Great list, Farvann. A few of my favs (no order): Burzum - Filsofem Satyricon - The Shadowthrone Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky Agalloch - The Mantle Griseus - Bellum I Taake - Nattestid, Bjoergvin, Doedskvad, Noregs Vaapen, Kong Vinter (massive Taake fan) Mayhem - De Mysterius, Chimera Enslaved - Hordanes Land Dissection - Storm/Bane Dimmu Borgir - Death Cult Armageddon Windir - 1184 cheers
The aspect of Filosofem I don't see talked about too much, is the cover art. This painting is absolutely beautiful, and when you listen to the music, you feel that it really fits. With the album being very atmospheric and ambient-like, such a cover is really fitting and enhances the experience with the album.
Windir-1184 Akitsa- sang Nordique Diabolical masquerade - night work Enslaved-frost Darkthrone- panzerfaust Bethlehem- dictius the necare Anaal nathrakh- passion Drudkh- blood in our wells Emperor- anthems Satyricon- dark medieval times Maybe
@@thesilverikarus thank you. I am actually surprised by the lack of anthems. I underestimated peoples loved nightside eclipse. And of course early to mid era anaal is an acquired taste hahaha
Anaal Nathrakh is my favorite black metal band. Their 2003 EP "When Fire Rains Down From The Sky, Mankind Will Reap As It Has Sown" is one of the best things I've ever heard. Underrated and awesome.
@@thesilverikarus fuck yeah brother they r the shit. I agree that shit is nasty. It's sad most ppl I talk to only know the newer shit. They don't deep dive into how good the early discography is
Always find myself coming back to MGŁA, literally all of their discography is great. Most often listening to Exercises in Futility and Age of Excuse. Their playing style is somewhat similar to Sargeist, and their drumming is phenomenal.
I fully agree. Several worthwhile MGLA clones exist also, check out ILUZJA's self titled EP ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-grOfWvqjIbY.html
@@m3tal4life666 MGLA has no lyrics or album imagery which suggests they are in any way NSBM. I don't know enough of Deathspell Omegas work to comment on them however their vocalist has a 1 man band which has alleged ties to the NSBM scene in Finland.
My top ten in no particular order: Emperor - Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk (my favorite album of all time) Agalloch - The Mantle (my third favorite album) Ulver - Bergtatt Moonsorrow - V Dissection - Storm of the Light’s Bane Drudkh - Blood in Our Wells Ethereal Shroud - Triasagon Panopticon - Autumn Eternal/On Subject of Mortality Saor - Forgotten Paths Wolves in the Throne Room - Celestial Lineage
Im a Norwegian kid just getting into black metal, and this was really good for recommendations, def gonna be checking out more than a few from the comments too. The music intrigued me since i was already an avid listener of breakcore, and regular metal just didnt have the same oomph anymore, i ended up here. Both a horrible and amazing community, i’ll be sticking around.

You scored major points by mentioning Belphegor, sir! That whole mid period, from Lucifer up to Pestapocalypse, is just soooooo awesome. I still count myself luck for seeing them in 2007 at Wacken, before they went all wierd and lost their inspiration or drive or whatever you want to call it.

Awesome to see some love for Groza.. so many people tell me it's their worst release, it's bleak and boring. You don't understand Mgla if you think that...
@@etnoselo4265 my favorite is WHTN, bit of a bridge between the old sound and the newer albums, and it's their most misanthropic album to me.. just absolute perfection! All of your other picks are on point too, 10/10 albums all of them
Weakling's "Dead as Dreams", Urgehal's "Arma Christi", and Impaled Nazarene's "Ugra-Karma". Solid stuff all around on those three, I feel like. Not my all time favorites, but just some solid stuff I've been listening to more than usual recently.

my favorite part of black metal is that is about being a nonconformist and about not paying attention to trends or opinions, then you get people like 8523wsxc trying to tell you that you got to conform and follow the trends and opinions 🤨
@@beepboop204 And the fans... Cretins of the highest decree that not only think that pathetic ridiculous childrens music has something to do with Black Metal but who also struggle with the meaning of the most basic words. Like "literal" and "conformist". Just the lowest form of life.
Don't really listen to black metal that often anymore, but these are the albums i find myself coming back to time and time again. Here goes my two-cents (no hierarchy): Agalloch - Ashes Against the Grain Burzum - Det Som Engang Var (actually i like every Burzum album.. but i gotta pick one) Caladan Brood - Echoes of Battle Darkthrone - Old Star Immortal - Sons of Northern Darkness Lustre - Wonder Nargaroth - Herbstleyd (again a tough pick, i like every album) Nokturnal Mortum - Lunar Poetry Peste Noire - La Sanie des siècles [...] Summoning - Let Mortal Heroes Sing Your Fame (again, might as well have been any other album by them) Woods of Desolation - As the Stars

Cradle of Filth - Dusk and Her Embrace, Vampyre, and Demonic Christ - Punishment for Ignorance are the best Death Metal Albums with Black Metal Aesthetics ever recorded, and nothing else will ever come close. I think Under a Funeral Moon is the best. Transylvanian Hunger has a good sound, but no less than 3 tracks sound nearly identical. The band Destruction was the first band to popularize having 2 songs sound identical, but going beyond 2 songs that are the same is Overkill, and takes the fun out of having a whole album with little variation . There is something worthwhile in playing essentially the same music throughout the same album, but the fact that Transylvanian Hunger essentially went as far to include the same drums with no variation is too drastic. I would have enjoyed the album a lot more if they would have just made the track into a single long repetitive song. I love really long repetitive songs, but I don't like shorter songs that contain the awkward moments of silence between them, it throws off the hypnotic Trance, in which case it's time to embark on a new journey
Something like this. First three Bathory, Beherit - Drawing down the moon, Dissection - Sotlb, Sarcofago - INRI, Tormentor - Anno domini, Impaled Nazarene - Ugra karma, Vinterland - Welcome to my last chapter, Dawn - Slaughtersun

Mgła and Bathuska are from my country Poland and i like them a lot.
