I wanted to jump on and give my thoughts on the Panasonic ZS100 point and shoot camera. I have rather enjoyed using this little beast. It is light enough to take everywhere and powerful enough to take home some great images. Thank you for watching.

Thank you for the review. I just purchased this camera yesterday and will be taking some test shots and video today. I wanted something smaller than my DSLR so I'm hoping his is it. I also bought the grip from Etsy. The newer cameras are so small and so slick that it makes handling them difficult. I wish the manufacturers would listen. Anyway, wish me luck!

The best thing I found about this video was YOU. What a great personality you have. I'll bet you're really fun to be around. Now don't laugh at me---I'm in love with my super old Pany SZ7. I have many Pany cameras and when I'm just going out for my walk and never know what I might see I always grap that little guy and put in my pocket. Super light and easy to use and when those Martians (War of the Worlds) invade I'll have my little SZ7 while all the other people's cameras are at home. Cheers, Neill

A lot of people think they should be able to hold a point and shoot like a full frame camera. I wouldn’t say the grip on it is a no go. You just have to hold a point and shoot like a point and shoot. Usually thumbs supporting the bottom of the body and fingers on top of the body.

The grip is definitely a personal preference. The body on the LX and the ZS are quite smooth and you can’t get a good purchase (for me at least).

It's an impressive little camera. Obviously an DSLR with a larger sensor will have better image quality, but it's finding a balance. If you are not going to carry the DSLR around all the time because it doesn't fit your lifestyle it's useless. This little guy has enough manual features to be creative and make some really nice images.

I used to own a ZS1 which took the clearest, sharpest, macro close ups I ever saw. I made the mistake of disowning it for a Lx7, thinking it would outperform the ZS1 for the close ups of my mini-paintings. I was so wrong, and have repurchased the ZS1, for a reasonable price, and am now considering the Zs100 which showed some amazing close ups. Panasonic Image does do all that stuff but it won’t transfer video, so you have to use a SD card reader (which is a better way to transfer anyway). I wish the lens was sharper, but it’s ok. I wish the auto focus were faster, but I haven’t tried “tracking” focus yet. The stabilizer must work well because I have some really good shots zoomed in all the way. If you can get this for under $300 then that is a GREAT DEAL!

I shoot RAW images in natural, run the image through DXO pure raw or topaz denoiser, then edit to taste in Lightroom. I’m just never happy with any manufacturer’s jpeg processing. Every time I get a different camera I try the jpeg in camera processing and am left unhappy with the results. So I just shoot raw and process them. Thank you for this review. I had a ZS50 and a ZS80 and loved them both. I watched this video thinking about upgrading to the 100. Both of my previous versions ultimately had issues with the zoom lens not retracting and the aperture like lens cover not closing. Have you heard of any issues like this? My ZS80 broke right when the warranty would have expired, had Panasonic not had an extended warrant (3 yrs) promotion when I bought it in Jan of 2022. They fixed it this past February and I just shipped it off to Pana Cust Svc in FL as it happened again. I travel a lot and use my camera constantly. I like the idea of a Leica lens. Would the FZ300 be a better option? I don't want a camera with interchangeable lenses as those sometimes are not allowed into musical venues. Thank you for any insight you could offer.
@NoProJoe
@NoProJoe 11 месяцев назад
The zs100 has a 1” sensor which helps its low light ability and it’s overall image quality. The lens breaking issue I haven’t had. However, I imagine it can happen quite easily with the retractable lens. The fz300 is using a smaller 1-⅔ sensor. I’m sure the quality is fine but in concerts you want all the help you can get in the low light area.

The prices on these cameras have gone up over the last several years. Worth is relative. If' you need a good compact with a great zoom then I would say 300 isn't too bad. It definitely does things a phone camera will not do and the image quality is much better if used correctly. I see the prices hovering around 4 to 5 hundred USD so 320 isn't bad. Just make sure it is in good working condition. Thanks for watching the video.

I'm in doubt whether to buy a new actioncam (GoPro/DJI etc) OR buy a new compactcamera OR a new mobile phone. I've just seen a VIDEO comparison of an IPhone 11 and a Sony(1"sensor) on another channel and the Iphone had a better video quality. Which I totally NOT expected. I like the ruggedness of a compactcamera because a mobile phone is always very volnurable and the video quality that you showed seemed not bad at all. So I think about buying the Panasonic again.
@NoProJoe

These days it's a tough call wether to go cell phone or compact camera. It really depends on your needs. When I was in London a few years ago there was one day I just didn't want to carry my camera (5D MIII). I decided to do a phone photography day. Of course the zoom limitations were the first thing I noticed. When I got back to the room I went through my shots and I liked what I saw until I zoomed in for detail. There was none. They feel apart under editing and cropping. I tend to be an IQ snob I guess. I just wasn't happy with the photos. I have a friend that doesn't own a camera or a computer just an iPhone and he is more than happy with his results so milage may vary. I think the many draw for a camera like a zs100 is the zoom. That is just not possible on an iPhone. That being said for online street photography and landscape shoots an iPhone is more than adequate. Tough choice though. If you don't plan to shoot in RAW on a compact Lumix just use a phone the results will be close. RAW is the great divider. I only shoot in RAW and edit everything. Out of camera jpegs to me are no bueno.

@NoProJoe
@NoProJoe 2 года назад
There were a few factors. Price was a major one. Plus the extra lens reach comes at a cost of overall maximum aperture. I’m sure the zs200 is a fine camera too. I’m currently testing the LX10. So far I like it. We’ll see.

@@mikefa5891 they are very similar. Major differences are the aperture as you mentioned, the lx has no viewfinder, the lx has a flip up instead of a fixed screen, and the lx is only 24-70mm. Dark conditions are a sticking point for most cameras. At least as far as auto focus looking on a target and allowing you to shoot. Manual focus is your friend in the dark. Peaking definitely helps. I shot a skunk in the dark off my porch using the zs100 and it’s built in flash and had good results. Your mileage may vary. I would try a used external flash on your 800D most have a focus assist lamp. Point the flash at the ceiling and fire. It should give you pretty good results. The zs100 is a great compact with really good image quality. It just might not fit your needs.

Apart from the better resolution viewfinder and the 15x v10x optical zoom there is no real reason to choose the 200 over the 100 in my opinion. The 100 actually has a slightly wider minimum aperture which will give you a small advantage in low light.

@NoProJoe
@NoProJoe Год назад
That would be dependent on if its professional video or just for fun. If it's just for fun a late model iPhone does an amazing job with Dolby vision. I am always shocked at the quality out of these phones. For professional concert video a low light stabilized body is the way to go. However, the price for that goes way up. A Sony A7s III is an amazing lowlight camera body with professional results. You're looking at over $4000 for that set-up. I'm sure you'll need at least 3 for a professional shoot. You can shoot really nice video on many model cameras with wide aperture lenses. A Panasonic G9 with a fast lens is a good choice for very nice looking video and it would be half the price of a Sony set-up. You'll still need something to capture good audio so it's not an easy recommendation to make without a lot of context.
