Panasonic makes some great 1 inch sensor cameras. The LX and ZS lines have solid image quality and some pretty premium features. I wish they would take the best of both and create the ultimate pocket camera. However, until then this is my review of the LX10. Thank you for watching.

Thank you for this video especially it is done in 2022. My LX 10 turns 5 years old this year. It is still my portable cinematic beast. I use it w/ ND filters and it is always mounted on my Zhiyun crane M. I will try to experiment with it in the near future w/ a Promist filter for an upcoming return to Japan later this year. Other things I have are a canon s95, 100D, 70D, STM lenses, Dji spark, gopro6 (destroyed), gopro11 and a Lumix zs200 actually. But still the LX 10 is the main go to guy on trips. I have had my time with reaI pocketables like the s95. That was an awesome camera during its time. The idea I had of buying the ZS220, on the other hand, was I maybe able to avoid editing the footages from the 2 Lumix cameras. But I hadnt had the time to really experiment. I am not a pro, just an enthusiast taking videos of my wife & me on trips. Again thank you for this video.

I carry the LX10 around with me. I like that it doesn't need a lens cap and that I can operate it one-handed. I rarely print bigger than 5x7, so the 1" sensor is fine. I have bigger film and digital cameras if I need huge images.

The LX10 has options when it comes to the screen in daylight. In 2023 there are a host of options now that offer the user (sun shades or sun scopes on LCD) now that works well.

Thanks for this video and the ZS 100 review. Do you have a recommendation between the two for a compact camera I can use for travel and general family photos with some video? I mainly started looking at compact cameras to preserve battery and memory on my phone while still having something small enough to pocket. I would like something that I can pull out my pocket and take a photo relatively quickly. These videos have convinced me that either is a good choice.
@NoProJoe

These cameras are very similar. If you need telephoto the zs100 is your choice. If you like to use a viewfinder the zs100 is your choice. If you like shooting using the back screen the lx10 is your choice. If you like an articulating screen the lx10 is your choice. The lx10 has slightly more auto choice but it’s negligible. If you plan to shoot wildlife just get the zs100. If not the lx10 is a good choice. I hope this helps.

This was a great review, very helpful. I will finally buy my first camera after using Pixel for years now. Your recommendation would be very helpful because I am overwhelmed looking at ebay, olx, mpb etc. I just like to take photos and sometimes videos of mountains, valleys, beach, sky, animals, food and basically just anything that looks beautiful. And I've been looking at Sony ZV-1, Canon G7X ii, Panasonic Lumix LZ10, ZS80, ZS100 etc. I really don't know which one to pick. I'd really appreciate your insight. :)

If you would like to shoot wildlife I’d go with the zs100 for the zoom range. If you only plan on shooting wide to low telephoto the lx10 is a better choice. Both are pocketable in cargo’s and jackets. Both have a 1 inch sensor and nice image quality. If you like using a viewfinder the zs100 is the best choice. If you like shooting off the back of the screen the lx10 is the best choice.

