My TOP 100 Sekai Songs [AS OF 3/30/23]

Hiya! This video sort of a test for when I get around to ranking ALL of the songs for the 3rd Anniversary in 6 months. I know it's gonna be longgggg (over half an hour for sure) so I want to know if this format is okay. Please let me know in the comments! I'm most concerned with clip length and the text box commentary.
The songs here ranked by how good the cover is, how fun it is to play, and how much I like the song in general. Since this is a Top 100 out of 192, anything here is at least "good". I personally find a lot of songs are victim to me just liking other songs more so if something seems low to you, that very well might be why. Don't take it personally, these are also a little bit arbitrary.
All gameplay is recorded from my own JP server account on my iPhone 11 Pro. There are a bunch of new Expert charts featured that weren't in the 2nd anni video, showing that I'm getting even better at this game.

5:25 so apparently the reason mafumafu got 2 songs was sega though keitai renwa wasnt dark enough for niigos theme song then he made kuyamu to kaite mirai but they still put keitai renwa in game

If an older song is high up it means it REALLY holds up. RAD DOGS, Jackpot Sad Girl, and Potatoes are great examples of early Sekai commissions that were just such banger songs that age/overexposure (the Fragile cover is an example of the latter) doesn’t wear them down and that they hold up with Sekai’s overall improved quality.

Mafuyu’s solo is literally the worst of them in my opinion. The verses are passable but then the chorus hits and she just sounds *awful*. It’s not pleasant to listen to. USSEEWA and Theater capture her raw emotions so much better. Mafuyu’s Bug alt was my least favorite alt until Kanade’s Phony alt happened (why didn’t MizuEna get alts of Phony??? 😭).

Niccori is somewhere above 120 right now (this is including the addition of Be The MUSIC and Deep Sea Girl- I update my rankings on a tierlist as they're added so making these is easier). It's one place ahead of Adventure Log and one behind Tondemo. Good song, just not a favorite. "Niccori-cori-cori coriander" a is genuinely super catchy line.

I’m a Nene stan that thinks her comms are mostly lackluster. GSG is pretty good, but that’s where it peaks for her. Meanwhile Shiho, Rui, Kanade, and Mafuyu (in that order) are the most consistently great. Also thanks for the feedback!

I see! I honestly do agree that Nene probably has the most underwhelming commissions overall, I wish they’d give her something that has her vibe but is as good as Glory Steady Go. I’ve always been a huge fan of Akito and Kohane’s commission songs, and Tsukasa’s are all at least pretty good even if Tondemo is very overrated. On an unrelated note, Tsukasa and Nene are getting Childish War, so hopefully this is an omen for more male-female duets to come.

It was higher on my 2nd anni list when I was hit by newness bias, but that one Mafuyu line read right before the chorus REALLY needed another take. It’s a weirdly bad part of an otherwise good cover. I’m not sure why they keep letting Mafuyu have less than good moments (Otome Kaibou, her Bug solo alt) when she’s so capable of being among the best (USSEEWA, Aishite solo, her lines in Samsa and Non-breath oblige). I adore Phony as a song overall am and ecstatic that KAFU songs are open to being covered.

I want to make a video of it, featuring some songs by each producer, since some of my choices is probably a bit weird. An example of a weirder choice is Nem for Mizuki instead of anyone in WxS. Seems a little weird, but he has stuff in his catalog suitable for Niigo showing it’s within his range. Another example of this would have been Harumaki Gohan for Kohane (with Aster as an example song) and that’s the unit we ended up getting his comm for- so clearly not all of my stranger choices are baseless. I’ve yet to replace Hitoyama for Tsukasa so that combined with some recent computer problems means said video likely won’t be for awhile. If there’s any specific character you’re curious about I’m willing to answer because of that expected delay.

5:13 for me the sekai version sounds strange to listen to so i just listen to the bandori version cause it has a bit more emotions to it, but maybe thats just me

Meanwhile I’m used to the original Vocaloid version which Ichika seems to repeatedly be good at imitating the vibe of. In a similar vein, seeing someone say the Ghost Rule cover was bad *specifically* because she didn’t growl gave me psychic damage because the original never had a growl. My problem with like 70% of Bandori covers is that they hit a personal uncanny valley of being too different but still similar to the original Vocaloid versions. I know that’s very much so a me thing tho. Six Trillion Years is the only time it’s a vocalist thing rather than an instrumental thing. Yukina’s voice is usually fine (Butterfly on My Right Shoulder is actually one of my favorite Bandori Vocaloid covers) but that one instance it just doesn’t work for me.

It was written by syudou, the same producer that wrote Jackpot Sad Girl. He made a Miku version of it that was uploaded to Sekai’s RU-vid channel so it would count as a Vocaloid song. Odo and Love Ka are two other Ado songs written by VocaP’s that have Vocaloid versions which is how they got in. Ado herself is also a fan of Sekai so she’s stoked about it.
