He was bound to burn himself out, and really look himself in the mirror, and realize he’s become what he hated and something his deceased family wouldn’t recognize. The creator seems to not understand how people work, because while yes, we can be unreasonable in the most emotional of times. Once we calm down, or burn out like Kratos we can have some intelligent thought.
And honestly, after killing Zeus, he probably had some time to process everything that happened, Kratos did not have it easy at all in Greece and that was because he made an appeal to Ares, everything else that followed was just result of that one choice he made, a choice he’ll always regret. When you look at it like that and take his upbringing into account, it’s no wonder he was so hesitant to go to war with Odin, war made his life miserable.
But this is fiction. There's no ethos that says all fiction must be conducive to real psychology. Why the urge to humanize him but not Doomguy? He can be made lose the anger but still be temperamental. The new one is scaled back a bit with the restraint of violence to a level that isn't compelling. I think they should change the title to something else if they're going to go the calm and reasonable route.
To be clear, he is not “the creator” of God War he was the director. An important job to be sure, but the game was made by hundreds of people. Marianna Krawczyk was the lead writer in the first game and probably the closest person we can get to being the “creator” of the character.
like the creator said kratos was intentionally meant to be like wolverine always a badass even in old man Logan comics. the problem is new fans, new developers and a certain group of old fans look for kratos to be something like a slice of life hero now like ant man so they can relate to him through their own personal lives instead of the anti hero kratos is supposed to be they ruined it. It’s true that kratos always loved his family that’s not the problem. The problem is they emulated a Disney movie with his games and made him soft like ant man instead of someone like wolverine
@@Foxulaw The first scene of the first God of War is Kratos trying to kill himself because he’s haunted by his past. And he’s angry at the gods in those original games because they repeatedly fucked with him and his family. This isn’t “new developers” this is always who Kratos was. He was a badass then, and he’s still a badass now.
@@demitriuscovington370 yes it is new developers he’s soft they have him doing therapy sessions with characters around him. This whole game is about violence, to make kratos soft and reduce the violence is like reducing the violence in video games series like mortal kombat and Doom, you simply killed the whole core of these games !! This is a game and not a movie, Kratos is now boring and Atreus is trash and the game does not know it's direction, but hey, talking to sony meat riders is the same as talking to the walls, no point
@@user-xx3wf5mr9o they didn’t make him soft. In the original games he was a man committing extreme violence to strike back at gods who took his family from him. Then in the new games he’s a man that will commit extreme violence to protect his new family. He’s literally the same as he always was just older.
He’s the same as the OG GOW riders, that just want kratos to be a vehicle of carnage and violence for the player live vicariously through Which he still is to extent, but what’s wrong with him changing after being given a second chance at happiness, trying to be better than the Gods he suffered under, breaking the cycle of hatred and actually being the father he never had and couldn’t be previously. I for one loved the direction Kratos went and it actually made him an inspiration for proper masculinity. Being disciplined, wise, empathetic, understanding, never looking for war but always ready for it.
What’s I find funnier is that a lot of OG GOW meat-riders are like some of the antagonists of the new series. Trying to convince Kratos that he could never change. And this is coming from someone who also likes the old games.
Because it doesn't feel like God of War. Had they changed the title to something else, that's fine. But under that title, I expect a great deal of the old things and carnage. No holding back like he did with Thor and getting hit a few times. I'm unconvinced by the character arc. The game director lives a family life and just applied that to the game.
Ahh I see another western man who didn’t have his father in his life so you need video games to press X to hug dad interesting but not as much as what we used to have even though kratos always loved his family. He used to be a badass who solved problems in conflict now let’s give him a dress and therapy sessions for development
@@Otterbravery51 because he needs to project his lack of a father figure onto others by pretending to be a hardened badass who just likes murder murder murder.
Can’t believe the creator of the character fell so out of touch with the character itself, and also modern Kratos is simply a more interesting and dynamic character to watch and play as
@@redninja3056 Just tired of the whole the child and adult partner. Seem like a lot of shows and games needed to do it after last of us. Samething with protagonist and their cute little pet thing
can’t believe you think he’s “out of touch” as if a completely different person isn’t in charge of the new kratos. He envisions kratos differently so of course he doesn’t like him. God it’s crazy how you people think you know everything 🤦🏾♂️
@@atomic747 Father son/daughter dynamics are interesting to look at, and tend to be heartwarming. That said oversaturation can ruin anything, even something as wholesome as that.

