at the end of the day, she made that decision and if she thought it was better for her to get paid more for her hard work, it's really only on her. we are just the audience of her work, we should just respect her decisions

The funny thing is that Lindsay's cynicism is the most genuine version of self-promotion that I could expect from her. If she was constantly beaming, saying all the right PR soundbites, etc I'd actually be worried that she's been replaced or brainwashed! It's more personal when authors are true to themselves.

@@ChinoWantan Got it. I would have guessed First World or Second World since these categorisations can be weird. And I'd wager that it's First World countries who put other countries into these three categories. Is it possible that this has more to do with capitalism? That the demand for English-language books isn't big enough in general in Chile, so it's not profitable to offer them there? (Something not being on offer also leads to lower demand, a lower demand that is very often not questioned and seen as a naturally occurring thing despite it being caused by the lack of that thing being offered. Here in Bern, Switzerland (the whole canton, so you can't just go to another city), you can't take Ancient Greek as an elective anymore for that exact reason.) If you have to order the book from far away, it is likely that you'll get the paperback while people in the US won't be able to get the paperback yet and will therefore have to either wait for the paperback to come out in the US or buy the more expensive hard cover.
