Yo Dave! I’m a big fan… I find your knowledge and sense of humor entertaining. All that aside, I enjoy repairing and setups. I had a moment when I realized how to really intonate an old 3 saddle Tele. When one might intonate bone saddle acoustic, do the same with compensated saddles by setting one and have the other sharp. Using the appropriate file, file the string slot back to pitch with a good tuner. It works….try it. Thanks Clark PS. I work as a Teamster in SF on movies too. My Certano bender just arrived……

Thermal expansion may explain intonation flux even as the back saddle fasteners and tuners don't move. Expansion/contraction, as a structural engineer, we deal with these issues all the time with concrete, steel and masonry.

What you say about the truss rod's purpose makes a lot of sense to me, I've seen some guitars with a neck so banana-ed that it seems like some people think the truss rod is there for coarse adjustment of the action, I also met one person who thinks that the saddles are supposed to be set so they are at funny angles to the bridge, and not parallel like they're supposed to be, makes you wonder, eh?

It's smart to have a cheap set of Amazon fret dressing files for the infinity squires and Harley bentons. Save your stew mac tools for the good stuff. Also they are good as throw aways tools when doing stainless steel fretwork. You can upcharge the cost of the files to the customer usually.

I just bought a brand new affinity tele that looks exactly like this one. But the new ones have a wider nut now, split shaft tuners, a belly contour and string through bodies. yesterday I took it to my guy who installed fender tex mex pickups and upgraded everything under the control plate including the S1 switching system. He also gave it a complete davelike setup and it plays and sounds freaking great now!

I store my guitars at 50 percent humidity. I never have issue with changes in the neck, intonation, etc. If you live in an environment that the humidity goes up and down, you will see changes like this. It took me a long time to figure this out. The manufacturers are taking short cuts and are not adequately drying the woods for these cheap guitars so they will continue to dry and you get fret sprouting. Storing at 50 percent humidity helps keep the guitar stable.
@mikeflanders1292

Truss rod adjustments are easy. Doesn't make a guitar suck because it needs to be adjusted. I adjust my truss rods several times a year. My area has months of 10% humidity, then over night it can get up to 90% or more. If you're not adjusting your truss rods, all your guitars are going to play like crap

As an acoustic guitar player,I could never get on with electric guitar string gauges. I just used to press down on them with the same force I use for my acoustic 12 gauge strings which would pull them sharp 'cause they're what I refer to as wimp strings.I just can't understand how electric guitarists like say Brian May can switch from electric to acoustic with aplomb and still produce great sounds.....................................

Off topic question, but what is the real difference between acoustic and electric guitar strings?
@timhouston1638
@timhouston1638 2 года назад
The first thing that comes up in google searching your exact question: The difference between acoustic and electric guitar strings is in their materials, string gauge size and number of string windings. Acoustic guitar strings are made of brass and bronze, while electric guitar strings are made of steel and nickel. They are also thicker and have more string wounds.

Just started watching this video, and maybe it's me, but I happen to own one of these. My eye tells me this Telecaster has the same "satin" finished neck that I have. I hate the neck on mine. Not putting a decent finish on it is not only fugly, but it causes the neck to take forever to settle in. The owner better get used to having to use the truss rod... summer and winter. If I had the extra dough I would buy myself a nice tinted/vintage Fender neck, and if the backside is too glossy I'd put some steel wool to it. At least I'd have a neck that's "sealed" and somewhat protected from the elements. Just sayin'.

I don't know what it is, everybody that plays guitar want to just be a rockstar and have somebody else fix their guitar? or are they that stupid? how can you own a guitar be able to play it real well and not be able to adjust the intonation on it or the truss rod or the action? doesn't make sense. I sence a bit of laziness. I mean we're talking about people here that have really good dexterity with their fingers know every note on the fretboard can play really cool licks but don't know how to adjust a guitar. really? I'm a drummer and I learn to set up my own kit and tune my own skins replace my skins, I didn't have anybody do it for me. And now I'm only still learning how to play guitar, but I already know how to completely set it up and do repairs.
