Another Nikon shooter here who just bought the EOS30 lately. What a lovely camera!

i just dug my elan 7e out of mothballs and was reminded how awesome eye control AF was in its day. it blows my mind that it took canon until the R3 to bring it back.

The EOS 100 ... the only film camera i bought new, somewhere in the early 1990's and it still works like a charm 30yrs later. Once had to do a sort of field repair to the lens though (35-70 zoom), something in the focusing mechanics broke just a frew hours before a multiday mountain hike / mountainering course. A drop of glue did the trick and that repair also still holds ;)

Hi Azriel, I think I'm a little late but I just got an EOS 33 and I discovered that it can be configured to select the focus points with the speed and aperture dial, is done by moving the mode dial to C.Fn, then turning the dial of speeds until it marks C11 on the left side of the screen and finally press the *•CF.n button until the number 2 appears on the right. The only bad thing is that you cannot choose the 7 focus points just with the speed dial, for the two middle points that are above and below you will need to use the aperture dial. I discovered this thanks to the manual and I have confirmed that although I have the EOS 33 it can also be done on the 30V, definitely it is an excellent camera thanks to all its technical characteristics and the enormous variety of customization it has; I am very happy with it and the best of all is that it only cost me 10 dollars!!

They're all great cameras and have their own benefits and drawbacks. My personal favorite is still an EOS 620. It's basic and reliable. I find myself using it more than any other Canon model (when I'm not out shooting with a Nikon F4 or F5, that is).
@donaldjr1969

The 620 was my very first SLR I ever owned and it has a special place in my heart. I bought it new in 1990. Lots of memories with it. It may have been superseded by my EOS-1n but I still use the 620 when I want to travel lighter.

The fact is IN THEIR DAY THEY WERE THE TOP CAMERAS and size was used to say you were a better photographer. Lots of people who shouldn't be commenting are now commenting which distorts history. They're complaining about stuff that shouldn't be complained about such as big cameras and changing brands. Just poor quality commenting
@Gma7788

Yeah and most photographers can't explain anything much. This guy in the video invents problems that never existed back in the day. Photographers waffle on about irrelevant information and don't know how to get to the point. Most photographers have left photography for over 2 decades but you treat us as if we're keeping up with the latest stuff. You've invented all these bizarre new problems. Today's photographers sound like crappy whingers.

Bought a Canon EOS Elan in 1992. It was my first Canon camera and my second one, it replaced a Zenit 11. I enjoyed using this camera, and made a lot of pictures. Unfortunately it was stolen in 2004, and a bit later bought a Canon EOS Rebel Xt to enter digital photography, and later a Canon T2i. The Canon EOS Elan was a solid camera, relatively easy to use (I never used the more advanced settings), and produced beautiful pics. if I had a chance of getting a good used one I may buy it again, just for the sake of old memories.

The most interesting Canon EOS camera I ever got to play with was a Canon EOS RT. It was basically an EOS 630 that was fitted with a pellicle mirror (like Sony used on their DSLT cameras). A friend worked for Canon at the time and bought one through work. I never actually saw them in the shops. It was so much smoother and quieter than his EOS620. The only down side was that as the light was split between the film and viewfinder, you would lose almost a stop of exposure. It was fine for shooting outdoors in sunny Australia though. :)

Nice review Azriel. I have the Rebel G, and it does feel like a toy, but it does work. I use my Elan 7-E a lot and really like that camera. Now I’m patiently waiting for my new Minolta SRT 200 to show up Friday. Have a great week.👍👍

Nice! I used a Eos 500 and then upgraded to the 1v and it's true that the size between this models is noticeable! I even have the HS add-on for the 1v whick gives me 10fps if I want to go through a roll stupidly fast!

I have always like the EOS 1000/f/fn so much in an affordable package. Back in the early 90's people wondered if they would last being of a light build. Time has proven them reliable. I also like their lightness.