Hey Joe, great video, I am getting into photography and am currently trying to find a good beginner camera for around $300-$500. I have enjoyed taking pictures with my phone for years now, but more often than not find myself disappointed with the results I get with it (especially in sunset and low-light photos) and want an upgrade. I like the idea of having an easy to carry, reliable camera to just have around that can take good pictures. I also have to agree with you in preferring a viewfinder when shooting photos. What would you suggest for the price range?
@NoProJoe
@NoProJoe Год назад
That's a good but tough question. There are so many great cameras out there. I would definitely purchase a used camera. Most are like new and much cheaper than a new one. The reason there are so many like new cameras out there is that many people buy a good camera and are unhappy with the photos they get out of it. That is mainly because it takes practice and learning to make a good image. iPhones make snap shot photography very accessible to everyone. They do an amazing job with computational photography. That being said, you can make beautiful images with a purpose based camera. There just needs to be a learning curve applied. Would you like a small pocketable camera or a larger camera. There are pros and cons to both. If you are ok with carrying a larger interchangeable lens camera your options open up with sensor size and focal lengths. A high quality compact will be smaller but more limiting. If being limited in focal length and aperture is ok a compact may be a great choice when moving from a phone camera. Let me know what you want to photograph and the size camera you would be happy to carry with you ALL THE TIME :) and that will help when making a recommendation. 🙂
@miles.k.fisher
@miles.k.fisher Год назад
@@NoProJoe Thanks for responding. I am leaning more towards getting a compact and sacrificing the customizability of a larger camera for being able to carry it around more often. My family has a large and expensive canon that we use for family vacation pictures, but I do remember the camera being a hassle to carry around at times. I am still open to the idea of a larger camera with interchangeable lens though. As for the pictures I like to take, I find myself enjoying taking pictures of landscapes, sunsets, and clouds (I live in a desert so there is not much scenery), more often, but I do think that I might get into taking pictures of smaller things. I am currently working on a pilot's license, and have found that I really enjoy taking photos from the sky, and that they take up of most of my phone's photo album, although the pictures at times are a little too fuzzy for my liking. I don't know if any of this really helps, but maybe it can help narrow some things down.
@NoProJoe
@NoProJoe Год назад
@@miles.k.fisher I'm leaning towards recommending the Panasonic ZS100. It has solid image quality, 24-250mm zoom, some cool features (post focus, 4K photo mode, good macro focusing). For its price it packs a lot of features. Oh and a viewfinder (not a great one but it definitely works fine). If you want a light interchangeable lens camera the Olympus EM10 Mark III can be had for $350ish used with a 14-42mm lens. If you want a compact I definitely would not but one with less than a 1 inch sensor. The bigger the sensor (usually) the better the ISO capabilities. I would also suggest topaz denoiser or DXO pure raw for noise processing. Oh yes, shoot in RAW it will give you more file to work on in post processing. At the end of the day a camera is a very personal choice. Which ever one you choose get to know it and use it all the time. I hope this helps, best of luck :)

Great review, Joe! Just found your channel. That said, looking for a nice compact camera to take pictures of clothing for my store. I’m shooting in a basement and just purchased two Neewer LED 480 lights. Would this camera suffice? Any other options that wouldn’t break the bank? I had a Canon 330 HS, but got rid of it after wanting a 1” sensor and some manual adjustments. Thanks in advance!

Using led lights the option are endless. This camera would be great but you could also find a used canon T3 with a 50mm lens (depending on the room you have to backup) and get some great quality images. The led lights allow you to shape the light the way you want for your final image.

I’m glad you like my content. Thank you 😊. Honestly I’ve never experienced focus issues with this camera it’s fast and accurate. The continuous autofocus in video can be sketchy but that goes for all Panasonic cameras. As far as photography I’ve never had a problem with hunting. As far as one inch sensor cameras go the Panasonics in my opinion are some of the best. They marry price and quality quite well.

It’s a very tough decision. It really depends on your needs. Unfortunately, you can’t have it all in this case. If you like shooting through a view finder or need a telephoto lens the ZS is the choice. If you like a slightly wider aperture, an articulating screen, and a better than average macro the LX is the one for you. I hope this helps.

Thank you for this video. I am in the same boat. I have spent weeks looking over camera specs and have narrowed it down to the LX10 or ZS100. I am looking for something portable to not cary my DSLR and lenses. Leaning to the LX10 for the aperture and tilt screen. I love macro also but the zs100 also has macro feature. Is it not as good? I think I can compromise on the viewfinder, but would miss it. Fast lens is more important. I worry about the short zoom. How is the digital zoom in quality? Or post cropping?
@NoProJoe
@NoProJoe Год назад
@@ozarknismo8827 the lx10 is basically a 24-70mm in full frame terms. It’s a pretty popular focal length. Both do macro well but I prefer the lx10. I’ve not owned an lx100. However, the larger sensor in the lx100 may produce lower noise images. The lx10 has a higher megapixel count but height iso images suffer. I do recommend noise reduction software for both cameras. I think it comes down to size. The lx100 is a bit bigger than the lx10. Lx10 is basically a pocketable camera where the lx100 is not. Honestly, both cameras will produce great images when used appropriately.
