For concert and motorsports film work…im super excited to get one for 130 bucks that comes with a 50mm, the battery grip, and some other gear and i’m pumped!
I got an EOS Elan 7ne basically new in box, barely used at all, for peanuts. It's an amazing camera packed full of features, and shares the lens with my Canon digital camera. I think that since it kind of looks like their more modern counterparts, people don't value them as much
I shoot mostly digital for gigs with a couple of f1.8 lenses. Generally I go for 1000sec shutter speed and shoot wide open, with auto ISO set to 4000 max. So great images man at 400ASA. The only time I now shoot gigs on film is with old 50s cameras. Certainly challenging but ok results even with limited shutter speeds and slow lenses. Leaf shutters certainly help in that regard. I would have preferred more on how you made the shots rather than a camera review but still interesting viewing, and I am not a Canon man, but that’s another story 🙄👍📸
Back in the day, I saved all my pennies for the eos 100, which I loved (although it seems plasticky now). The eos 5 seemed like an eos 100 on steroids, and the idea of the eye control focusing blew my mind. I suspect the stiff dial lock is just an issue with your copy, as the dial on my eos 100 is fine.
Thanks for your video. I just started using the EOS 5 and I think it's great. I first had the Canon EOS 1000F but the Canon 5 is much nicer. I'm already looking around for a second camera for backup. I'm a digital photographer. also with canon so I can change my lenses nicely
Hi Gideon, thanks for this video. Never owned an EOS 5 but have it's predecessor the EOS 10 and it's successor the EOS 3. Seems to be a lot of reluctance to buy these cameras due to their electronics but I've never had a problem. They are a real bargain.
This was my bread and butter camera for many years, before I quit photography. I just noticed that there seems to be a film craze going on - I've been kinda living under a rock, lately. So, just before you uploaded this video, I've checked my EOS 5 to maybe give photography another try. Unfortunately, the mode selector dial lock button is completely locked! It was perfectly fine when I put it away, like, 15 years ago 🤪 I guess, getting it repaired will cost much more than the camera is worth. Maybe I'll sell it for parts. I do feel kinda sad about it, as this camera has served me really well 😶 I do have other cameras, tho.
Don't sell it! Get it fixed! This doesn't sound like a very difficult problem to solve. First try some contact spray and if that doesn't work try googling some solutions!
@@theothertonydutch Shops are terribly expensive, here. Okay, I'll try to fix it myself. But I suppose there's something broken and I guess I'll need a spare part. Well, we'll see. Thanks!
Nope, no, never 🤪 I took it apart and there's a spring under the button and a tiny bb that makes the dial click in place. Both spring and BB are not where they are supposed to be. To fix this, I would first need to remove a disk that's attached to the selector dial. Why for Pete's sake has Canon not used screws to attach the disk to the dial? Both parts are held together by two plastic pins that I would have to cut! This bit of the EOS 5 is not really repairable, only replaceable. Surely I could improvise, but I certainly don't have the appropriate tools.
I had a different experience when I owned mine. Maybe it was simply a bad one, but the whole thing was flimsy and poorly built. The lens mount was so loose it actually rattled! The command dial (unlike yours) wouldn't lock so simply grazing it changed the functions, but the worst thing by far was that if it didn't have brand new batteries in it would refuse to function at all. And to think, I traded in a Nikon F4s for it - what a pillock!
I think the problem with Canon EF cameras like the 5 is that EF lenses have stayed relatively expensive. You don't have the cheap manual lens back catalogue that you do with Pentax K mount for example, or even Nikon F and OM.
What are you talking about? Sigma, Tokina, Tamron, etc. all offer great alternatives and with an M42 adapter you can put like a billions lenses on there.
I have 3 very cheap, very simple, adapters that I can use on my EOS Film and EOS Digital cameras. One for M42, one for Pentax PK, and one for Nikon F. You can also get one for Olympus if you like. All of them work great and allow you to use a HUGE range of old Manual focus lenses.
Just to be clear, I'm looking at getting back into photography. The prices of secondhand gear(not gonna buy new) are putting me off e.g. a 50mm f1.4 Canons EF about €225, Pentax FA about €125. seems the same for a lot of focal lengths id like. I had a 6d a few years ago, had to let it go in 2015.