Great list of cameras. My favorite is the EOS-3 and the A2E. The main advantages for any EOS camera like you mentioned is the compatibility with current and past EF lenses. I shot a Fujichrome Provia with the 35II and 50/1.2 and the images that came out of those cameras are superb and rival digital in every way. I care about the final results like you do Azriel. Keep those old camera reviews coming.

I bought two A2E about a year ago. The first one had a sticky shutter and the second always looked soft. Bummer, because I really wanted to like it. Shooting with an AE-1P and a T-50 now.

I started with a pair of Yashica Electro GSN Rangefinders; the lenses were good glass at a good price because they were Made in Japan and that was still considered poor quality, but I still have them. Then on to a Canon AE1 Program, great inexpensive but capable SLR. I liked the EOS Elan 7E. The eye control focus was cool once you calibrate it. Went from there to digital via Rebel 2000, but the pictures were low res so I still shot a lot of film. I bought the EOS 50D when it came out and I put the film cameras in the closet. Used it from 2009, a couple months after it was in the stores. Now, 2023 it doesn't take pictures. either the sensor or the card read-out. I found an EOS 80D my wife was thrilled with her new camera! As soon as my parents' estate is probated, I am looking to move up too full frame. I haven't decided whether I want to go mirrorless or get a 5D mk iv. the 5d means I can continue to use my EF glass and lots of 3rd party lenses available, or go with a high-end mirrorless, Fuji GFX100s, EOS R5, Sony A1, Nikon Z9. Any of those means new glass as well. If I go with Canon there is an EF-RF adapter so I could EF and its third party as well as RF. Decisions, decisions.

I have a 7s and it really is the best EOS film camera. The matte finish is slick and the raised lettering on the dials is a little luxury that just feels nice to have. It's super quiet and even the front dial has some kind of dampening that makes it really smooth to use. I set it up for back button autofocus and it feels just like using a 5D. My second favourite is the EOS 50 just because of the style and colour, it's really unique and people have actually stopped me on the street to ask about it! But the viewfinder doesn't have a diopter adjustment which I need for my slight short-sightedness. The underrated gem is the EOS 300X, which when paired with the EF 40mm f/2.8 is almost point-and-shoot sized. It has the 1/4000s shutter speed and d-pad of the 7s in a cut-down body. Without the dials the ergonomics aren't as nice but it's a great camera for when you just want something small and still super versatile.

I had the opportunity to buy an EOS 7 off of Kijiji for a really good price. When I met the seller the camera wasn't working so I popped in some fresh batteries and started playing around with it. We chatted as I was testing it out and the seller caught my enthusiasm for the camera and no longer wanted to sell lol. They paid for the batteries with a couple of extra bucks for my trouble and we parted ways. A couple of weeks later I (somewhat grudgingly) got a Rebel Ti. It pretty much does everything the EOS 7 does but the build quality is nowhere near as good. At least it's enough to suit my needs.

My Elan IIe had some error where if you took a shot most of the time it would shutdown after you pressed the shutter button. I retired the camera and primarily use my Elan 7e however the latch broke I used the latch from the Elan II but it broke. I wound up 3d printing one. so far its still holding up.

Elan IIe is my favorite, but I have some of the Rebels and other Elans as well, I like them all. I recently was given an original Elan and was surprised at how much I liked shooting it. I don't like the Rebels winding the film out like that, for one thing I often get more than 36 exposures using others. They all have good metering from what I can tell and are very easy to use.

Funny, I have been a Nikon user since 1991 my first SLR was a N6006, and two months ago I got a cheap 5D MK2 and thinking about moving to Canon (in digital). I have used at least 10 Nikon film bodies and here is my list: 5. Nikon FM2 (left eye user, sorry) 4. Nikon F70/N70 (the one I used from 1997 till 2006) 3. Nikon F90x (great viewfinder) 2. Nikon F (pure magic) 1. Nikon F4 (dream camera as a teenager, came true in my 40s ;-)) Thank you for your videos 🙏🏻

@@AzrielKnight The rear's door plastic can become sticky with the age. Other than that it is a great and light camera. The matrix metering always nailed exposure, even with slide film. However, at the time I used a lot fill-in flash (in camera or a Metz 32 TTL). Now we are spoiled with shadow recovery :)

I have an EOS300v. I quite like the film loading system because it's quick to load. However I shoot it on manual. I did give the other settings a go, but I found the exposure to be a bit odd. The one thing that stops me using it is the auto-wind on. While this is a cool feature, I know, I just miss that action of winding on. Also I use M42 lenses via an adapter more than the native EF mount. Just because I have better M42 lenses than I do EF.