He went from being a loving father, to a soldier, to a brutal killer, back to a loving father. He went back to who he is. His motivation to destroy all the gods was BECAUSE THEY TRICKED HIM INTO KILLING HIS FAMILY!. jesus christ that guy was so out of touch with what he helped create.
Literally the entire point of the new story is Kratos coming to terms with his past, and the creator actually sounds like one of the Gods who said he can never change. How it went over his head so smooth I’ll never know.
You missing the point David Jaffe said in the end of the day no matter what happens to kratos and the end of the day he will always be this serious guy like wolverine just like how Spiderman at the end of the will always be funny no matter what happens to him.

I understand both sides. On one hand Kratos was supposed to be an over the top recreation of Greek tragedies, so having him become a wise and more overly chill guy feels wrong. It’s the same reason I’m not having as much fun playing as him On the other hand Kratos has grown and should be a tad wiser and “softer”. It just makes sense
Old man Kratos isn’t more chill. He took all that rage inside and became quietly intense. Think of 2018 God of war he didn’t say much or act overly aggressive but you could tell there was still a rage inside him waiting to be unleashed. He’s just old enough now to be able to control it.
While David Jaffe has helped create some entertaining games throughout his career, he has always been a hack when it comes to narrative, and he has consistently been an insufferable douche if you bother to look up interviews of the guy. Old school Kratos is entertaining in a lot of ways, but the old format had run its course by the time Ascension came out. But whatever, let Jaffe throw his tantrum.
“It’s called character progression”. Yea, not all character progression leads to becoming a father figure. The OG clearly wanted his God killer to progress into an even more fearsome God killer.
@justinmcdonald2072 neither do I honestly, I like the dantes inferno style of the first one alot better. It felt more real to a gods revenge and quest for control
Or maybe its y’all who don’t understand. It’s HIS work, so if he says that its supposed to be a certain way, then that’s the end of it. Your opinion doesn’t mean shit, nor does anybody else’s bc it’s not your work, it’s his
I believe kretos is kinda character that even his creators not fully understand him. People said his not a family man never knew him . All his bloodshed in first place because his love for his family and his grief. His a tragic character and because that make new god of war series truly amazing.

I was about to say that he was already a dad and was taking it out on the god's of Greece for being tricked into slaughtering them. He's always been a family man. He's just more mature now and learned from his ways
Honestly, this level of character development makes this story one of the best I've seen. Both versions of Kratos are made infinitely better by the fact that one evolves into the other.
The game could have included his family without becoming a Disney chick flick. Kratos WAS always family man Kratos was always a Dad in the past who was defending. In the first game he saved calliope from disease and murder those in his path to get her medicine. He's not brutally murdering now he's love tapping and can't even jump this oaf can't take down a pantheon. The creator intended for kratos to be like wolverine a bad ass tough guy who was brutal solved conflicts and loved those close to him. But his games now are about therapy sessions pandering to people who didn't have their father in their life so they can Press X to hug dad😂😂😂😂🤣🤦♂️ it's a sorry excuse of a game it's why the state of west is a laughing matter kratos is soft and weak damn shame. @@user-xx3wf5mr9o do you just copy and paste the same thing everywhere- Dude, it's called progression. Kratos isn't softer, he's just no longer senseless. He's stronger than ever, but chooses to restrain himself for the sake of not becoming the bastards and monsters he killed in the past. But the second anything comes to threaten him or those he cares for, he doesn't hesitate to put them down. He wouldn't hesitate to kill Freya if she truly never stopped in her pursuit to end him for revenge of her son. He only held back on Thor because he had the sense to recognize someone else like him who could be an ally. He's not softer, he doesn't hate violence nor is he opposed to it. All he is now is against senseless violence for violence sake. That's a natural progression of a character, and if you can't get over that, you can always just go back and play the old games. No need for you nor the old creator to crap on what we have now like it's some sort of abomination.
@@JDH109 You people don't know the difference between a movie and a game, just like the company you fanboying sony, self-development may work in movies, but not the same with games, because the priority in games is to offer more fun, and Kratos is more soft, meaning less violence, so less hack and slash
