I was in line for 2 hours to get tickets to the LA Forum concert in 1972. When I got to the counter the Forum had just sold out. BUT they still had tickets for the Santa Monica Civic concert. Being 16 and needing parents to drive me and my friends, I PASSED on buying tickets. WTF I’m an IDIOT!!! But I did NOT know where Santa Monica was and if we could get a ride there. I had NO idea it was just a few miles away from the Forum. I saw Queen in Santa Monica in 1975. The place is so small that there are NO bad seats, as all the seats are much closer to the stage than at the huge Forum. But I WAS at the LA Forum that night in 1975 ~ BEST concert I ever saw ~ even though they made us wait like 40 minutes before they came on stage. I had NO idea that they filmed that night’s concert and was completely SHOCKED when they released it. From where I was sitting, the Stones were about a half-inch tall. I got to see them much closer in ’78 and ’81. That 75 concert only ranks 5th for me recording wise, because they play 4 songs I do not care for: Beg, Move and the 2 Billy tunes. My favs: 5 LA Forum 75 4 Some Girls Texas 78 3 Ladies And Gentlemen 72 2 Get Your Ya Ya’s Out 69 1 Brussels Affair 73

@@HangFireStonesPodcast Yes, and him riding what looked like a giant cock. I do not recall the shoe incident at Anaheim Stadium in '78. Perhaps that was a different day. I also did not see Prince booed off the stage in '81. I got there after that happened.

I lucked out, the tickets said The London Green-Shoed Cowboys on them. The venue sold out while I was still in line, only 2850 seats, but a girl gave me one of her extras for $40, the week before the show I could have gotten eight or nine hundred dollars for it. The audience grooved during Peter Tosh's set but second act Doug Kershaw Band was brutally booed offstage before finishing their third song. I felt bad for Doug, when he brought his fiddle onstage to sit in on Faraway Eyes he missed his cue and had to endure Jagger telling him, "Doug, this is the part where you play." Ft Worth is known as Cowtown to the locals but Doug Kershaw saw a lot of bull there that night.

The bootleg I want released most is Wembly Stadium 1973. We have some tracks in soundboard quality on available bootlegs, but Mick Taylor's performance on You Can't Always Get What You Want on the audience recording of that show needs to be released in soundboard! The version of YCAGWYW from the Brussels bootleg I first got has this wonderful moment when MT played a section of the Winter solo and Jagger picked up on it (well, well, well..). Pity it didn't make the official/GHS reissue release. I kind of love No Security too. Band sounded so good that tour. I love that white Tele. Really enjoying this channel. Thank you :)

All these recordings are fantastic. Brussels Affair ' s version of brown sugar has a honking bariton sax in its outro. Omg it rocks. The texas show is pun; mick barely blinks and is high as a kite. At one point he grabs ronnie's balls. Beast of burden is superb and the fine art of weaving is there. " charlie's good tonite innee?" - get out yer ...Again iconic and suberb. I love Still Life too. Love you Live has the fantastic extended show starter HTW. Have air guitared to that riff many a late night. Great videos - re-instilling my love and affection for these unique bucaneers. Well done

Awesome video regarding Live stuff..... I typically now listen to most of my music on Pandora - yes I used to buy CD's but I just cannot anymore... I did ask for Hackney Diamonds for Christmas :) One of my favorites LIVE is Out of Control - I just watched a live video from 1997 tour which was the first concert tour for me so it has special meaning... Song is just full of everything - dark slow, then building to louder, has horns, has harmonica, has crowd singing... I am going Solder Field Chicago 06/27/2024 - taking my 18 YO daughter! I hope it is played but doubtful....

Totally agree that the legacy releases were totally flawed. I honestly never got Ya Ya's. I hear so much about how it is one of the best live albums of all time but I never felt it. BRUSSELS AFFAIR!! YES!! I have all their vaults on vinyl including this which was a part of the Goats Head Soup reissue. El Mocambo is a good choice. I need to listen to it more. I've only listened maybe 3 times since I got it on vinyl. Some Girls live In Texas!! Omg. When I saw you were doing this podcast episode I was like "no way he picks Some Girls Live in Texas." Wow. I'm blown away you picked that. Definitely one of my top 5 and of course I own it on vinyl. Stripped is another great choice. Great to hear them do all those songs acoustic and they killed it I would probably put Muddy Waters and The Rolling Stones at the Checkerboard Lounge in there. Absolutely amazing to hear them together in a club like that. And if you've seen the dvd. To see the interaction and how it all transpired is amazing. Sticky Fingers live at the Fonda is another great live album.

I agree. There is some great stuff on Ya Yas on there but the song choices are not my favorite. Carol, Love In Vain, Little Queenie, Midnight Rambler....If those had been replaced by Satisfaction, Gimme Shelter or some other iconic track I might feel differently. In it's defense, Sympathy for the Devil and Stray Cat Blues are much improved from the studio versions.

Justin, what do you think of the box set of Live in Atlantic City, NJ 1989? It's got Undercover of the Night. I think the production is excellent on this recording. The rhythm guitar on the right side sounds James Brown (ish - who was his rhythm player?) the way Keith economically slashes. Steel Wheels is a sleeper recording with a few video hits (?) if I remember correctly. But the recording of this show brings 5 of these songs to life. It comes with a 3rd CD with Almost Hear You Sigh (Wembley), which is one of my favorite Rolling Stones songs. It's so friggin' soulful. Am I off base? Can you analyze that song sometime?

Love You Live is my #1 as this was the first Stones live, I indulged. I like that it showcased the '70s Stones albums that I first got into such as GHS, Made in the Shade, B&B and IORR, in that order, as well as vintage stuff. It blew me away. Stones became my hardcore #1 band, as I then bought up the entire back catalogue. By the time SG came out I was right up to date. #2 Some Girls Live Texas #3 El Mocambo '77. #4 L.A. 75 #5. Ya Ya's. Honorable mention, the recently GRRR Live. The show I would really like to see officially released is "Blind Date" Oshawa Civic Arena 1979, which was a pair of back-to-back stripped-down Some Girls shows with Ron & Keith's New Barbarians opening, in cozy 5,000 seat Jr hockey rink. @@HangFireStonesPodcast Interesting. When I got into the Stones in my teens some forty years ago, one of course HAD to buy "Still Life". But what a disappointment! Cheaply crafted cover (the inner gatefold, Jeez!!!), murky production, weak versions of the oldies, just "Imagination" sounded stronger, more relaxed than the album version - a cover. They released a single from that album, "Going to a Go-Go", probably the worst cut. The best was the Lips 'n' Tongue sticker, immediately put it on my small motorbike's tank. Maybe "Hampton" does better... (there is an Hampton excerpt on "Still Life" when Jagger greets the audience).

The so called sloppiness in the vocals never bothered me. In fact it sounds better to me now. A drawled out version of a Jamaican/West Indies vocalist. Works for me

I like your talks very much but your story telling needs more videos and pictures and musical excerpts, esp for newbees to the stones your face alone is boring. PS the absolute hard rocking best is SIDE 4 OF LOVE YOU LIVE!

Thanks for the note! Unfortunately I need to work within the rules of RU-vid which are great stricter and stricter constantly. The use of music and videos comes with a great risk of copyright strikes which would jeopardize my channel. Maybe this will change in the future but for now, will need to stay "conservative" to keep my channel safe.