I loved to shoot with my Samsung ECX 1, but it was too big and I noticed I mostly shoot it at 140mm, so I got a Canon EOS 7 and a Canon 135mm f2.8 SF. It seems less fun and geeky but the photos are great.

EOS 300v - and EOS 90D (my only digital camera). I do have the EOS 300, and I have used it a lot, but the 300v is simply a bit better. The EOS 1N is also in my collection, but my shots didn't turn out as well on it with the same lenses as on the EOS 300. I do intend to put at least one more roll through the EOS 1N once spring comes along though.

1/22/22 For me the issue of the 90s cameras seems to eat up a lot of expensive nonstandard batteries because of all the added features that were added for AF and power advance of the film. The earlier cameras with their mercury button batteries seem to last forever but prior to Af and motor drive. You can see how Canon has converted over a lot of their film camera layout into the digital age along with lots of lenses to choose from.

I own a Canon Elan 30V. It's a funny story about how I got this camera. One day YT channel Pushing film was streaming, or he uploaded a video referring to the Canon EOS system. That night, after I've watched the video I've researched on wiki the whole EOS series that was produced from the 90s to 00s. Soon after, I came across Canon Elan 30V from 2004 on wiki. I was like, what can go wrong? It basically has a modern feature without an LCD screen and shoots 35mm. The very familiar system as I was shooting mainly Canon Mark II. I went on eBay and got an almost mint Canon Elan 30V for just $150. No more looking at expensive 35mm. This is one of my favorite 35mm cameras.

Instead of the 300 (Rebel 2000), I go for the much higher spec Rebel T2 (300x). 1/4000 speed, better flash system, faster AF, much smaller. It might be my favorite EOS, even over the pro ones.

I own, and have kept all of my 1 series cameras by Canon, both digital and film. They all have the three button system on the top on purpose, the idea is that if you're shooting something important you don't accidentally switch to a different mode, or adjust settings and ruin the photograph. The majority of the nonprofessional canon cameras have dials, which also include the 5 series digitals, which were considered until recently, by Canon, as prosumer. However Canon, have now reduced range to beginner, amateur and professional, and lumped the 5D in with the 1 series. If you ever get a chance to try the EOS-1VHS or the EOS-1NRS, they're both big, heavy, and awesome :-) and I wouldn't take a photograph on anything else. :P

started film with canon av1, after 30 rolls i think i got the basics of mf. however EOS seems way smoother especially during travel. I got a eos700, the focus speed and accuracy is okayish, however the Tv mode is bugging me since i used to shoot Av and it don't show aperture reading. my question is if those newer Eos 3 or Eos 1 have more accurate and faster AF compare to older/amerature EOS? Eos 3 and 1v is kinda pricy here, hard to decide.

@@AzrielKnight i'm farsighted, that makes any mf under 35mm kinda hard to me. However i do own a T80, the early gen auto focus is kinda slow and inaccurate in lower light situation. The eos700 do a bit better, and i just pull the trigger on eos 30V. The thing is i live in hong kong, in a city setting everything is kinda close, or a lot of lower light indoor situation. The early AF seems a bit off, that makes my concern. Thanks for the reply and suggestion on 30V anyway!

I shot the EOS 100 for 15€ on ebay in 2021. Now I saw it for 60 € on eBay in 2023. I did everything right. What I miss a bit is the high amount of focus points of my 90D. It is my dream that Canon constructs new film cameras with the focus measuring the latest DSLRs. It is hard to get sharp pictures on point with open aperture with less focus points. If you shift and tilt your camera the wanted focus point is not hit.
