I like to smear a liberal-ish amount of petroleum jelly on the groves on the JB Weld tubes. CA glue too. Seals the tube and makes ‘em a hell of a lot easier to open. Probably old news but it works.

6- 32 is for electrical outlets. I didn't know it was also guitar pick up related. Very Cool. I had to hunt those suckers down for an extension plate. Cool, Lipstick under covers. James Bond 007. I used a chainsaw all day. Finally got it running awesome again. Cheers Dave. Awesome project.

Cool this came up. Used to be super sketched about modifying pickguards. I just made 2 custom tele pickguards, an explorer style custom pickguard, and a control panel/pickguard for a home build flying v type guitar today. This is a good hack to bypass a lot of work and mess if that's what you are going for. Although the gaps in the ends around the pickup would make my ocd go haywire. I'd rather just cut a blank now

Do you think it would be possible to do a Nashville Tele pu’s with telecaster bridge on a hardtail Strat body?

@@jimm8594 absolutely! Youd probably have to fill in the bridge cavity first and reroute it for the tele pu. I would definitely use a blank pickguard as it looks like the volume pot would have to be moved over a bit but its definitely doable.

I worked on a couple TV shows in Portland as an extra and always chatted with the grips when I could. They use TONS of tape! For a producer to ask you that question shows that they're completely clueless.

I've been there, Dave, with my cigar box guitars. Talk about crappy arts, I think you would enjoy making one, or two. There may be little or no money in it, but it's highly satisfying.

From Leo: That is a method I have never tried. I usually get a mounting trim ring for a Telecaster pickup and screw it to the top of the Strat pickguard. The problem with my method is sometimes the chrome ring looks out of place. Good Job Dave!

Glad you got your back straightened out. I know your pain. I have a "Pain Simulator" implanted in my back. Helps some but there are days especially when it's raining my lower back is completely wacked. I need to start drinking again (quit 10 years ago????). My wife would kill me.

From Leo: I modded one like that, it has a great sound. I used old Danelectro pickups, but now there are companies making lipstick tubes that are short enough to fit right in the Strat pickup holes without filing them bigger.

A similar idea is the Lollar ROYAL T NECK pickup. It's a Tele neck pickup that emulates the Stratocaster neck tone. I own one and it sounds great. These are great things to try. Nice vid Dave.

Unfortunately it is the neck pickup. A Telecaster’s twang comes from the bridge pickup.

The reason it is called “Gaffer tape” is because, in British film studios, like Pinewood, in the 1950’s, wide cloth sticky tape was so expensive that only the chief electrician had some, and his slang name was “the gaffer”

Just spitballing here, but did you consider cutting the top and sides of a Strat pup cover and then gluing the remaining “plate” onto the top,of the Tele plastic base. Not sure if that makes sense, but it seems like it would simplify things.

I was wondering why not mustang pickup covers since no pole pieces are coming through. It would be solid black and cover up the whole tele neck pickup without empty holes without poles going through them. I don't know 100% for certain if mustang pickup covers fit through the same sized hole on a strat pickguard. Edit: i didn't watch what you were going for till the end. I guess that pickguard you have fits a tele pickup fine and the strat cover was only for reference. Well, if my previous idea ever helps, use it.

@@DavesWorldofFunStuff that makes sense, because neither do I I guess all of us have a million strat pickup covers though. They just accumulate by the dozens over the years and we never find enough was to use them fast enough while piling up. Lol As for the mustang cover, I think now that i can't name any sites that would offer them off hand. MAYBE stewmac or warmoth or even WD but they probably would charge a lot and whatnot. It's not every day a mustang comes onto the workbench and leaves you with pickup covers. Matter of fact, i believe after all these years, i never even worked on an actual mustang. Lol

I read a lot and have read "tone" gibberish for years. There's something in the the mix that results in Tone for sure. There's also a bunch of bull that fuels "tone" gibberish
