVER, I still wholeheartedly agree that there needs to be way way way more variety in general that are more personal and unique no matter what the base style is.
I suppose the point I was intending to make is that I feel even if these spaces are eclectic and unique in their own ways, as we all have our own personal tastes, the base style still seems to always lean very masculine and MCM, and when they reference vintage design it’s almost always this very specific type of vintage and era. Vintage is a very broad term.. there’s many different eras and design styles that come with them, but sometimes it feels like this particular type of aesthetic is what people are talking about when they say vintage, but on the other hand will say that traditional vintage pieces are bad or ugly. So a lot of it is going to boil down to our own personal tastes and preferences, not just “buy vintage”. That’s just my opinion though and everyone is entitled to their own. Not trying to upset anyone or start something.
@@ashleyrose1840 I looked up vintage decor, vintage thrift decor, and vintage interior design on YT and what I saw was mostly what looked to me to be antiquey and traditional. Ornate, bevelled metallic and wooden picture frames, florals, fine china, simple crocks and vases, more ornate candle holders, traditional portraits, botanicals and pastoral art. Either way, no I don't think it's cool to call something bad just because you don't personally subscribe to that style (though I don't think traditional style is underrepresented.) I'm not sure who is saying that traditional style is BAD but if they are, it's a bit silly. It's just a different style. It's up to the person to choose what they like. No matter the style it can be done while using the same design principles. :)
There is so much more to traditional and MCM than meets the eye as interior decor and as RU-vid content. There are more RU-vid creators that go for that and many others that are very alternative in their styles as well. Just need to look deeper and away from the ones that have more recognizable channels.
